    It stars Liam Neeson (Taken, Star Wars , Les Miserables) as Oskar Schindler, Ralph Fiennes (The King's Man, Harry Potter, Skyfall) as Amon Göth, Ben Kingsley (Iron Man 3, The Jungle Book, Shang-Chi and the 10 rings) as Itzhak Stern.

    12:40 this is honestly quite an offensive thing to say - I'm quite confident in saying that the only thing that resembles your upbringing in a low income area to the Warsaw Ghetto is that they are both called "ghetto". To compare a US "ghetto" to the situation in early 1940s Poland is really quite disrespectful.

    • @robjaimes8830
      @robjaimes8830 Год назад +1

      She’s using the term broadly, and I understand what she meant. Ghettoizing people is still happening in other countries; it absolutely happened in the United States. There’s no denying it.

      @@robjaimes8830no, she's using the term to mean "low-cost housing." She wasn't living in an actual walled-off ghetto that she couldn't leave, as the Jews in Poland were forced to do. Yes, it still happens in other countries, and even in the US, but it did NOT happen to her.

    • @123giveit

      I would never presume to compare my upbringing to that of the warsaw ghetto I just simply meant that I grew up in a housing projects in which there are housing projects all over the world still to this day. I meant no disrespect. Thank you for expressing your opinion.

    The song the children are singing along to when they were rounded up in the trucks is called "Goodnight Mother" I don't know the exact lyrics but the gist is a little boy whom after his prayers, tells his mother goodnight and begs her to buy him two ponies. Through the verses, he first gets ponies made of marzipan (candy, basically), stuffed toy horses and carved wooden horses, all of which he complains that they aren't the kind of horses he wants. Then he grows up and comes home one day and there four fine black horses in front of his house and learn that his mother has died and the horses are pulling a hearse with her in it. Needless to say, those aren't the kind of horses he wanted either, and is now filled with regret. Honestly I'm not sure WHY that was supposed to be a kids song but then a lot of older children's songs are surprisingly dark. The other song, sung by a children's choir during the liquidation of the ghetto is about a rabbi teaching children the alphabet and one of the verses is particularly haunting: "When you grow older, children, you will understand by yourselves, how many tears lie in these letters, and how much lament."

    While making this movie, Spielberg wouldn't even communicate with the actors playing the Einsatzgruppen. These were actors of the German theater playing these parts. Spielberg would give them direction but he wouldn't make small talk with them as he couldn't get past the Schutzstaffel uniforms. That is until a beautiful thing happened very early in production. A Passover Seder was held at the hotel the cast and crew were staying. Spielberg had all the Jewish actors sitting around at a table, then all the German actors walked in wearing yarmulkes and participated in the rituals of the Passover Seder and Spielberg was moved to tears.

      There was no Einsatzgruppen in the Schindler's list. Liquidation of the ghetto was done by SS, SD and Orpo (Order police battalion). In Plaszow and later in Auschwitz there were guards who were part of SS TV or Death Head units. They managed concentration and extermination camps.

    Spielberg chose to film in black and white because he didn't want to shy away from the brutality the film depicts, but he also didn't what some of it to come across as gory. In B/W, you don't get the "gore" aspect quite as much but the emotional impact is still there since it's all up close and personal.
    This is different from his choice with "Saving Private Ryan" which was in color - although a bit de-saturated. There he wanted the red to be seen as it so often is in battle.

    Thanks for this reaction! The language you hear during the Sabbath (Shabbat) prayers is Hebrew, a language native to Isreal and commonly used in Jewish prayers and blessings around the world. Yiddish is another Jewish language, I think, used primarily by Eastern European Jews and their descendants. Great reaction Ava like always, everytime i watch this masterpiece of cinema i cry, its so emotional and touching. In case you are wondering or didn't know, the little girl in the red coat was based off a real person. In the film, the little girl is played by actress Oliwia Dabrowska, who-at the age of three-promised Spielberg that she would not watch the film until she was 18 years old. She allegedly watched the movie when she was 11, breaking her promise, and spent years rejecting the experience. Later, she told the Daily Mail, “I realized I had been part of something I could be proud of. Spielberg was right: I had to grow up to watch the film.” The actual girl in the red coat was named Roma Ligocka; a survivor of the Krakow ghetto, she was known amongst the Jews living there by her red winter coat. Ligocka, now a painter who lives in Germany, later wrote a biography about surviving the Holocaust called "The Girl in the Red Coat." That i suggest you to read. And some other facts about this movie is that, Spielberg refused to accept a salary for making the movie, Spielberg didn't want a movie star with Hollywood clout to portray Schindler. Kevin Costner and Mel Gibson auditioned for the role. Im subcribing to your channel, Keep up the good work.

      @@123giveit After watching this film, how can you love and laugh at this comment? I just need to understand the disconnect here. You seemed, while watching this film, to care about what was happening. But "ha ha" Amon Goeth was the greatest of all time? I'm so disappointed. This colors how I feel about your whole reaction. I guess, seeing how you feel about Goeth, that you probably won't care, but - - just wanted to share that anyway. Shit, I feel duped. Oh, well.

      @@jillk368 omg I misunderstood Amon for Schindlers Jewish business partner. I haven’t really used Goths first name only his last. It was an honest mistake

      @@123giveit Ohh. Okay. That makes a whole lot more sense. Thank you for getting back to me with this, it means a lot. I thought it was weird, because you did such a thoughtful reaction - - and then - - okay, got it. Yeah, I guess all the German names can be a bit confusing when watching this for the first time. Thank you again.
