I will thumbs up anything John Wayne. I didn't know Bob Hope entertained the troops in 1776. This show makes me laugh and cry. Most of the stars are gone now, but with videos like this, they will always be with us.
What a cast, these were the days my friends.
I think it would be time for all Americans to watch this show again.
Been looking for this for YEARS....I remember this as a kid
Wow! Talk about an all-star cast, this is the starriest.
The John Wayne special Swing Out Sweet Land enjoyed every minute of it thank you for this movie thank you.
I remember seeing this as a teenager. It is without a doubt, one of the greatest shows I have ever seen. I love America ! And appreciate all that our forefathers did for us.
Why could there not have been fore-MOTHERS???? Oh, that's right. All women back in those days were seen just as baby-makers who cooked and took care of the house for the FOREFATHERS' benefit. SMH.
@@pinedelgado4743 Madam, your argument is that the mention of one precludes the other. Instead suggest some one whose contribution merits the distinction of foremother!
one of the greatest tv events ever
What is sad to see is that most of these Patriots of the USA are now gone. John Wayne and I would have gotten along greatly for I too am a Conservative Right-winger and I am a Patriot and I love my Country. I was raised as a Patriot in school. That is what we did, sang songs, learned where we came from, did plays, celebrated our Patriotic Holidays, said the Pledge of Allegiance everyday, prayed to God and sang America the Beautiful (Never knew why we didn't sing our National Anthem). I still feel America the Beautiful should be our National Anthem. I want that Patriotic feel that I had as a young lady. I would love what I just saw tonight, with today's high profile performers to do the same as John Wayne. Do any of them out there feel the same way he did and how I feel? God Bless America. My Home and Proud of it.
They may be gone but they left a good mark to follow the trail by.
I started to like western cowboy movies coz of John Wayne acting, he is wonderful and legend in acting
Good man
You couldn't get so many talented stars together today for special, like this today because of to many EGOS, and not a enough Respect unlike yesterday,s Stars.
Absolutely wonderful that's entertainment with a healthy side of education. I wish I could get my kids to watch it.
When stars were stars and people too they were treasures
John Wayne was a true American Patriot who honored God, family, hard work, and loved his country with a passion you rarely see in Hollywood today.
Ok ask me this why didn't he fight for his country during World War II I like to see you get out of that one
@@davidmorris6443 How about YOU explain how not serving makes him (or anyone) less of a patriot? One has nothing to do with the other... Lots of non-military folks are patriots who love our country... And you are either a troll or a moron, likely both
george morris, I won't ask you but I'll tell you. John Wayne was 34 years old and considered too old for service. He also had a family,

I'll tell you. JW was 34 12/7/1941 & considered too old for service. He also had a family that classified him 3A. Now, put that in your pipe and smoke it. 😁
Here ya go folks --47 years ago Hollywood and most celebrities cared about promoting a great reason to be proud of the great united states of the Americas.
Wow,i almost forgot what it was like when we were able to watch and listen to people in public praise God for all that He gave to us.Too bad for us all today for all the unjust laws against the one true and most high God! i`m still praying for forgiveness and for all our leaders, that some day they will put things back in order and for one nation under their God! That was a covenant and now it has been broken....
Fuck you.
John Wayne has been our guide all the way through this presentation they could have not picked a better man then the Duke god bless him
The night after 9 11 the show was playing free on cable station's
This sis what needs to be shown in all schools.. as curriculum and scratch the crt crap
This brings back happy memories. "Swing Out Sweet Land" was broadcast before home video recorders existed. I recorded the audio portion of the show but really had no way to record the video portion when the show was originally broadcast in 1970. It is great to see this show again with the marvelous entertainers who were in the cast.
Unbelievable!
Wayne was on a roll with this and his 'America, Why I Love Her' LP. Only in the '70's. :)
what a cast! sadly, most no longer with us today
I first watched this in 1970 when it was new, I was 9 years old. It may seem a bit silly and outdated, but I still like it.
Me too.
I was 9, also. And I really loved it.
What a cast....
Loved the Bob Hope bit ;)
Oh, Susannah was fun.
Oh my darling, Clementine. Come back anytime, Stranger.
Wow so many stars real stars not like most of today's supposed actors
TRIPLE THUMBS UP!!
so many of these fine performers are now gone, from Johnny Cash, to John Wayne, and Glen Campbell to Bob Hope. I guess I am just old enough to remember them all, and say I have been priviliged to listen to, and enjoy every one! I had not see Red Skelton in many years, but used to watch his show every time with my Mom, and Grandma, and Grandpa!
