Very well presented video. A well-implemented OEE is a holistic approach to the entire cycle that identifies all the production line's shortcomings. That includes all the inputs, not just the final output.
How would you know that the carton feeder is a problem area if not measured as part of the OEE implementation?
You need the OEE system to tell you how to improve all the variable inputs.

My favorite video so far. Once again brilliant insight.

Sir, very well explained. Thank you so much

Well, I highly agree with your points that real-time monitoring of shop floor rooms is important to enhance performance.
But I strongly disagree with your points about real-time OEE. Real-time OEE is not only a measuring tool; we can also keep track of the performance and availability and log them into a database for further use. It is a measuring tool that has been used internationally. How do you present those technical engineering things to the senior management team?

Hi Johnny - I agree with recording it, I agree with recording it automatically if it saves time/money. But the important phrase is not that it is real time, it should be called automatic OEE. Senior management get obsessed with the idea that they can watch a grpah on a screen dip and in the next 10 mins make some kind of correction....no world class business works like that...

@@paulallen5321 Yes, I recently just designed a real-time OEE for a company. Normally they check it every 15 minutes ( just a glimpse). Nobody watch the screen all the time. When OEE drops to a certain level, then arise the alarm.
Well if you have automated OEE ,why not visualize them. OEE just a metrics, if you store your real-time OEE, you can see the trend and patterns over a day, or week or even a month. You understand when or what time your performance drop. You can also find correlation with other machines and conduct machine learning experiments.

Johnny - i agree collect data and use it to improve, my point is the phrase 'real time' I could walk into a business this morning with a blank piece of paper and a pencil and start collecting this data and I could get the same benefits. Real-time is not important, collecting the right data is...

What kind of in-process-controls would you recommend for a toothpaste packaging line? eg long technical breakdowns, setup times that take 1h more than usual and are still ongoing. Especially when the line does not have a lot of error sensors yet

Jan - thanks for the question, firstly you need to standardise what is happening. Sensors can be added later. So standard maintenance routines especially for consumable items like seals and rubber heads on pneumatic pick up arms etc. Once the equipment is in std condition standardise all the mechanical settings, add marks and scales so repeatable setting can be found quickly. You find set time will drop dramatically. Now record your OEE manually looking for other big losses, if you think sensors and indicator lights will help add them as you see the problem...

Hi Paul, id like to purchase your books, but id like to buy them in PDF format, because its more convenient for me to carry them around because i travel a lot. Can you provide a link of a shop that does so, or can you sell them to me yourself so you can get 100% of their value instead of giving the part of that to the seller.
I already have "Drink Tea and Read the paper" so id like to purchase the other two books.
    Thanks!
