Here's another test you can do, but you'll have to do it off camera. Rewind the tape all the way as far as it will go, then fast-forward it all the way as far as it will go, then rewind it one more time. This will further ensure the VCR is worthy of a listing on eBay. Some VCRs will fail to fast-forward or rewind a tape all the way but work fine on the other operations (forward scan search, rewind scan search, pause/still, slow/frame step, stop, eject) Another idea: after you insert a tape and start to play it, eject it immediately to make sure it doesn't "eat" the tape before you proceed with the operation test. (You don't have to though.) I still wouldn't buy this one because it's a Funai and it's a monaural non-Hi-Fi 4-head VCR.
I just spent the last couple hours today diagnosing this same issue on this model, it would take in the tape and start up, then power off. When powered on again it would eject the tape but leave it unspooled so I had to remove the cover to pull the tape out. I cleaned the head and such, but the issue was the intake spool wasn't spinning when playing causing the unit to shut off. I eventually figured it was the mode switch, which was a tad annoying to access, but it had oxidation on it. After rubbing it with some isopropyl alcohol and putting some dielectric grease on it the issue was fixed and it played tapes again.
I don't understand the point of these. It does not record to DVD, and there is no TV tuner. (You keep mentioning VCR Plus....lol....this was after the digital TV transition...THERE IS NO TV TUNER FOR VCR PLUS TO WORK.) You cannot record commercial DVDs to VCR. Literally who is this for, and why would anybody want to buy something that is obsolete like this?
7:18 The Open/Close button on the remote can eject the DVD drive AND the VCR's VHS tape depending on what function the unit is in.
