I’m glad you’re very respectful of the fact that the pregnancy and birth was something that you two shared with the surrogate and therefore there are some things you can’t discuss to protect the privacy of the surrogate. For example the details of the birth, I’m glad you just mentioned that you found out the surrogate was in labor and didn’t say anything about the medical aspect.

If he were straight he would say his Wife, but she’s not and she has no romantic connection and offered her body for a baby, consensually. There are certain requirements for a surrogate first she should be already married with a child of her own ( really a must to have a child of her own).

Robert is a great choice for a boys name - he can be Robbie when he’s little, then he has a lot of options for what he wants to be called when he’s a bit older. My Robbie tried Bob briefly, but seems to be going with Rob. 🙂

My husband, Tom, and I have been together for over 46 years now, so we were too old to adopt, however i have a brother and three sisters who have given me 10 nieces and nephews and 13 great nieces and nephews. I am a retired pediatric nurse, so I was present for most of their births. I was welcomed as the co-coach in the delivery suite. The first skin contact gave me chills and great memories Tom, thank you so much for sharing! PS: I hope that you and Lance will have many siblings for Robbie to enjoy. Ray.

It's probably by far the most important thing you're building, having a child, forming a family, cherishing. Learning to become a parent. It takes us somewhere else. My partner and I have adopted 3 children!

You know that feeling when you realize that you are in "over your head" so to speak, and you realize that it is very serious until you are out. That is what it was like for us with our one and only son, and I know you guys are the same. Ours is 38 years old now, and only recently have we started to relax about him.(But I must admit, I have never slept well since he was born even without him even living in the house.) Hubby and I raised him, as his birth mom wanted very little to do with him from the beginning. Great story time, that brought back many pleasant memories for us. Thanks.

I have enjoy the story when Robbie was born and and like how you Lance are great parent so must have being for both size in families.
thank you for sharing your stories of Robbie-Ray's birthing experience. You triggered for me the memories I have of the births of my sons, 30 years ago and 26 years ago. Each was unique and thus memorable. The first involved a 2-hour long ambulance ride for my sons' mother, with me following at speed in our car, from a small rural hospital to the city, where my son was born within minutes of arriving in the delivery room! I still remember the head nurse saying, "no one has taught this mother how to push!" The 2nd was a planned home-birth with a midwife, and it was awesome, too. It is these sorts of memories that help me continue to appreciate my sons, even into their adulthood years!

Oh Tom And Lance Enjoy every minute, it goes so fast!. My son is 21 now and I still feel like a new Mum. He is a policeman and I'm so proud of him. I raised him on my own and I think I did pretty well. Those first years seem a distant memory but the memory is still there. The feeling of their tiny hand grabbing your finger, first smile, first giggle. Hold on to them guys, Before you know it they are taller them you. I wish you all nothing less than a life time of pure happiness and bliss... Debbie xx

Words cannot describe the first time you hold your baby but your entire body speaks volumes for the love you have for Robbie. You both have risen to the challenge of raising your son which as you said is both magical and scary at the same time . You are a wonderful example of what family should be . Of course I approve of Robert as a first name, since it’s also mine, and the combination to make Robbie Ray is simply wonderful. It’s so clear how much both of you love him and are doing everything you can to give him a magical childhood. I particularly love the way you describe your heart opening up and showing places you didn’t know existed in it.

I can relate to every word you said.
My husband and I were on an infertility roller coaster for 10 years before we adopted our baby girl from China. She was 9 months old when we were able to hold her for the first time. I can still feel that moment of first contact in my very soul. And before we got her, we had to drop our luggage off in the hotel room. When we opened the door to the room, there was a crib in there. I looked at my husband and was like - holy mackerel- in about a half hour there will be 3 of us in this room!!!
She is now 17 years old, plays the violin, rides and jumpes horses at 3'9", is #9 in her class, and is applying to colleges!!! It goes so fast! Enjoy every second!!!!💗
