"Creating the Future through Understanding the Past"
As Kierkegaard wrote in his journal, life can only be understood backward, but it must be lived forward. This poignant existential truth takes on new, more complex meaning when we bring in astrology. Every act of astrological interpretation exerts a creative influence on the future: This is the great responsibility and challenge bestowed to every astrologer.
Richard Tarnas is professor of philosophy and psychology at the California Institute of Integral Studies, and is the author The Passion of the Western Mind, Prometheus the Awakener, and Cosmos and Psyche. He was awarded the 2020 Charles Harvey Award for Exceptional Service to Astrology.

Excellent information. Thank you!
In order to participate with the universe as you say, one has to have knowledge and broad world view which includes psychological principles which are a priori. There is the TAO philosophy or law of opposites as in Jungian compensation theory and synchronicity and the psychological cause and effect laws of karma. I mention this because I agree that scientists tend to not know how they think or how the Uranian scientific intuition works, and make science their one and only truth such as the theory of everything which is really only limited to physical cosmology and physical forces. It can't be theory of everything or universal. Also pathological individuals have a deficit in their world view and lack psychological knowledge which explains why the don't deal with Pluto transits to their Sun or Saturn very well, go berserk blow themselves up or go on shooting sprees. The universe has a veiled aspect to it which used to be considered magic which does not explain anything. The knowledge and meaning are the key into that veiled world.
I am not saying that there is no magic or anything supernatural. There is always the universal unknown and the knowledge of the future sometimes is still only a potential
Creation could be magic
Is it possible to understand the planetary archetypes, and their chords of meaning, without projecting onto them our own cherished belief systems, coloured by the media mainstream narratives, political & world views?
No because there is such a wide range of possibilities with combinations of archetypes, that we often miss or overlook the one that manifests. Also we have not exhausted the potential new meanings of what the combination of horoscope symbols represents since the archetypes are "multivalenced." There is great potential complexity. We can only know the unconscious through projection and since there is always more of it to go according to Jungian theory, the universal unknown will always be projected.
Also there always needs to be a hook to hang the projection onto and that could be anything material as well as ideological and from what I recall reading, the unconscious or anima makes the projections.
We also need our ideas which we can consciously idealize in a detached way. We also have to embody the archetypes and ideals and express them and there is no escape from that. Jung wrote that is how we strip them of their power, Jung MDR 1963
@@geoffreyah thanks for sharing this... has given me much to ponder on
❤
This man wrote a foreword to the book "Revisioning Transpersonal Theory A Participatory Vision of Human Spirituality" by Jorge N. Ferrer...
And what we see here?! Mr. Tarnas speaks about ASTROLOGY. Gosh...
Should we read the book..? Obviously not like a scientific text. It's quite discreditable.
Since when is transpersonal theory expected to imitate physical sciences? That expectation would be flawed.
