- I'm back in LA and I fancied a burger, so I went to see Jay Leno (who only eats food served by people in paper hats). He said I could drive any of his cars - so I picked the one I've always wanted to own....

seeing these two, top down, grey hair flickering in the wind is just something special.
I bet I get grey hair and they will still be around, good health to both of them.
They make a great pair. James was downright giddy in this video... for James.
J would look good with James hair.
and vise versa.
@@jackgilchrist Yeah, he seemed to be smiling more than normal.
Mr. May, no need to fast-forward. If we clicked on a May-Leno video, its because we're car nerds. This video makes me happy.
Agreed!
I'd have stayed for that 8 minutes
I’m not a car nerd but I appreciate the banter and knowledge
👍🏼❤️
Not a car nerd, but I am a James May fan.
"Is that a compliment?"
"No"
"Right"
🤣🤣🤣
It is even more funny, because on Top Gear James was the one with classic style. He reminded me of Roger Moore in his series, like a lord always having some fancy taste regarding cars or clothing.
so funny
Rough timestamp: 0:31 .
It’s funny cause it’s true.
Funny that James mentioned his Alpine. I drove my A110 to Jay's Garage a few weeks ago in the hope that someone might notice it and invite me in. If you've never been there, there's no sign, no reception - you honestly wouldn't know it's even there. There was a guy walking his dog when I pulled up, we got chatting about the car and it turned out he was a metal fabricator at JG. Incredibly he invited me in and I got a private tour, I got to meet Jay and he had a look over the A110. A memory I will treasure for a long time.
Thank you for sharing your ounce in a lifetime experience. As a lifetime vehicle lover I could spend a lot of time enjoying J' collection
Very nice 👌
Super cool. Thanks for sharing.
Unreal ❤
Jay likely mental imaged your car when May mentioned his.
Jay and May could be a great car show duo they play extremely well off each other. Hope to see more of James May at Jay Leno's Garage..
"J & J" At the wheel. Would be the name of the show. And it would be something memorable.
JDM.... Jay and Dr. May?
@@maggnar I do think that "Jay and May" sounds better. Maybe a series of specials with titles like "Jay and May: The Roadster Chronicles." Or "Jay and May: The Hot Hatch Years."
Really? I thought it was like pulling teeth. Leno seems very bored.
Jay and James. If Leno came anywhere near the UK, it would cause an earthquake
I don't understand why James thinks he's boring the audience with useless trivia when many of us (if not most or all of us) actually enjoy hearing whatever he talks about.
He can make seemingly boring things quite interesting. :)
I love it when, at 16:25, James is talking about the car and says, "This is lovely, thank you for this," and Leno responds by "there are so many good roads here.."😂. Completely agree with him, though.
Brilliant work, Lucy and the team! This video will definitely be rewatched many times. :)
Nah, he's just unusually privy to modern day viewer retention. 😂
Well, his last visit with Leno he seemed jet-lagged. Can happen to anyone.
The complaimt was he was terribly unenthusiastic last visit, he was genuinely interested in these cars thus had more presence - if you've been watching him a lot the last few years you'll notice a distinctive decline in James' automotive interest, it took a deep dive following the crash in "Scandi-Flick"
Did his interest in cars really decline? I thought he had been genuinely interested in many things for a long time. Also, isn't it possible to be deeply interested in something without showing it outwardly, especially when you're taking it in for the first time? Or maybe that’s just the introvert in me speaking...lol
Captain slow is his persona
This video honestly made me smile the whole way through. To see these two enthusiasts pouring their love over a 50 -year-old vehicle for our entertainment is just magic.
Agreed, although, near the end, asking Jay Leno, "Do you think I should buy this car?"... (like this, or any car... I mean just look at Jay's collection!) would be like asking Jeremy Clarkson, "Do you think we want your opinion?" The answer, to him, is always yes.
It made me sad to see Jay Leno look like that.
The moment I saw this video I clicked it for the exact reason you described.
@Okurkaarrgghh Same. He's a treasure.
