  • In this video, I solve one of the simplest PDE: the transport equation, simply by rewriting it as a directional derivative and ‘integrating’ it. Then I also solve the inhomogeneous transport equation.

    Very nice and interesting video!
    I have only learnt to solve these sort of equations by fourier transform but seeing it done this way is also really nice!

    I always love when you make new videos. The content is excellent, and I’m learning so much from you. I can’t wait to see what other PDE’s you bring into this series (no pun intended)

    Whoa, wait for old fuddy duddies used to curly d's and del signs! In the "olden days" we solved such PDE's by separation of variables or some such. Are you saying that by merely writing a PDE in a different way it becomes an ODE? Wow!

    Can someone explain how 10:20 proves that the value of U along the line is 0?

    • @selvarajp1703
      @selvarajp1703 4 года назад +1

      Dear friend, U is not zero along the line. The directional derivative of U along the line is zero. First, see our considered pde u_t+bu_x=0; actually we want to find the solution to this equation. So, by the consideration of the system, he wrote zero. Then he said derivative of z(s)=0 then z(s) should be a constant. Friend, I hope you understand now...
