What do you think about the new Kindle Paperwhite? Were you hoping for more upgrades, or do you think the changes are enough? Let me know in the comments!
This was hands down the best review/comparison of the kindle generations so far. Concise and straightforward. Thanks. Think I’ll stick with my 11th gen. I prefer the warm to bluer colour slide. The new one doesn’t seem to change much.
Thanks bro, I bought a 11th gen a week ago, after 3 days amazon release a new kindle. Thanks for acknowledging that it is not a big upgrade between 11 to 12.
Me too! I bought the 11th gen SE two weeks ago, after the disappointing Prime Day... but I bought 2nd hand, practically like new, and saving 60 euro. That's another thing to consider when you want to buy an eReader ;)
I have the 10th gen and I love it. Just replaced the battery a few weeks ago (it was a slightly painful process.) I love the small form factor and never complained that the screen size was too small. My only complaint with ALL of these is the position of the power button. I wish they would have placed it on the top or made it more recessed. I would constantly press it (by accident). I have also noticed that the Kindle Paperwhite, like most things over the years, have gotten bigger. Cars, cell phones, laptops, etc. I’ll keep my 10th gen for as long as it works.
I have a tenth generation too (2018 version isn't it?). The button placement is so bloody annoying. I like to rest it on my covers when laying in bed and it it keeps accidentally shutting down. The screen does feel a tad small, but I don't think newer ones add anything substantial to it. I'm surprised that newer kindles don't update the resolution though. Whilst 300ppi isn't bad, I have noticed more the sharpness and less softness in my S23 Ultra, which is about 500ppi on an OLED screen - an absolute joy to read content on for short periods. With new kindles still at 300ppi, my current one doesn't really feel left behind at all in the Kindle family. One further thing I noticed that's preventing me considering upgrading is the lack of mobile connectivity. I feel I can take my Kindle anywhere and not miss anything, whilst the newer kindles seem to be WiFi only, which seems a downgrade.
I didn’t need to upgrade from an 11 gen, but I am happy (four days in) that I did. The upgrades/ improvements aren’t vast, but they are noticeable - and appreciated. My only disappointment was realizing the location of the power button has stayed the same; so far I haven’t inadvertently restarted it while using it. We’ll see how that holds up.
I've got one i bought in 2014 that still works as well as it did when I bought it. I did put a new battery in it a few years back. But for reading i use my Oasis 10 Gen, I was hoping they were going to update it but instead they discontinued it. I love my Oasis and won't be getting any of the new ones.
As a Paperwhite 11th gen owner, I find the speed increase negligible. Yes faster is better when when it comes to page turning, do we really need that tiny speed upgrade? Its just a microsecond of a difference . The speed in the store is more noticeable but I rarely go to the store anyway. I might buy the new Kindle Basic just because of it new matcha color.
I like that the Amazon Kindle has a small screen. It’s easy to carry and hold. Why does the screen size increase with each upgraded model? by the way great video 🤩
Very solid review. Much common sense. I've pretty much given up on my two Paperwhites (7th gen and 11th gen), though, since I acquired a Scribe a few months ago. Now that is a game changer as far as I'm concerned. I love the large screen and the faster speed. It really is snappy. However, the note-taking features are of no interest to me. I much prefer to use an iPad or laptop for that.
This was a GREAT revue. The 12th gen, to me, side by side in my hand, is just more responsive than the other. That's it. Size difference is not noticeable. Is it worth the upgrade to me...meh. I have gotten frustrated with lag or the lack of responsiveness on my 11th many times, but...meh. I also ordered the kobo libra colour. This was a worthy upgrade. I DO see ghosting every now and then on the kobo that I never got on the kindle. I do enjoy seeing a COLOR book cover on front page, I LOVE seeing the book covers in color on the main page, and the VERY clean UI of Kobo that isn't always trying to sell me stuff, UNLESS I go to that tab is great.
Hi, if this is going to be my first Kindle Paperwhite, which one do you recommend I buy, the 11th generation or the 12th generation?😊 Which one is more worth it? Because for me the differences in screen and page turning speed are important.
Hey there, if it's your first Kindle and you want to buy a brand new one, I'd recommend going with 12th gen. Currently, there's a 19% black Friday discount so great deal + you can return it until end of Jan 2025 if you didn't like it. I have an 11th gen and I absolutely hate the soft-touch plastic. You noted that it's a fingerprint magnet. What you didn't mention is that it's nearly impossible to keep clean. I have an Apple Magic Keyboard case for my iPad with a similar material and while it can get a bit messy, it cleans really easily. The high-end 12th gen Kindle has a "metallic" case. I was hoping you would comment on that, but my guess is you got the next level down. I'm upgrading with the hope that it is less of a fingerprint magnet and easier to keep clean. I'll enjoy the extra speed. Not a major reason to upgrade but it works for me.
One question. I am using the 10th gen paperwhite and the glass looks realistically closer to screen giving more paper like feel. How is it with the 11th or 12th gen?
Does the 12th gen have the same problem of getting accidentally turned on/restarted when you prop it up against a wall or something? My 10th gen's power button location _really_ annoys me because I read it both in the portrait position in the day and the landscape orientation at night when I'm lying on the side so no-matter how I set the text, at least one of them always hits the power button and turns off the display
May I ask what your thoughts are in regards to the new basic kindle as a spare reader? I have the paperwhite 11th gen I bought last year and don’t think I will upgrade to the 12th gen, however I kinda like the idea of having the smaller kindle for work or maybe travel and keeping the paperwhite for home. Or am I being silly?
@@howtotechstuff Really? I read the contrary, and lots of people are complaining about it! That's why I am wary about upgrading my basic 8th gen Kindle :)
Tested it right now with Kindle 11th gen (basic "matcha") and new Paperwhite 12th gen and can confirm the following: 1) on MAC: both devices don't show up as hard drives but Calibre app recognises them and allows me to sideload books no problem 2) on Windows: both devices show up as hard drives and allow me to drag&drop books into the documents folder. 3) when going to "manage your content and devices" within the Amazon website, I'm unable to "download & transfer via USB" for the above devices. These devices don't appear on the list. Hope this helps! Maybe I need to release a video mentioning this. Thanks for pointing it out 👍
Definitely not worth the upgrade at this time if you have an 11th gen version. I also have the scribe but it is too big and unweildy for reading so I use it exclusively for work notes. Not impressed with the colorsoft either. The Kobo Libra Color has a stylus and allows you to write directly on the books.
Hey Chloe, if you need it just for reading; I think 12th gen is perfect. If you think you need note taking, a bigger screen (but heavier, may not be comfortable to hold it for multiple hours) that would allow you to read PDFs more comfortably; Scribe would be my choice then. Hope this helps!