@Okurkaarrgghh man's getting old just glad seeing him about
i do hope that Mr Leno has a long-term plan of turning his garage and car collection into a museum, where more people can appreciate it.
I'd think that's what most of his TV money will be for, since he never touched it.
same it’s more than rare fast cars he’s has some genuine museum quality stuff that’s needs to be preserved
@@Crazy_ScrewdriverYes, especially being he had no children.
Can’t help but have the same thought. For humanity’s sake keep that collection together and keep the cars running. Let’s not have a Red Barchetta future…
That was honestly beautiful. Two nerdy old guys talking about cars, that was really really good, thank you
I found it quite moving to e honest, they seeed to be enjoying themselves. French blue Triumphs are beautiful. Enjoy these people who have entertained us so much.
I second that.
First time I've ever noticed Jay age though
French RACING Bleu and Magenta were both spectacular colours for the TR6. What a fantastic video, thank you!
I could watch James May and Jay Leno all day, everyday. What a fantastic combination!
From behind the car they look like two old ladies.
You two need to do this more often. Make a channel please.
Just like two good friends out on yet another outing together! No one to impress, and nothing to prove. Just another great day to enjoy as well as the fellowship.
Two very intelligent older men
Jay has lost weight, hope he is doing well?
James still looks a mess as always.
The sound engineering on this video is spectacular. I can hear their voices quite clearly with an appreciative engine burble, but basically zero wind noise. All the good, none of the bad. Thanks guys!
Good call sir
Rode mic windscreens for the win!
I would state the opposite! There's a nasty low end rumble in the driving scenes. But I am listening through a subwoofer and studio monitors. Needs a low cut/highpass filter.
Chest microphones.

Nichè problem :p
I could watch hours and hours of these two icons together...... James May and Jay Leno make for an amazing automotive enthusiast pairing!! Well done, gentleman!
Just imagine James May and Jay Leno pulling up next to you at a light. 2 Mount Rushmore figures in the automotive space. Absolute legends.
Exactly, and in a TR6 !!
@@ben_jam I was thinking the same thing! Oh cool screen name too.
I went to school with James. Same year different set/class. He was obsessed with mechanics then, great sense of humour. He was a very good pianist and has mentioned Peter Crowther the music teacher as a great mentor.
this relationship is the next best thing since the trio, i hope jay finds this fun and agrees to do more videos
Hope James meets Cleetus and crew.
I don't know I would say American top gear should be hosted by Jason Randy and liberman they have the closet magic imo
kind of like Seinfeld's coffee vids
Jay started as a comedian I think right? So he should see the humor.
Genuinely good chemistry between the 2. They would make great co-hosts on a show....
Leno's doing a great deal of work to preserve classic cars in California - forgetting whats in his garage. California has one of the most stringent emissions laws in the US, and many classic cars of the 70s & 80s have been absolute pains to register in the state. Since 2005, only cars built before 1975 were exempt from the regulations, eliminating the "rolling year" exemption. Leno was part of a group that campaigned the legislature in the state to enact whats been called "Leno's Law" (SB-712) which updated the exemption to include all vehicles which are 30 years and older. It was amended earlier this year and will go into effect in 2027.
This is a big deal for the classic car owner in the state, and Leno was instrumental in its passing.
In 5 years, gas prices will hit 15-50$ just to annoy people to get them into an ev
Since most of his car are not covered by the emission law, he can get away with it.
@@wizpin Nothing with with EV as your daily. Just save the classic for special trips.
@@sailingspark9748 That's the funny thing. Both of these guys drive an EV as their daily car.

Over 22 minutes of pure joy and happiness, from 2 of my biggest automotive heroes. Please keep these coming!
"Our Man In... Jay's Garage" is definitely a series I would watch
You could probably crank out 8-10 episodes out of it.
Then, for season two it would be his second garage.
@@DawidUliczny-ro7eo
It would be way more episodes, if May did *one car per episode* ...!
