Great review Aliex . You always give an honest, unbiased opinion. Will you be reviewing the Xi3 model of this Kayak, hope Kevin sells a ton of these. Looks very impressive and the seat height and layout looks perfect for fishing.
I bet he doesn’t do it. If he does I bet his mind changes between this with xi or OT120 ipilot . Still I bet he doesn’t do the xi3 video with is yak (Zulu) . He will say he will but we’ve heard that b4!
I just had my first issue from my pa12-360 sense I've owned it. I had a drive issue with 6 cylinder bearings falling out. Drive still works but obviously gonna become a major issue! I've had it just over 2.5 years now & I fish a lot, 2 days a week 12 months out of the year & am hard on my gear. This happened Sunday. I reached out to my dealer Monday morning. By Tuesday at lunchtime, Hobie had already approved my warranty claim & sent me a tracking number with a new 360 drive already in shipping process. Very quick response time on thier end! The guys at Strictly Sail & Kayak in Cincinnati Ohio are also awesome! Even though I've moved down to southern SC 2 years ago, they still took care of me & I never had to ever go anywhere. Just a phone call & a email. I do need to hook up with a new dealer down here so I have someone I can drive to quickly. I'm curious to see what all will come this year in kayak fishing world. It's grown so much sense I started in 2014!
I have a Zulu and you can tell what Kevin’s priorities were, on the water the kayak is great. I have the xi3 and even with batteries, motor, and gear it paddles well. The downside is definitely dealing with the boat out of the water, the handles just have a cheap feel to them and are oddly placed. I would love to see a new model with some minor changes. That would make me consider selling mine and buying a new one.
The first thing I did when I got my Zulu , was ripped those velcro straps off of the pedals. No reason for them! Kevin is a super nice guy, and a good fisherman. And that's what makes his kayaks so good. Is he designed them based on being a fisherman in Florida! They are made for fishing! I like standing but I also like sitting on the top of the seat.
I have always wanted a kaku, I remember the 1st generation being sold at the half hitch in pc a long time ago. They have come a long way. I just can’t get a kayak that isn’t made for some rapids now and then. Cool boat though.
Watching you do this kayak remind me of the feel free Dorado I owned or the big fish three Waters... you have your stability but you lose some of your Mobility. I still love my Pelican 130, I just wish they would change a few things! But the fact that it's light and stable enough it is my go to kayak most of the time. I think this kayak would shine more in like a river or the ocean! But as usual another great video!
Kevin has since added the small plastic piece to on top of the mount to further secure the pedal drive. Mine didn’t have that. Anyway. Hope you enjoy it.
see thats whay i was asking, because this one felt solid, i mean it still moves, like any pdl drive, even the hobies, but this one didnt pop out, that was i was afraid off
There is one huge advantage this has over my AP120 that I doubt even Kevin doesn’t realize. Thats the size of the opening where the motor goes through the hull, it’s much larger and would make lifting the motor to clear weeds from the prop and shaft. It’s nearly impossible to do that with the AP120 with even a modest amount of weeds. Often you have to put the kayak back on the trailer to just clear the weeds. I fish small weed chocked lakes in Ohio. I ended up taking the AP down to my daughters in Tarpon Springs and put an Xi3 on the bow of my 106 MK. I think this Voodo with the awesome seat and Xi3 setup is better than the AP120
thats always the problem with these do it all kayaks, but this one so far look feels like it is up to the challege, very similar drive not sure if it fits the native
No I haven't tried any of inflatables. I've actually only ever been in Hobies for pedal drive kayaks. I've had PA12 then the 360 & my inlaws have a pa14 & outback. I would like to test out other brands just to check them out & try prop styles. I assume the mirage drives allows for shallower water than a prop styles. What is your opinion of haul quality on Linux & Passport?
Hi Aliex, I’m trying to decide between this Kaku Zulu with pedal drive and Wilderness system Recon HD…..which one do you like better for inshore fishing? And why? Always a big fan & thanks!!
Recon will have stronger secundary stability, primary they are about the same, Kaku seat wins! lol why you can sit up high and see fish, if you are going to be fishing a lot of shallow water stand up fishing, Zulu wins it was designed for that. When it comes to the drive, i think the recon has an edge, it was designed with it in mind. For me it comes down to how im going to use it, if i fish a lot of shallow, grassy waters and i have to paddle a good amount of the time, i will get the zulu, specially if i want to add a xi3 or autoboat to it. If it is always deep and I will mainly use the drive, the recon could be a better option. Zulu also is less heavy.
Can u review the lightning kick 106 ? I saw that u have only gone over the strike and the nomad a while ago but there is another version that is possibly the best out of all of them :)
What is the lightest pedal drive kayak you know of? I'm considering getting a second kayak for extra hard places to get. Areas I have to carry it into. I've had 2 Hobie PA12S past 10 yrs, the PA12-360 last 2.5 of them. Which I love my kayak & I use cart to wheel it to pretty hard to get areas. But there's some places I've recently found that I would have to cut a path all way to water or carry a light kayak. Still want a pedal drive & open to any brands. Something ultra light with pedal drive
Hobie passports are light, the lynx is also light, have you an inflatable pedal drive ? Vibe is bringing one soon, fits in a bag, you also have the itrek
@@AliexFolgueira it looks cool but I'm concerned about warranty and the seat folds up and peddles and leaves a massive indent so you either stand in 22 in wide 6 in deep hole or wide stand 32in on the sides and seat looks hard but cool idea of it folding up like a big cooler I think I'm going to go with a Jackson bite fd but limited track mounting and usable space to mount track has me holding off a bit
Totally changed my mind, first let me bring Aliex back to 2024-ITS ALL ABOUT MOTORS NOW. U know that! Can’t wait 2 see u using this yak with XI and 4.5 hp outboard. This yak with a Xi is better than buying “oldtown” name brand ipilot 120 .u won’t admit that Aliex and I get it, they sponsor u. Thank u 4 changing my mind on what yak 2 get . I’m getting a base 1 of these and build my own!
wtf? what?????????????? what are you saying? lol two very different boats, my favorite is still the autopilot! 100% but i aint taking teh autopilot fishing when it is shallow i will take this for sure. Also autopilot is like 150 pounds, like sometimes you dont wanna mess with that. If you watch the vidoe you will see IT IS ALL ABOUT MOTORS!