Watching this from Bakewell, in Derbyshire, England. Love John Wayne and all his many talented co-stars. Brilliant.
Whatever became of Leslie Uggams, I had forgotten her. She was a great talent.
Well John, I was born in 1969 and at 48 I am pushing the big "50"... My country has gone to hell and have no idea where my generation went wrong.
The Duke made very few t.v. appearances but the ones he did make where darn good. Not like the garbage we have to put up with today. I remember watching this in 70 when it was 1st broadcasted. It was good then and it is still good now. You and the whole cast did good work Duke.
this brings a tear to my eye. being a millennial ( i was born in 1996) we don't have great people like this. god bless john wayne and all the wonderful stars in this program
No kidding. Was born in the wrong period.
I too was born in 1996.
We need to have this love for our country again - look at us !
Shame we can't All be together Shouldn't be about black lives or white lives it should be about human lives around the world and particularly in America ❤️💙❤️💙

For people like this - God be praised.
This is a great show, from a great American! The "Duke" and all of the other actors/actresses/singers/and comedians, brought back a lot of memories. Most are gone, and I wonder what the "Duke" would say? Sadly seeing this country and her people, still traveling down the WRONG road!! I think he'd be just as disappointed as I am!! I often wonder why I served my country, when people throw away the very freedoms that have been paid for in BLOOD!!
K. Jones
Thank you sooooooooo much for posting this ..wonderful !!!
I think old people would enjoy this.
altho a nbit schmaltzy all citizens SHOULD enjoy this.
4th of July, 50 years later, still worth seeing.
*Tracy Taylor* thank you for preserving this Classic (Class emphasized).
More people should watch this show, and they may learn something from it and ALL of the people who made this move.
The show is gonna be interesting I served ìñ tĥe military for over twenty years & never regretted it
Its pretty elementary level history not very accurate. Sad education is so bad ppl think this is good info
I remember watching this when it first aired, and the one thing that always stayed in my mind was Jack Benny in the George Washington segment. Great stuff, great television.
Me I've watched westens all my life......JWayne got my attention....this is great....funny
Wow, just finished the show. All I can say is WOW!! What a treasure, can't believe this is 44 years old and I am seeing it for the first time. 44 years of wasted time. WOW!!
I don't understand how anyone could not like this. John Wayne, lots of his friends, and the special ial guest, America.
God bless John Wayne xxx
What a massive amount of stars !👍👍
Thank you for the great movie
IDK how I never saw this one. Great movie.
I've never seen this before- Love it! Thx
How great it would be to rebroadcast this movie to remind us what a great country we live in..
ONE NATION UNDER GOD WITH LIFE AND LIBERTY FOR ALL!
One of the best shows ever. We are not a perfect nation but no people have ever done more for others then the American people. Shows like this make me so proud to say America I love you.
This is a program that everyone should see.
God Bless America ~ great show standing the test of time 43 years later.
This was a great show, we need more like these less Kardashians. John Wayne was and still is the best..perfect for showing in a US History class.
Amazing,,, this show was very prophetic,,, John Wayne saw even in 1970 how the liberal attitudes were ruining the country. This show should be rebroadcast during all holidays here in the USA,,, maybe our kids will get their ears and their hearts tickled enough to work harder and avoid bad behavior! Pray that people come to their senses!
And yet he had liberal Tommy Smothers on the show, right after the Smothers Brothers had been canceled, to read a piece on the value of dissent. Wayne understood then what today's conservatives do anything to avoid.
Liberal attitudes and notions like equal pay for equal work despite sex or judge people by character and not race. or notions like the golden rule judge not least the be judged. Keep guns out of schools. Equal rights regardless of sex, sexual orientation, or race. You know your right its the fact that some like you still do not accept these basic liberal ideas that causes problems in this country.
We badly need something like this now.
Why is this not shown in elementary schools across this nation?
Todays house and senate should HAVE to watch this one day a week at least,, maybe they will come to their senses!!!
Great!!! I love to see my great love Michael Landon with his big brother Dan, and both with the great John Wayne in your video, with do great quality!! Thanks a lot!!!
This is beautiful. It makes me sad that we'll never see anything like this from Hollywood again and that these principles are despised in our country now. Every Democrat should be made to watch this.
Made to watch it on REPEAT, 24/7 for a whole month
The Duke would be in disbelief at how disrespectful people are today, Memorial Day 2018. God Bless America.
John Wayne God Bless America
Wow! Talk about a whole lot of big stars!
