Mine (after looking at it very intently) has something that could be a crack in the making or just a bit more of texture. Can´t see trough to the metal, though.
I have not experienced, but have heard of the splitting on this pen. I do like mine. Lately I've been carrying it in my shirt and using it instead of my beloved Lamy 2000.
WaskiSquirrel , I too carry mine in my shirt pocket. I modified the clip to make it inserting and retrieving my pen a whole easier. I have photos of it that I can send via email. My address is richardhan56@gmail.com if you like to make contact .
Just had a closer look at the inside of the cap and good news: if I am not completely mistaken, it will not even matter if the cap cracks up to its end, because the whole snapping mechanism seems to rely on the inner metal cap only, + deep inside there is a cap liner. So should it happen, it would only be cosmetic (and you have to be really WANTING to see it).
Yes, it is just cosmetic; the cap doesn't become loose or anything. but I wished it didn't happen because it really is a nice. And the texture of the cap makes it almost invisible.
Like waski, I have not had any splitting issues, and I have used this for about 4 weeks now EDC. Though I have so say mine writes best when I use a really wet ink.
It is said, "Plagiarism is the sincerest form of flattery", & whilst this Chinese company have pointedly copied the Lamy 2000 in many elements, the quality is clearly nowhere near that of the German manufacturer. In truth, I was expecting a more positive review of this pen, but there are too many flawed design characteristics to make that so. Whilst I appreciate the cap clip design, the fact that it takes considerable pressure to lever it open (on what is really, a blunt blade edge); also, the copied 'ears' that secure the cap to the barrel - the scratches, & of course, the horrendous split in the cap; it is regrettably not a pen I would seek out - & it's not necessarily the inexpensive aspect that disappoints, but obviously the craftsmanship is not sufficient in reflecting an overall desire in wishing to purchase same. The only saving grace seems to be the nib itself, which I can see to be more than adequate for the task in hand. A great shame really - the potential for this scribe is enormous, but those errors in design & quality control, relegate this writing instrument to the bottom of the pile - at least for me. Once again, thank you for such an honest overview of this pen :)

It is sad for such a nice pen!
It is, though have not lost hope it will not develop into a full crack.

Thanks! Yes, besides thia problem with the material it writes really well - wet, no hard starts or skiping.

True! And this is not just a problem with my pen. Other users reported the same problem!
