- October 31, 2021 marked the annual Jigging Jerks Blackfish Subscriber Trip. Joining John Skinner, myself and Doc were the contest winners, Charles and Annette.
The weather turned out to be brutally bad but we had a very small window in the morning and Annette hooked into a huge tog, approximately 11 pounds, that was then safely released. Congratulations to Annette!!!

Catch of a lifetime, way to go Annette! To bad it was choppy and windy. It’s amazing you were fishing with 1 ounce rigs. I was just out on the Celtic Quest we were using 10
Oz in 50 ft and 14 oz in 80 to 120 ft. Trying my luck in 20 ft today. Congrats to the winners hope they got some instruction time with all the pros.
Follow up: East Marion LI Sound 21 ft. Water, 1oz J Skinner Rig = 30 Blackfish all under 16” (2 large porgies for dinner)

Definitely was a great time. And I'm still amazed to have witnessed that catch!
Awesome catch! I fished the jetty same day in the morning. I caught a 21 1/2 inch 7 3/4 lbs. Limited out in 2hrs until the tide started moving to fast. Great Blackfish season so far.
Nice! Agree on the season so far. My charter yesterday had a 8.25 and a 10 plus (both released) and 50ish keepers in 5ish hours of fishing

Hahaha - rumor has it Doc doesn’t always get those steak dinners lol - thanks for the kind words. I know in your case, we had great anglers (and Jimmy) on board :)

Awesome fish, congratulations Annette-- talk about a way to get hooked on togging :) RE: Skinner stepping into "the spot" though... I've seen you guys joke on your videos about the rear corner being the best spot because it's downstream of any chum, but the more time I spend togging the more I think there really is something to this.

Good deal on releasing that huge blackfish. It was hard to tell. Was it a female?
I think it was. Honestly, since I knew we were releasing the fish, I didn’t pay too much attention to the gender
@@jiggingjerks That was clearly a male. The coloring of the body, chin, and shape of head all point to a male.
@@ick5353@jiggin jerks What? No that was 100% a female, lots of stripes and splotching. A DD male will be almost solid grey in color with a white belly and bog chin. Also 25" male would probably be 8-9lbs, a 12 lb male would be 26.5-27".
@@jamesdiotte yup, I stand corrected. I brightened up the screen on my phone and see the coloration better.
@@ick5353 yea it's crazy how much heavier the females are too. The males are usually long and skinny with ginormous heads. You see a big male and thinks it's a dd and then... 8 lbs