@@albertocordeddu7676 Same here. 😊
Just return it
Return it and get the new one. Especially if it is your first kindle

My 12-year-old first generation Kindle Paperwhite works just fine, thanks.
I think this was the most honest review of the New 2024 kindles so far great job.
Thank you.
What a fantastic comparisment! I got the 11 second hand after watching your review.
🎉
Helpful review. Thank you.
You're welcome 🤗
Very good comparison. Thank you.
Clear, concise comparison. I’ll stick to my 11th generation version.

I'm planning on keeping my 10th gen for a bit longer before I swap to a Kobo Libra
Thanks 😌 I need this comparison 😃
Glad I could help!
Good analysis! Thanks!
Me watching this review while (almost)happily reading on my 6th Gen Paperwhite.
I am happy with my 6th Gen Paperwhite.

Thanks for the video. One thing to note is that the 10th gen is also waterproof.
You're totally correct. I think I provided incorrect info towards the end of the video. Thanks for pointing it out.
I like that the Amazon Kindle has a small screen. It’s easy to carry and hold. Why does the screen size increase with each upgraded model?
by the way great video 🤩
When i start to read immersively, i forget about which kindle i am reading.Even a kindle of several generation old is still relevant.
Yes i still use mine i bought at 2016, its screen just got cracked though so im looking for a replacement
Good advice, thank you!

Still rocking the 10th gen. Don’t really feel the need to upgrade
Dank yu, Hans and Franz.❤
I think the oasis still is the most comfortable for reading

I like the slightly yellowish of the new ppw. It looks more natural I think.
Amazing review ❤

how funny this popped up on my feed literally an hour after I traded in my 10th gen for the 12th Signature.
Congrats on your new purchase!
can you please show some comics on the 12? can you zoom in? how is the interface? I'm considering one for my kids
Gracias fue muy útil❤
im on a 11th gen standard PW. Im upgradint to the 12th gen PW Signature Edition.
Why?
What would you say about the battery life from the 10th gen vs 12th gen?
Can this new Kindle paperwhite connect to a PC to upload ebooks?
Yes, same as previous models.

12th gen paperwhite has screen uniformity issues, similar to the colorsoft.
Se ve mejor la pantalla del 11th, más blanco el fondo.
I never had a 10th gen, but I heard it was awful.
I have a 10th gen, and I love it.
My 10th gen still works very well. Just the power button cracked a bit because i didn't use a magnetic case.
I don’t think so, haha. I’m happy with my 10th gen, 5 years and still going strong.
How discouraging this yellowish screen is... the device is called "paperwhite" and it is yellowish!