I love John Wayne he was a great American. I miss him. :(
I stand by his talent, but lost respect for him when I found out he was involved in The House Un-American Activities Committee, helping to destroy the careers and lives of innocent Americans. That’s not being a great American.
You did a poor job of researching then. John Wayne had nothing to do with the blacklilst. He was a staunch anti-communist but never pushed for any actors to have their careers destroyed. That was done by the studio heads. Stop pushing the propaganda about Wayne.
Unexpectedly I found this to be very entertaining and enjoyable, recommended
Everyone should watch this they will learn how this America came together.
Legends ..❤
this is a good show to watch
Thanks for posting this was when a 'variety' show was a variety show.
Where has America??? Keep Praying Stay Strong!!! Praise The LORD!!!
Thank You Jesus!!!
GONE!!!

Archie Bunker mentions this show in the Season 1 episode "Writing the President" when he and Mike were arguing about John Wayne!
Like so many people JOHN WAYNE was and still is my hero and role model James Denney
It's such a different time.
What a treasure. So glad someone turned me on to this. Have shared this to quite a few people.
I love that William shatner apeard in it.❤😂 What a suprise that was for me, when i fist saw it.
every young person should see this in school and then talk about it.
While I loved this show when I was a child, it’s too dated for children of today. They wouldn’t relate to these long gone entertainers, especially Bob Hope’s off color jokes about women, Chrysler, and Bing Crosby; and Jack Benny with the silver dollar and running into George Burns; Dean Martin’s womanizing. These people aren’t familiar to children today.
@@rebeccapieszala932 that sucks. I am 13 and I wish I was shown this
great man and well spoken
Look how far America has fallen 😢
Legends of the heart freedom and soul good sense of humour and smile and laughter in god we trust oh my goddess
Most of them are all gone sadly
Fabulous still in 2016!
Ally Raymond still fabulous in 2018!
I sure do miss all of those great stars 🌟 !!!!
great great show
This 1970 picture was the first time that John Wayne, Bing Crosby and Bob Hope were together in a movie. The second time would be in 1972 in Cancel My Reservation. God bless them for all the joy they gave us and still do.
I love Hoss!!
He stayed at my Grandma's boarding house in New Hampton, while being stuck in a snow storm passing through and all the hotels were full! We now own the house! Dan Blocker! Crazy. ;)
M Mai How sweet.....maybe his spirit will pop in sometime..let me know...
Love This & Really All Of These Actors!!!
the way it should be !!!!!
This is awesome and everyone should see it. Also, I have my own tiny history tidbit to go with the segment on uniting East and West with the trains. The team who laid the most track in a single day was a team of 12 Irishmen working from the East to the West. They laid something like 5 miles (I keep remembering ten, but that seems like too much) in a single day, and the iron rails were so heavy that with all 12 of them lifting at once each man still had to lift over 100 pounds to carry it. And they way they would grab the rails is that there would be 6 men to a side, and the first 2 would grab the end of the rail from the wagon with their tongs and take off running. Then, as the rail slid out of the wagon, each of the other 4 pairs would grab on and start running, too. All day, they'd run one rail after another from the wagon down to where it went on the track, put it down in place, then run back to grab another. Can you imagine dragging 12,000 lbs? Two guys did it, from a dead stop.
When we learned about these 12 Irishmen, my sister and I were no longer surprised as to why our dad and grandpa are so strong.
Amazing 👍👍👍👍👍
I watch this great film and think the TV NBC Network should show this again and see how we love America then and now
US Marine
Dang!! We neeeeeeeed John Wayne!! NOW!!
We need to bring him back for an encore!
You do!
President Donald John Trump is the 21st Century John Duke Wayne.
A great deal left out of course, more's the pity, but still inspiring despite it all.
Couldn't do this today RIP Michael Landon Dan Blocker and Loren Green and John Wayne and the others
Dyed and the wool historian that I am, and patriot, I highly recommend this video. It,s long, but really well worth watching.
I was "glud" (sp) to yhe screen. It,s fantastic............................!

Loved it!! Was so good to see so many favorite people I loved watching, listening to, n hearing 💕 thanks for sharing 👍
This film is a hoot & a learning experience. I pray that some of you will down load this to show your grand babies a different expression of
I only found this a few years ago. But I watch it every July 4th now.
Duke you are right, I always said God Bless America except I recently added the righteous America 🇺🇸.
An excellent Special that was really very Special. Missed out though on one important part of our history - the Indian Wars
Just watched this again and enjoyed it so much. Thank you, HossGal1, for posting this for us. Really appreciate it.
