Brazil's a deeply religious country. Devotional, fanatical religious beliefs can be toxic, destructive, discriminatory and many other unpleasant things besides, but at the same time, nothing that he said here suggested that his faith was fanatical to such an extent that it impinges on others, and if his faith is what has helped him come to terms with life after the disaster and the deaths of so many of his friends and colleagues, then we should also be able to accept that faith has a positive side as well.
