I will thumbs up anything John Wayne. I didn't know Bob Hope entertained the troops in 1776. This show makes me laugh and cry. Most of the stars are gone now, but with videos like this, they will always be with us.

What is sad to see is that most of these Patriots of the USA are now gone. John Wayne and I would have gotten along greatly for I too am a Conservative Right-winger and I am a Patriot and I love my Country. I was raised as a Patriot in school. That is what we did, sang songs, learned where we came from, did plays, celebrated our Patriotic Holidays, said the Pledge of Allegiance everyday, prayed to God and sang America the Beautiful (Never knew why we didn't sing our National Anthem). I still feel America the Beautiful should be our National Anthem. I want that Patriotic feel that I had as a young lady. I would love what I just saw tonight, with today's high profile performers to do the same as John Wayne. Do any of them out there feel the same way he did and how I feel? God Bless America. My Home and Proud of it.

Most are gone, and I wonder what the "Duke" would say? Sadly seeing this country and her people, still traveling down the WRONG road!! I think he'd be just as disappointed as I am!! I often wonder why I served my country, when people throw away the very freedoms that have been paid for in BLOOD!!

Keep guns out of schools. Equal rights regardless of sex, sexual orientation, or race. They wouldn’t relate to these long gone entertainers, especially Bob Hope’s off color jokes about women, Chrysler, and Bing Crosby; and Jack Benny with the silver dollar and running into George Burns; Dean Martin’s womanizing. These people aren’t familiar to children today.

This is awesome and everyone should see it. Also, I have my own tiny history tidbit to go with the segment on uniting East and West with the trains. The team who laid the most track in a single day was a team of 12 Irishmen working from the East to the West. They laid something like 5 miles (I keep remembering ten, but that seems like too much) in a single day, and the iron rails were so heavy that with all 12 of them lifting at once each man still had to lift over 100 pounds to carry it. And they way they would grab the rails is that there would be 6 men to a side, and the first 2 would grab the end of the rail from the wagon with their tongs and take off running. Then, as the rail slid out of the wagon, each of the other 4 pairs would grab on and start running, too. All day, they'd run one rail after another from the wagon down to where it went on the track, put it down in place, then run back to grab another. Can you imagine dragging 12,000 lbs? Two guys did it, from a dead stop.
When we learned about these 12 Irishmen, my sister and I were no longer surprised as to why our dad and grandpa are so strong.