I would *love* to see a show like that, with Leno riding shotgun, of course --exactly like in this video, but with adjusted audio levels. Jay knows a lot about his cars. 👍🏁
Jay Leno has his own channel where he talks about his cars
@@rorschak47
Yeah, I know ☺but this should be with James May.
James may would spend the entire time organizing the cars by year. Then he’d change his mind and organize by color. Then he’d change his mind and organize by model. Then he’d decide the pictures on the wall need organized. It would be a lot of organizing
Please do not skip James' explications. That is why we love him.
James: stop self deprecating, we like your talking. Do it for us before it's too late.
I was waiting for Jay to say, "Just take this one"
hey ... if i might just explain ... self deprecating is what james and the english have made our own ... (at the risk of bragging lol)
Self deprecating is a core part of James (and British) humor. I doubt he'll ever stop and I don't think he should, it would be weird, he wouldn't be James then.
Could watch the entire trip with these two gents bantering across the country. The depth of automotive knowledge and trivia could fill a library and they clearly have a visible respect for each other.
Jay is a solid guy who always gives his time to anyone seriously into automobiles but he is always the one driving.
For him to go on a lengthy drive, like this one, with someone else behind the wheel is a testament to how much he enjoys Captain slow's company. Just wonderful viewing. Hats off and thank you!
He let Jerry drive the Porsche.
I love this video MORE than any other video. When I was 17, I bought a ‘67 MG BGT and still have it. I had a spinal cord injury when I was 21 and working at a Ski Resort, (while skiing). I also owned a ‘69 TR6 before my accident but got rid of it as the rings were very nearly nonexistent. I got a ‘72 TR6 not long after my accident. I can’t afford to restore my old MG again, it’s got overdrive in 3rd & 4th and I need to find a good "custodian" for it…thanks very much for sharing this absolutely fantastic video and if Jay ever wants a rare, early 1967 MG, give me a message.
I’m currently 22 years old and have owned my tr6 for just over 3 years now. I got it a week before my 19th birthday! It’s my favirate car I’ve ever bought and I intend to keep it as long as I possibly can. The straight six makes such a perfect noise and has the perfect amount of power for out little country roads. The fuel injection system is fantastic and has never let me down. Me and some of my friends who also own classic triumphs just finished an 800 mile trip though the Yorkshire Mores. No one broke down or had any sort of issues with there cars they all performed perfectly, just goes to show if you really look after a car they will generally look after you. Top video love seeing videos of one of my favirate cars the Triumph TR6!
I love to hear stories of young people who are into classic British roadsters. I have always been a MG owner and hope there is someone younger to take it over when I can no longer enjoy it.
A tr6 was my first car! Loved it
I have a 71 TR6 and I wish I could get a fuel injected one, they're pretty rare in America. Sadly we mainly only got the carb versions over here.
My old man has a TR4. Great cars!
A friend of mine introduced me to his dad's beautiful red Spitfire Mk.III when I was in college circa 2010. We used to take it out on Sundays for a lil cruise. It grabbed eyeballs wherever it went. It used to be hilarious cos we'd be gunning it foot to the floor with its sports exhaust screaming n the other cars in our group (A Gallardo, an E92 M3, Evo X, an F430) would be just cruising alongside in 2nd gear! 🤣🤣 We definitely were the odd one out but man those were some fun times. Also terrifying because the traffic scene here in India is chaotic n We used to be worried that a truck or bus wouldn't notice a tiny lil car driving along. 😂
I remember bring 16 and a neighbor had a 1973 TR6 in his barn that didn't run for years. I got it started but could not get the clutch to work. One night some friends of mine were camping on his property (he has 110 acres) and we decided to try to get it working. After a few tries it suddenly went into gear. It was past midnight and none of the lights worked but we were able to drive it. The man who owned the property came out of his house so excited and told us to have some fun. Luckily the next morning it was still working. He had historical plates on it so it was legal to drive. He got insurance on it and told us to take it out and drive it. Didn't have a single issue that day. Parked it that evening and we could never get it to go in gear again. No idea what happened to it, but it will be forever be a memory I never forget.
There's some mystical symbolism in there...
The machine spirit decided to have some fun one last time.
