As a content creator i wanted to take a couple minutes to say how very well edited this is, and how much appreciation i have for the time it took to put this together! Seriously well done and unexpected for a channel with under 3k subs! Well done for a channel of any size! I did exploration of Norrath in EQOA. There was a cave not too far from Halas under the water in a stream. Pretty sure we had an area with apes too not too far from Oggok. With games like EQ and EQOA i was always drawn to dangerous areas through pure intrigue and the want to find a new, and undiscovered camp, with perhaps some UBER rare, undropped item... but i was also shitting my pants the entire time because the world DEMANDED you respect it! So water was quite creepy.

Love your videos man! From what I remember: The monster in Lake Rathe was a huge shark (Megalodon). But because the game was quite new, there were a lot of issues with a huge upscaled shark model in that zone and caused all kinds of problems ( clipping as well as aggro issues) So they removed it quite early. I think they later brought it back as the Fabled Megalodon in a muuuuuuch later expansion. It's insane how much pointless stuff I still remember about this game after having played it nearly 15 years ago.
i really feel bad now, i dunno why I didn't think much of it at the time. I put a warning in the description and did an annotation - hopefully that helps

When this video started I was going to mention that during the early days of Prexus, there were rumors of a hidden entrance to Hate under the specter island in Oasis but I thought I would wait to see if you brought it up. I've played with numerous old schoolers from different servers over the years and I've yet to find someone who had that rumor on their server so I'm surprised you mentioned it! Unless of course you played on Prexus? Great video as always, keep them up, definitely my favorite EQ videos.

There were little wooden doodads on the docks in Timorous that would turn when you clicked them. No reason. I think eventually they fixed them not to move. Kind of similar to that shed in front of the entrance to Blackburrow. Mobs would path through it and open it like a door. I figure since both things had wooden texture, they just fiddled with properties of a door and made them, but didn't remove the open/close function.
These videos are amazing, make more of them! So I can rewatch them over and over again and pointlessly ponder these mysteries... because it's fun! A guild about searching for mysteries? Sounds like my kinda thing! Reminds me of the Twilight Brigade from .hack// series.
I was an early EQ(1) player. I remember hearing of a lost city or structure in the Ocean of Tears. So, I used my Enchanter with water-breathing, turned on LOGGING, did /LOC every few seconds.. and literally mapped ALL of the OOT.. I went across the ocean like 140 times, methodically moving south each pass. I wrote a mapping program that took my log files and turned them into a graphical map. Bottom line spoiler.. nothing under the water but sharks. :( But, on the good side, I made loads of money dragging corpses from boat-zone fails.
The desert of Ro did have these really cool 5 flying rectangles in the sky you could randomly see. Depending on how high they were, they were likely much bigger than carpets. It was one of my favorite thing about the zone.
I loved this video! All that talk of myths in the game reminded me of being a kid and hearing stories about Bigfoot in GTA San Andreas and other stuff like that. I've never really played much of Everquest but it looks like a pretty well made world. I'll definitely be checking out your other videos! :)
awesome video. I had more fun exploring every square inch of this game looking for senseless mysteries than actually playing content. water stuff was especially fun! It took years to figure out most of the stuff never amounted to anything, so genius!
Back in 2000 when I started on a gnome necro and spent many fruitless hours camping the ak'anon newb tunnels (by the evil guildmasters) for Red V and the Bull Smasher hammer (forever my favorite item!), I often would try to swim as far as possible into that underwater tunnel. It just sorta ends. What a mystery! What did they plan there? Some ultra secret guild master area? A sewer system perhaps leading to another zone? Maybe they intended loot to spawn down there. It sure confused me. Heck that whole city is confusing. The central area of Ak'Anon is a maze like building full of clockwork gnomes and a clockwork mayor. But are there even quests in there? The building was so well crafted but then it's all pointless! Classic everquest!
The first time I got on the boat from BB to FP was almost indescribable. I don't think any other game gave me such a sense of adventure and anxiety as EQ did when the boat moved off and left Faydwer behind.
I completely agree with everything you said about boats in game. This is why I don't like the idea of being teleported everywhere and instant travel, I think traveling should be a huge factor in MMORPGs. It makes the game seem more organic and it makes you feel like you are in a living world. It's the experience and exploration that should be the driving factor in games like Everquest and World of Warcraft, not instant gratification and rewards.
I remember the Lake Rathetear sea monster myth. That was so long ago that my brain is trying to tell me that I once saw it while looking underwater using the half-submerged vision. Edit: Actually what I thought I saw was eerily similar to Faydedar. I suppose one way I could satisfy my curiosity is to see if the model data for Faydedar existed in vanilla EQ prior to Kunark.
Just found your video. The island you talk about at 2:33 is where players fight Faydedar for the druid epic, Nature Walkers Scimitar. The Tangrin is for the enchanter epic. Perhaps you can use this for something in the future!
One of my first EQ experiences; I was waiting on a boat at Butcherblock and a sea goblin walked out of the water and into the village, I was soooooo freaked out (he conned red). I was so hooked.
All i know about it is that it isn't done : p! My hopes for new games are always super low - when it's a finished and playable thing maybe I'll look into it

thanks! It is literally a room, in Timorous Deep, that will teleport you to different cities.... Not much to say about that one! But I am working on Mysteries #2 right now...
Have you looked into Pantheon at all? Huge EQ fan myself, been following Pantheon closely and it has a lot of potential. Should launch sometime next year
oh man, that part where you said witnessing a robbery. When i was a new player waiting on the freeport dock for the boat, it got there, a halfing jumped off, Then i read that he pickpocketed me. I was unaware of the 'emoticon funtcion' so i thought he really did it. I chased him down. i was steaming. Then "Oh!" "he didnt really pickpocket me"
The Ghost in FoB Coast.. There was several quests in Cabalis at launch, Notably the armor Quests for each class. I believe she was part of one of those back then. this was around when targishin still spawned by keal.
Downloaded p1999 and have spent more time watching EQ videos than playing EQ. Your videos do all of the things I would want to do in game without the time sink.

I think this is just as good as the mysteries video. Humor is top notch
