California tried to raise the minimum wage and it forced a lot of businesses to go out of business due to not having enough money to pay employees or it forced them to let go of two to three workers to make up the increase in wage for one employee. This happened in the fast food industry and because they laid off more people to make up the salary range for one employee the service went from having ten people to work at a fast food restaurant to just one.

I don't make that much and I own the business. $15 an hour is probably nothing in NYC, but out in rural America, $15 is beyond the capability of many established businesses to pay workers and remain solvent.