Sometimes I think my car is alive too. lol. I've also had similar experiences in the past. AI may prove that consciousness can exist outside the body, who really knows for sure? It might just be manifesting itself in a way that we don't fully understand yet. A car was created by "cells" on an assembly line, it needs to breathe, keep itself cool, and feed. Obviously a car cannot self replicate so it's not really alive, but the "spirit" of the same functions a living organism might inhabit makes it appear to be alive. A new car is as pliant as a baby, an old car is clunky and tired.... AND one thing is certain, a car reciprocates love, rewarding care.
Nearly 60years ago I watched a BBC programme describing the birth of a new sports , in this case a TR6. The thing that made the greatest impression were the tired looking chain smoking engineers struggling through interminable meetings. There and then I decided to buy a car designed by youngish people. Friends pressed me to get a Healey or MG B but to me they were middle aged. My first sportscar was a mid engined Emeryson , but maturity at 24 introduced me to the 3 litre Marcos and fifty years later I still have four tucked away.
As a teenager I had a 1600 Mk I Triumph Vitesse, just like the one described by James. I payed peanuts for it, white with a considerable amount of rust. Went on to buy a 16v Triumph Dolomite Sprint now that was a different kettle of fish payed good money for it, worth every penny of it. The 1977 Sprint lives on, it’s still on the road somewhere in the UK
Hello Jay..good vibes to you man..
At 17 in 1966 I bought a year old Triumph TR4, light blue wood dash..This was in the San Fernando Valley..
Raced thru all the canyons for a few years then bought a VW Camper and sold the TR4..
This video makes me smile and cry..that's life..
Born in 68 Grew up in the SFV left about 10 yrs ago .Great place to be a car guy back then
Reflecting on James' comments about why we own classic cars, got me thinking really. What is the charm? My wife and I have always been fans of "old stuff". Not just cars, houses, bicycles, record players, oil lamps, we're just fascinated by how old technology was and how it still works perfectly well. When we first got together we bought a listed 2-up, 2-down cottage in Essex and the guy that sold it to us commented "You never really own a house like this, you just look after it for the next person..." I think that's how I feel about classic car ownership and why I love doing it. It's both the preservation of these incredible machines that are basically museum pieces now, coupled with the sheer privilege of being able to interact with them and experience a tiny bit of what it was like. I found myself driving my kids home a few weeks ago, along a winding country lane at night, in our Fiat 500 Giardiniera. It was hot, the roof was open, it stank of exhaust fumes, it's noisy, the headlamps are useless, there are no seat belts, there isn't even synchro-mesh on the gears, you have to double de-clutch. And yet all three of us were grinning from ear to ear, and I said to the kids "This was what it was like driving home when your grandad was your age." Isn't that a special thing?
Jay Leno îs 75 here.
James May at 62, looks like a boy next to him.
What I mean, because I'm not hating on this people I grew up watching., is that five years ago, Jay Leno, looked like Jay Leno did in his forties.
We age in steps, not gradually. And we only age outside, inside they are still boys.
Love you both, be safe!
Don't forget that since that time Jay Leno was burned in a gasoline fire, he's fallen off a motorcycle, and fallen down a hill. He has had a very rough few years.
he went on ozipmpic it messed him up
Just what I was thinking but j lenno looking v frail.
I think Jay's serious injuries and the weight loss aged him a good bit.
The main difference between men and boys, as is sometimes said, is the price of their toys 😅
TR6… Burgers… talking Cars and Life topics… simply great!
Two old car guys talking about their favourite cars and life. Excellent.
We love you.
What do you mean old?
The more I watch and listen to Jay, the more I like him more than I thought I ever could be possible. What a genuine person and a true ambassador to automotive history. Even at his age, he's a bottomless pit of automotive knowledge for lack of better words. As much as he was successful on the comedy side, he was born for automotive history.
