Edna has always been my favorite character.
i saw it in glasgow tonight and it has to be 1 of the best shows i have ever seen. if you get a chance then go and see it. FANTASTIC!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

great cast, great song- they do sound a bit breathless at the start though but wow its soooo gooooood! Especially in the theatre- wow.
Its funny, but even though Ben is in a cast of energetic dancers he STILL stands out- i just thought the Josephs were lazy but he really does have star quality.

I saw Hairspray in seattle when it was in previews and loved it. The london cast is the best. It is better than Broadway and don't even mention the movie. The movie was not good.
@lulabel177 I met Leanne Jones when she did the Bradford Panto last year she's really nice and has an amazing voice
Edna's voice here reminds me more of Paul Vogt from MADtv, who actually did play Edna in the Broadway version 2007. He didn't sing as well as Michael though.

In the original production, Motormouth wears a blonde afro wig in "You Can't Stop the Beat"
I know people have said this but it's quite impossible to compare original musical and the movie musical. For instance in the movie, they weren't recorded singing AND dancing, just singing in a studio ... and this Penny blows Amanda out of the water vocal-wise. Actually all of the Penny's I've seen on Broadway and on tour do. This cast is amazing though!

@angelfishlover I'm currently playing Edna for an amateur production of this show and I'll tell you, ITS SOO difficult, especially for a heavy foot straight man who's NEVER done drag before, dancing in those heels is probably one of the great challenges of my life.
How did you do ?!?? It’s been a decade but I imagine you might remember ?! 😆

i hate when people say the movie was better because it was on broadway and was succesful before it was a movie
The dancing and the costumes are almost, if not, identical to the Broadway Production

@sifteddreamz thanks, but that was last year, and i was voted as the best actor there :) some of the kids thought i was a girl until the end.... when i REFUSED to snog the guy who was playing link! they made me do it in the end :S strange thing was i wasn't teased, and the guy was, ah well, i hope you do well

Kinda hard to believe that the man playing Edna also played Marius 20 years ago. He does both parts awesome, though!
i'm mad amber didn't sing her high part and what was that note they ended on? their supposed to make a chord not one single note.

I totally agree twingle, the live show is much better, they sound quite out of breath in this! Maybe it was the nerves or something! But it's still FAB! I love Hairspray!!!
no offense to the fans of the movie version but this performance was much more entertaining than the movie one =D
