      Good man. You will not regret it. I heard Leon Todd's complex patches on the FM9- amazing and he was only at 70% CPU. He could never imitate the same sounds FM3. On the FM9 they were basically identical to the sound of the patches on the AxeFX III. You can run dual amps and numerous, high-resolution effects. 2 instead of 3 reverbs I think but that is really splitting hairs. It's the high quality of each effect that matters and on the FM9, they are world-class. Having all this in a convenient floorboard is very convenient. Big LED screen too. Not a touchscreen like the QC (would be nice) and no grab handles but those are not deal breakers for me.
      Keep an eye on the Fractal Forum. I think they are going to start a thread on the FM9 to track waitlist progress, and other things. There is already a general section dedicated to the FM9.

      So in this case the only things you really miss out on from the axe 3 atm is the vocoder and the additional delay block and drive blocks? I'm seeing the fm9 is about 50% of the processing power of the 3 but it seems to do almost everything the 3 does so far I'm curious what that extra space and processing power will be used for eventually

    but how do you connect your FM9 to computer? Do you need to download and pay for a software (I've heard of Logic Pro, but it's too expensive), is there any other option for a graphical user interface to see what you're changing on the screen of your laptop?

    • @AxeFxTutorials
      @AxeFxTutorials  Год назад +2

      the Editor software is a free download from the Fractal website. you use a standard USB cable from the FM9 to your computer. Logic Pro is a DAW - a program to record and produce music - created by Apple and is not for adjusting your Fractal device.

    If they dumped the synth block and brought in Tone Matching then it would be great. Sticking with my AxeFXII. For true portability you need at least one expression pedal built in. I still think Fractal slightly missed the mark again. I guess I'll check back again in 2022.....

    How hard is it to take an AXE III preset and port over?

    • @AxeFxTutorials
      @AxeFxTutorials  2 года назад

      The process is simple: export from Axe-Edit and drag the file onto the name area of FM9-Edit. But since the Axe3 has more processing power, you want to reduce CPU on the Axe first. Maybe save to a blank location, then get the CPU down and save, then export that. I’ll be posting CPU suggestions for transferring presets in the future here and on the forum.

      Part of the reason they didn’t go to the beefier chipset. All three have fans. Never an issue with the FM3 so far, as it tends to not fire up the fans. Is your III well vented?

      I keep my Axe3 in a fairly air-restricted rack case and I’ve never once heard the fans. I run all of my presets around 80-85% usage for long periods of time! To be honest I didn’t even realize it had active cooling. So I’m surprised by your comment.

  • @ALIASZARDOZ
    @ALIASZARDOZ 2 года назад +2

    With the FM3, it would have been very clever to create a FC8 than a FC6. Because with a FC8 and FM3 you could change the Presets and the 8 scenes in the same panel view board. What a pity that Fractal didn't think that and create a FM9 instead of an elementary FC8 and much more CPU capacity for the FM3...
    With this little CPU it's as if you were presented with lots of delicious pastries or great mouthwatering cakes behind a window of a shop and you are forbidden to touch and taste them. This is the first downside of the FM3 : the installed CPU processor already has its limits.
    Bâh bâh bâh bâh bâh bâh....
    For $1200, it's a shame.
    What a pity !...

      I've been googling around on this thing for a while trying to figure out which one I want to buy, and since I can't actually try one anywhere in person, I've been watching tons of youtube vids. This one is pretty informative: ruclips.net/video/rJNkdnLLo3o/видео.html&start=519
      At the end of this video the guy plays the exact same stuff through all 3 products using the same exact amp sim chain on all three systems and there is literally no difference between the tone of the rack mount, the FM3, or the FM9. There are some limitations of the smaller systems though. The biggest difference between the 3 products (from what I understand) is how many amp sims you can simultaneously run. Again from what I understand, you can simulate 4 different amps and some crazy amount of different cabinets *at the same time* with the rackmount version, 2 amps and 4 cabinets simultaneously with the FM9, but only 1 amp with 1 cabinet with the FM3 (all of the "amps" have 4 channels). So theoretically, if you wanted to sound like you're playing multiple amps at the same time, you'd need either the FM9 or the rackmount, but each individual amp sim will sound the same regardless of which system you have, and I think that most people use only one amp at a time - especially when you realize that every amp has 4 channels - so you can easily make a clean one and a dirty one. The biggest tonal difference, I think, would come with the fact that you can define 2 different amps on the same patch for the FM9 which would allow you to seamlessly switch between 2 completely different amps - so you could have a clean fender sound and a dimed marshall on the same patch, and jump between them or even have them both on at the same time.

  • @thorggernaut3081
    @thorggernaut3081 2 года назад

    I know this unit is capable of running 4 CABLE METHOD to an external amp, but the real question is whether or not it can channel switch an "external amp" (such as a tube amp or combo amp) using the FM9's switches. now that would be life changing......

    • @marxug1
      @marxug1 2 года назад

      Of course you know that a Helix can do this?

    • @Spidouz
      @Spidouz 2 года назад

      Shooting in the dark here since I don’t know the FM9, so I’m just guessing that if the switch onboard can’t do it, you can easily use MIDI with a remote switcher such Gizmo switching. Then you can program one of the switch to use MIDI to change channel on your tube amp. But that’s the worse case scenario I believe, you might find easier and more simple solution directly from Fractal. As said, I don’t know the FM9 and I haven’t read the manual (yet). I would be surprised it can’t change channel on your tube amp.

    • @thorggernaut3081
      @thorggernaut3081 2 года назад

      @@marxug1 yeah the HELIX is exceptional as a "control centre" to use with an external amp. great FX too but I'm crossing my fingers that this fm9 can do the same thing as I much prefer the FX that fractal offers and if need be, I can use in tandem with my MESA jp2c

    • @therealshavenyak
      @therealshavenyak 2 года назад +1

      @@thorggernaut3081 the JP2C has MIDI doesn’t it? I’d think you can probably do it. The FM9 should at least be able to send program changes when you switch scenes or presets, which can select channels or whatnot on your amp. I haven’t looked at the implementation details on either device though, so take that with a grain of salt.

      It should be - but it won't. Fractal is not widely available. You can find a helix in virtually any guitar store you walk into. Fractal seems to firmly believe in their direct seller model. They don't want to work with the guitar centers of the world and that limits their availability.