Imagine driving down to the street and pulling up next to Jay Leno and James May. 🤗
Having worked in the wineries in Napa Valley. I've met a few stars and famous people in my day, but none that I would cross the street to go see. Either one of these two gentlemen I would cross the street for. National treasures 🇺🇲 🇬🇧
Used to run into Jay almost weekly. I lived right around the corner from big dog garage. He even raced me and my buddie in our hondas in his shogun. As a group we hit over 110mph on the 101 freeway.
@@demsarewet1ply Funny. I read that as "used to run into May almost weekly."

@@aletheuo475love James, and Clarkson. Hamster too.
I drove a delivery route in the SF Valley two days a week in the 90’s and 2000’s, and I saw Jay driving around town quite a few times, usually in Burbank or NoHo/Sun Valley.
He’s just as chill as you would think and always had a smile and a wave for people that would call out to him. In the world of TV/Hollywood people, he’s about as close to regular guy as you are going to find.
I, like James, fell in love with the TR6 when they first came out, but unlike James, I now have a "71 TR6 parked in my garage. It blew a head gasket in 1984 in Seattle and sat in the back of a garage until 12 years ago when I bought it for $400. Everything needed to be gone through and I did it all myself except for the machining of the head. It still has its original paint which is in remarkable shape and NO RUST! My best "Bud" has a red TR6 and we try to get out once a month in the "good weather months" and cruise the twisty back country roads of Southern Oregon and usually end up at a winery. Life is better in a TR6 so I say, "Go for it James", and live with the "hero" of your youthful dreams. 😎👍
You only live once!! Have the car you dream of if you can afford it!!😊
Thanks for the shout-out to the roads of Southern Oregon for cars like this. I live in Prospect and don't mind the twisty roads that take me "down to the valley floor". Bought myself a 2001 Audi TT roadster about 7+ years ago as a retirement gift to myself. Have yet to do anything but ENJOY DRIVING IT ! "Little" sports cars, especially convertibles, are one of the greatest pleasures in life, imho.
I’m 71 now and I owned a ‘71 from new. Terrific car but only really lasted about a year before extensive body work and electrical repairs were required. Great exhaust note tho’
I'd trade you, your car, for my wife and kids?
I bought a 1975 TR6 in the spring of 1976 when it was six months old. The original owner had never parked it out of doors and only taken the top down once to see how it worked. His wife got pregnant and the first thing they did was put the car up for sale. I've been driving it ever since - 49 years! Very few problems over the years. Voltage regulator, exhaust, fuel tank and a new top and a new radiator. Last year I put new foam in the seats as they had deteriorated pretty bad. Love the car. Only drive in the summer as I live in snow country but every spring I look forward to the first nice dry day to fire it up and put the top down.
The nostalgia/ interest of James May, and the knowledge/ passion of Jay Leno…a pleasure to watch.
No doubt I’ll be rewatching this one a few times.
More of these two please! What a treat!
Poor Jay is looking so old and tired. I love both of these men so much. The joy and knowledge they have brought to me over the years is priceless.
Hopefully he's ok; looks sickly
Still very with it but physically I noticed the same thing… time isn’t kind to anyone. God bless us all!!!! 😎
Too much weight loss, particularly on senior citizens, typically results in this look. Loss of muscle mass, etc, is also a byproduct. He'd probably look better had he stopped about 20lbs ago. Regardless, I hope he's well.

I love this video and it makes me sad as well, seeing car people that I’ve been a fan of for so long starting to age, leaning in to hear each other and what not. I hope Jay and the trio are going to be here for a long time.
I love seeing James and Jay hanging out like this. They are like brothers from different sides of the pond.
I think the sun was coming out because James just found out the TR6 is not too expensive and Jay told him he should buy one. It’s like the dark cloud over James’s head with his worries about if he should buy a TR6 suddenly went away.
Perfect video. Two like-minded men in a car, just having a chat and when it's these two you listen to every word. It wasn't British obviously, but I owned a 1980 Fiat Pininfarina Spider 2000 (124) just after high school. 5 speed manual, drum brakes, no power steering. All of 80 hp (when it was new, I had it in 2003) And it's still the best driving experience I've ever had. It was raw, no filters, no bells and whistles, just a bare bones drive. It's amazing how a car like that can be more than just a way to get from point A to point B and become an experience. That's what is lost on many of today's cars. They just care about the efficiency of A to B, not creating that memorable experience.
