Brando tried to play the Academy by sending a "Native American" woman to the Oscar's. This woman, Sacheen Little Feather, played Brando because she was NOT Native American. His whole point for sending her was to protest the treatment of Native peoples by the motion picture industry. One of Brando's complaints was that Hollywood often cast non-native actors as Native Americans in films, especially in lead roles. His choice to represent him in his protest backfired in spectacular fashion!! 😂😂😂😂😂
Not really. The point of the protest was cultural appropriation and exclusion. Using a Native American as a prop was secondary. At the time there was a liberal anti segregationist movement which was causing noise about this. You have to remember during this period of time Hollywood was very WASP, blaxploitation was in full swing, and Bruce Lee was the first Asian on film most folks had seen. Up until this point Hollywood has used lots of stereotypes to display Native people. Correct me if I'm wrong but Native people didn't have presence in films that were about them until the 1980s.

Soooo, if anyone is interested here's some info on her background and the controversy of her heritage... The articles I read said the White Mountain Apache tribe stated their was no record of ANYONE in her family, dead or alive, being enrolled. BOTH her sisters vehemently deny their family is of Native American decent and have stated they were disgusted by her saying she was. The found it "insulting" to both Native Americans and their parents. She (real name Maria Louise Cruz) also admitted herself that "Sachsen Littlefeather" was a name she came up with on her own after high school to "reflect her heritage". It was NOT a name bestowed upon her by any tribe. One sister said their father was of Mexican decent born in Oxnard California. This one lady did a massive deep dive and traced her father's family way back to the 1850's. The records she found consistently went back to Mexico. Marriage and baptismal records do NOT place his family near White Mountain Apache territory in Arizona. She looked at lots of other American records as far back as the 1880's and every family member she found, as well as those who her family members married, ALWAYS identified as white and Mexican on legal U.S. documents. NO ONE identified themselves as Native American. She also told stories of a tragic upbringing plagued by abuse at the hands of her alcoholic father and stated she grew up in abject poverty, living in a "shack". She even went as far as to say they didn't have a toilet for quite some time and recalled the day they finally got one because she "brought the neighborhood kids in and gave them a tour". One sister said that story infuriated her, that they did NOT grow up in a shack, and they did have a toilet, adding she has photos of the home. Her sisters also said their dad was not abusive, nor an alcoholic. His father was though, and they believe their sister took their dad's upbringing and adopted it as her own. So taking all that into account, I'm inclined to believe her sisters. As well as the woman who did EXTENSIVE research on her family. Mexicans are usually three races, Spaniard, Native or Mestizo (Mixed race) Hispanic is a word that means of Spanish descent. Sadly for many years Mexicans have denied their native ancestry because of racism towards the native people in Mexico. Use that same logic and tlak about Trump. If you sooooo mad about Marlon Brando and that lady......🤣🤣

I did some digging and quite a few people have attempted to trace her Native American linage to no avail. She claimed to be Yaqui and White Mountain Apache on her father's side. It sounds like she adopted this false persona to make herself feel more unique and to stand out as an actress. Very disturbing. I'll NEVER understand why people feel the need to lie about their ancestry. We are who we are, nothing we can do about our genes. And I agree with her sisters, her behavior is insulting to actual Native Americans. She literally made a whole career off of a lie. She could have just said "I care very deeply about Native American issues and I want to be an ally and an advocate for them". Done. No lies necessary.

I live in South Dakota near the Lakota Sioux native people. When I was younger the natives and the white people co-existed together more peacefully. They helped each other ranch and farm in and around the reservation. Then Mr Brando shows up in the early 70's and helped convince the native people that whites were not their friends and in fact were their enemies. Not long after that the American Indian Movement formed and rioted in Sioux Falls SD. Since then the relationship has been very antagonistic. Liberal people like Mr Brando do far more harm than good. It would be nice if liberals like him, Leonardo DiCaprio, and many others would mind their own business and keep their opinions to themselves. @Hello-uk5xp Yes, they are all the same. The Inca, Mayan, Aztec, Navajo, Cherokee, Eskimo, Mohawk, just to name some of the most popular tribes. They all come from the same people. Some of them stayed up north, and the rest continued South and created all the great empires that we heard about in school. Besides, the majority of native Americans have the same facial features. Their religious beliefs have a lot of similarities as well. I don't understand why people try to discredit any Native Americans south of the Rio Grand.
Some Polynesian people made it to South America over 1600 years ago, but that's a whole different story. If you have time, look into the Easter Islands.
It would have been some seriously glorious karma if everyone in the audience booed her much, MUCH more.
Why? She absolutely lied but what you're talking about would imply booing her message rather than her. Who cares about her, from what I've read in tel past like 5 minutes she did good. Her cause was solid even if she sucked as a person apparently
Yes her message shouldn’t be booed even if she was faking it
@@Patrick3183 of course it should. She didn't give a shit about any cause. And TBH, the native American outrage is foolish rubbish from low IQ uneducated minds. By their OWN logic, any human being should be allowed to live anywhere on earth because WE are just as natural as the land itself. The native American outrage is just racist nonsense.
Maybe she was the only one that was willing to do it. And he didn't wanted to missed that shot

When really they're 1/8th black and the rest Midwestern German.