@greghidalgo3521 i like both haha, if you get the zulu please buy it thru my affiliate link, i do get a commission, it is mosthly how we get pay. I think Kevin just got a fresh order of zulus in, shipping is not expensive at all.
@63 the yakattack bunkster fits inside the front hatch on the zulu (broken down) . For the rear hatch, the wheels would not go thru, if you do buy please use my affiliate link (amazon) amzn.to/3wx2Fud
Please show video of you fishing from this kayak. You sit super high on this one, and you are visibly grabbing the seat for stability, this doesn't seem as hands free as a Hobie or Old Town. Also this drive will not last, the amount of flex that you are getting in that drive is a result of you sitting and contacting the drive so high, eventually in rough water with heavy use it will break. And it will happen at the base of the drive where it rotates up and it has those C clamp connection is my bet.
that drive is a tank, it is like the natives, so the drive itself won't break that easily. The mechanism that holds it it is very strong, solid. All these drives moves when you pedal hard, see the native titan x move side to side when you pedal sorry not the best angle ruclips.net/video/KIdLn18xk2s/видео.htmlsi=fPOGoyjmnmTty1nF&t=209
200 pounds? Yep u got to stay away from the frigerator. Put a treadmill in your office. lol Kevin did say he likes to put real weight in his boats to test them.....
I was 229 through my thirtys and then I hit forty and I couldn't lose weight to save my life. When the metabo changes it's really hard. They I got in a motorcycle wreck and with surgeries and such it was a big problem. Now if I don't use the keto diet I can't lose anything.@@AliexFolgueira

i only take my 120p were it is deep and not super grassy if im going to areas full off grass or stuff ill take something else

They have the Zulu I-Guide, similar to the AP120
Where do you mount the transducer for your fishfinder?
Over the side on a transducer arm if going with pedal drive or I guide. If paddling or motor off back can use pedal drive pod

Stay close to land and away fro boat traffic you would be good
@AliexFolgueira thank you, would you prefer the zulu or the oldtown pdl 120 as a first fishing kayak?
just as a pdl kayak, the old town 120, but if you wanna add an xi3 gps motor unit, or wanna switch between a paddle kayak and a pedal kayak the zulu.
How’s the seat? It doesn’t look comfortable
seat is comfy if you are too heavy add a kayak kushion