What an incredible pairing! Absolutely magnificent. I’m beyond bias for living in SoCal & knowing Jay will cruise anywhere. If you’re driving around Malibu, PCH, Burbank or in this instance, the Canyons of Angeles Crest, Jay Leno could do a flying pass. For James May to be in a British Roadster w/Leno, ripping through the canyons that I used to live in?!? Speechless. That In-N-Out is in Sylmar/Pacoima on Laurel, off the 5. Those roads on the cliffs are Big Tujunga Canyon. When they show the sign for Sunland & they turned on to Oro Vista.. My Heart melted. Absolute Love.
👍 spoken like a true "car nut". ❤
LA used to be cool, now it's anti everything that was cool. Oh you can still have cool cars & a house in the canyon but it's gonna be very expensive.
I hope Jay Leno revives Newcombs Ranch. ❤️
@@richardmorris6365 reminds me of the old phrase "that place is so popular, nobody goes there anymore". I too lived in LA, and did the early am canyon drives and meet ups, we met at Crystal Cove, back in the 90s, perhaps early versions of Cars and Coffee. I always laugh at the "LA isn't popular/cool" comments (or people saying "Nobody wants to live in the LA areas"), and think, real estate prices sure seem to support the theory that there is a lot of demand.
Two absolutely class guys. A great watch.
These two are an absolutely joy to watch. The very first James May top gear scene was him driving a TR6 and in the rain with the top down.
That shot from the back, blink and you'll miss it. So much emotion from a shot of two grey-haired older men, who just won't shut up about cars and even though the video is a pain of noise and wind, you can't stop watching, always wanting more. What legends.
Jay is just a legend of legends. And so humble. What a great great man
Thank you James May and Jay Leno for the history lesson. My very first car that I restored in 1970-1972 was a clapped-out,1959 Triumph TR-3 that I bought from a counsin for the princely sum of $250. When I sold it two years later, for $1,250, I thought I would buy another British sports car icon, a seven year old, 1966, Jaguar XKE coupe. Since it had been an "everyday driver" by the first lady owner throughout several Akron, Ohio, winters, the Jaguar had many spots of rust and mechanical issues that needed to be addressed.
After several years of effort, I fixed all the rust holes repainted it a Cadillac Firemist maroon (AND actually got the electric fuel pump to consistently run without hitting with a hammer) so I could sell it for the princely sum of $5,500 to buy a 1971 DeTomaso Pantera -- another rusty Ohio car....
What a fantastic duo, I could watch stuff like this for ages. Absolutely ace.
Thanks to the crew for another great piece.
All the best. Cheers, lads.
I'm ready for a laid back, slower paced version of the grand tour with these two. Just drive interesting cars and talk off the cuff.
Old and unimproved tour!
How about 'Overdrive' - its both out of date and the top gear ;)
The grand(pa) tour
Sadly they’re both too old. I doubt neither would have any interest in doing it. Maybe they’d be interested in an episode per month where they take a car to a new restaurant
Would they beva good team for The Mille Miglia ?
I know you probably won't read this James, but buy your TR6. You've been a triumph fan for years, and only recently acted on it with the Stag. I actually think the TR6 suits you more than most of your current fleet. Just do it.
I could easy spend a three day weekend with Jay just having car conversations. While we would go off topic here and there, but always returning to the automobile. 😁

Alright well. It seems now "May and Jay" is a thing and we all need to support it!! They are getting better together and Jay's comments to May are gold.
I would be totally down for a show, maybe weekly or monthly, with those two driving a different car in Jay's Garage each week, sharing their knowledge and thoughts about it. It could also shift to May's place in England with his car collection. Heck, even these two just talking about cars on like a podcast could be great. That title is already perfect for either.

Thank you Mr. May. I truly enjoy listening to you talk to the human car encyclopedia and re-enlightening us to all the wonderful history of these cars. Walking past them in a museum makes me feel sad because they’re not being driven, but you’re driving and talking about them makes them live on like they should.
I am a musician and have a lot of guitars. James' question about "Do you have a TR-6?" reminds me of whenever someone comes over and asks "Do you have a Firebird?" or something similar, and I think a moment and say "Why yes, I have two!". Love that Jay has basically everything.
In the bicycle community there is a formula for how many bikes you should own, N+1 insurers you will always have enough.
I hate guitarists 🤮
The world seems ok when these two older guys get together. They are both classics!
Dr. Bim Slow and Jay Leno. Always a great conversation between those two.
Bim😂 Thanks for remembering me. I love rewatching those episodes over and over. Moments later, bob was dismembered.
I know James likes to joke about him thinking he's boring. However, conversations like this are refreshing, relaxing and just downright enjoyable and easy on the ears. Two folks you look at both being extremely popular in the entertainment business yet are honestly some of the best folks who are down to earth and extremely knowledgeable in their hobbies. James needs a revival car show where he just drives around with Jay Leno in all his cars
Why would you ever cut a single minute of these two chatting about cars or anything for that matter.

It feels like I'm quietly sitting in the back seat of my grandpa's extended cab truck listening to him and his friend talking about nothing particular important. I miss those days.
"Is that a compliment?"
"No."
"Right!" 😂
2 Legends!! More of this, please!! ❤️
Don‘t buy just fly 😂
Make your own, fairy.
Legends, In Cars, Getting Burgers.
@@michaeljordan6008I’m impressed you used the comma properly!! 👏 👏 😂😂
7:54 this shot... it looks like a toy car! hahaha
The Leno/May pairing can do no wrong. Wow! A tremendous film.
Fantastic choice James. Complete with the obligatory red line tires. My most admired Triumph. Thanks Jay.
Jay's lost a lot of weight and muscle. Sadly, he's looking much older than he did just one year ago. I hope he can keep going for a lot longer. He's done wonders for the classic car community world wide. We are all indebted to him.
Well, he’s said over the years that he hasn’t eaten breakfast since he was a teenager, he never eats vegetables, and never drinks hot liquids. That diet will affect your system as you age.
@@victorkong82 That four patty burger with nothing but meat and buns! Did he even put ketchup or mustard on that thing? Cracked me up.
its because hes using ozempic
Yes you are correct, I am surprised. Hope he's ok 👍
He's had to recover from a lot. He looks great.
5:02 such a great song for this opening scene
I genuinely need to see the full unedited version of this, James had me utterly gripped at the beginning Triumph lecture!
More of this please!
These two chaps together are amazing!
These two are just fantastic together.
Big smile on my face when you flashed the TR7 on the screen. I owned a 1978 TR7 when I was 20, for a couple years. Loved that car and wish I still had it. Aloha!
Two of my favorite car dorks. The world is a better place with both of them in it making content.
What a video…… cheek to cheek smiles. Bravo 👏🏼…..
I would never put my laptop lid down on you James! I would watch and listen to you doing absolutely anything at all.
WOW, super great!! This is gold~
Love the music and scenery. great gear heads enjoying some good driving, thanks!
the car knowledge between these 2 men could write an ENTIRE library
Wow, the nerdy chemistry between these two... brilliant!
Imagine a car show with Jay and James where they travel around the world trying out various cars and cruising famous routes. Nice and chill.
doesnt look like Jay will still travel much anymore
3:58 you can see the exact moment James sees the TR6, it ignited his inner child.
My dad had a TR8 and I LOVED it! I own a TR6 completely hopped up by Jay Leno's mechanic Bernard! (He was my mechanic before he worked for Jay!)
That was the best episode/video I have ever seen on this channel, and one of the best car videos ever! Two legends, just having a chat and some lunch and driving around a legendary car. Wonderful! 🤗😄👏🙌🙏🤴🤴✌🤘🖖
Can you imagine you're just driving in LA, and you come across Jay and May in a TR6... I would lose it.
Jay Leno was pulling out of the car park next to one of my favourite Mexican restaurants one day-in his vintage fire truck.
Jay and May could be a great title for a show about them. Just 2 guys driving in classics while reminiscing about their young days
If you listen carefully, a couple of people did.
2:30 - "8 minutes later" 😂 CLASSIC TG/TGT throwback.
Blasting “Praise You” was brilliant! I blast this at max volume tootoling around in my Smart car
It's quite sweet in a way that James still doesn't seem to grasp that the conversations he thinks people will find boring are the exact reason they want to listen to him.
Wonder-full, two gentlemen treating each other respectfully :)
That was a great little short right there. Jay,.. and May, riding up and down those So-Cal back mountain roads, in a British roadster, their silver locks blowing around,...Yeah, a couple of old codgers, having a go at it! That's what cruising around with your good buddy was really like.
James May is in my heart for being himself without excuses ! I love that sentimental thought.
Whenever you two are together, it's something special. Thank you Captain Slow!
Love to hear Praise You drifting in and out. Two old car lovers chatting! I have always loved MGs, Morgans, Triumphs and Austin Healeys. James, get yourself a TR6. Don't live with regrets.
Yes...I had MY British six, back in 1968...Austin-Healey, 100-six model. Something special about the exhaust notes coming from those straight six engines. I miss it...but would never, at my age now, want to own, or even drive one. The cars are unsafe to begin with...and all those "modern" SUVs, trucks, etc...would eventually crush ya like a grape!
The keys just fit so well
Man, I know it’s life, but I hate seeing Jay looking so old 😢 But these two are petrol-head soulmates. I could watch them all day.
Same thought I had! Wish them both and Jeremy and Richard a healthy life!
Yeah, he was aging very well until is three accidents: 1) burning 2) motorcycle 3) falling down a hill. After that he's never been the same.
@@AlanSmitheemanYeah, just one of them is enough to affect a young person, so the fact that he dealt with this and is still going is honestly a miracle
It is sad but it's the way it is, at least these two get to nerd out together in the later parts of life
My dad is 85, he had a 1958 Chevy impala convertible when he and mom first met. To this day he could tell you make and model on any car before probably 1980. I wish he could visit Jay’s garage, I think it would absolutely thrill him. Cheers
Where is your dad from?
Great Video!
For my recent 66th birthday I got myself my first ever sports car - a '24 MX-5. It is hands down the best vehicle I have ever owned and I don't see myself ever going back to anything else. The smiles per gallon are off the charts!!!
Seeing these two driving on those great roads with their hair blowing is exactly how I want to spend my later years. If you watched the video you know what I mean. I hope you all find your equivalent joys! 😎
I've been a daily MX5 driver for nearly 15 years now- got an NC in 2011, then bought a new 2L ND in 2015. I'm 48- so hopefully many more years of spirited B road driving nirvana ahead!
Jay and James agree with you. I stumbled on to a 1996 NA Miata 3 years ago. Its been a blast to fix up and its always ready for a fun cruise.
1:51. You two will never be boring.
Quite the _opposite_ of boring!
Your audience *loves* this stuff.
0:26 - ... "Is that a compliment?"
'No.'
"Right."
Fkng proper.😂😂😂
Leno & any UK Top Gear hosts is an instant watch. Great content. I thought James was going to ask if he could buy Leno’s at the end.
Leno would have been a good addition to the trio, except I don't think they could have gotten him to leave California, let alone built a car in Mongolia.
Solid burn by Jay at 0:30
Jay Leno saying that James can take his TR6 out any time he wants, just speaks to how respectful he is with cars. He clearly feels quite safe with James behind the wheel.
Compared to some of his other cars this one isn’t that valuable and is pretty normal. Some of his other stuff is complicated and weird to get going and drive. Then he has stuff like an F1 that’s about too valuable to drive anymore.
I would too, it's not like James is Richard Hammond 😂
Especially, if you watch his show, he seldom lets anyone drive one of his cars.
You don't need to cut out James' car talk, it's why we're here and it's why we love him
