There are few bigger pop stars in the world right now than classically trained flautist-turned-singer, Lizzo. Her fans love her not just for her music but also for how candid she is. As she says, she’s unapologetically a big, black beautiful woman.
But a few days ago, the entertainment world was shocked when the artist was accused of gross hypocrisy. Three of Lizzo’s former back up dancers announced they’re suing her, claiming they were body-shamed and sexually harassed. Lizzo has vehemently denied any wrongdoing, meaning a court will probably determine the veracity of the allegations.
Just before this controversy blew up, Tom Steinfort was given an exclusive glimpse behind the scenes of Lizzo’s Australian tour.

Do we think the same courtesy would have been granted to a male artist with these accusations? Or do we think they'd be interviewing people that have worked with her in the past?

Yes, that creator you refer to is a black woman who is a director. I cannot remember her name but remember what she said about Lizzo. She said at first she thought "this couldn't be happening" (referring to shitty way Lizzo was treating her), but when the disrespect & abuse kept on, she said she had to leave that job after 2 weeks for her sanity. And yes, I believe every single person that has walked out on a ledge to reveal their not-so-good experiences and outright abuse from Lizzo.
I never really cared for Lizzo. There was something that was too much "in your face" about her to me. Now I realize that "in your face" stuff was just your basic NARCISSIST operating business as usual. So, although everyone seems a bit taken aback about these revelations, there WAS "leakage" of who & what she is prior to this...although it wasn't overt. I always pay attention to that still, small voice inside that whispers to me. It's really saved my ass in the past.

It is NOT easy to come out & reveal mistreatment/abuse from an employer who is famous & beloved by many. I compare it to a woman who has been raped & makes the brave decision to go to the police & pursue prosecution of the rapist. I know this seems weird me bringing up reporting a rapist, but if you think about it there are many parallels. 1) people will say you're a liar, 2) people will question your motives, 3) people will then look into your past & try to tear you apart, 4) the person who's been accused will then say you're a liar & accuse you of ulterior motives. Again, to come out & tell the truth many times is not for the faint of heart. It's a treacherous process. There really is no "upside" for doing this, other than shining a light on evil. Yes, there's a lawsuit, but the victims will not be getting rich. IF they win the lawsuit it'll be about recompensation, basically. This is not a get rich quick scheme by a long shot.

Lizzo is the perfect example of a celebrity who, after experiencing a bit of fame, let it get to her head and changed her attitude. I still believe that Lizzo is a very kind person, but as she grew up and made a name for herself in the industry, she allowed fame to consume her. That's what fame does to a person; it can wreak havoc on your life by turning you into a different, less pleasant person.

    • @nichobee
      @nichobee 9 месяцев назад +1

But that's where people get it wrong about fame and power. Fame doesn't really make you a bad person, it just means you were toxic to begin with, and before fame you had an incentive to 'play nice'. These people are drawn to fame because they are narcissists. Narcissists need attention and validation and there's no better way to get that than being famous. They were never great people to begin with. You know all those ridiculous demands you hear artists make when on tour? E.g. lavender scented toilet paper and the air con set exactly to 18.88 degrees. That's just narcissism.

Eating yourself to the grave…most wouldn’t consider it an act of ‘self love’. And it’s not a matter or morbid obesity being considered aesthetically ‘beautiful’ it’s about health. Prioritizing health. Idk why the conversation keeps turning morbid obesity into like ‘radical act of self love’ or ‘beauty’. The issue is health…and all the leading causes of death a result of obesity. We’re taking deaths that surpass cancer. No one is preaching how everyone should could consider cancer ‘’beautiful’’ because it’s irrelevant- it’s about health. Living. Not dying. The whole fatphobic stuff is something I see more often than not being used as a denial and dodge from the responsibility of ones own health. I’ve had two times where my weight rose right short of morbid obesity…and let me tell you…there was zero self love during that time. My weight gain was an outward picture that reflected just a fraction of what I was going through internally. No one happy is consuming food to the point of death. No one is happy when they’re so obese they can’t see their feet or barely wipe their own ass. I mean the work and stress her heart is undoubtedly under at that weight is dangerous…and that’s just one impact of obesity. Idk why people interpret those facts as insults with cruel intentions. Like, it’s how the body works - sorry, but like, I don’t control science/biology.

beautiful and confident yet is the most vicious and insecure. Once she got the audience and validation she wanted the REAL INNER Lizzo
came out and she thought she couldn't be touched. Time for celebs to be dethroned.

WOW never heard anyone make a record sound like an instrument of beauty, never heard her music but is funnier then most female comedians I watch all the time, just quick witted and has that natural humility and humor you get from tough times you laugh or you cry, seems like an amazing woman, just worry she's 36 and her wieght it's great body positivity, but also a health crisis I know cause I bounce regularly from 170 to well near 400, depending on medications and my disease, now on a downswing again, changing near nothing at 47 where it's harder to loose my body is like a science fiction movie ;) Hope she is healthy enough to entertain as long as Tina Turner did, loosing just a little could extend her influence for many yers hate to see young stars who burn bright but short :(

I really can't understand singers or celebrities who advocate that it's okay to be overweight. Being overweight is not okay, and it will never be okay. You don't need to be overweight to feel empowered! There are many underlying health issues that can result from being overweight. There's nothing positive about being obese, so advocating for body positivity among the overweight is pointless. Instead, the focus should be on how to maintain a healthy body weight and eat nutritiously.

I feel that the body shaming could have been the result of because she is big and at first wanting to have big women dancers but her ego has become too big that she doesn’t want her dancers over shadowing herself and her size because it’s all about her self wanting to stand out so now wanting her dancers to lose weight so that she has all eyes on her, I have heard about the other woman saying what she made them do is sickening if true and I obviously don’t know this lizzo or heard her sing so I don’t know much about her but I cannot see a few dancers lie just for the hell of it especially when it’s really that bad it’s not something that 1 person said but a few If it was one maybe but even so to explain very minute things that is exstreamy detailed is not something that you would hear about if it was not true there’s to much depth to it and definitely feel that there’s some truth to it ,

Why is it that the backup dancer who won the backup dancing competition are the ones suing her after she fired them. Is it because they might not find a job in the industry once you get fired like that.

Again. In America. Its innocent until proven guilty. To see the way everyone has turned their back on her immediately makes me sick. I support the dancers bringing on the lawsuit just as I support Lizzo. None of us know the truth yet. Remember Michael and what he went through? Let's not make judgments until both sides of the stories are told.

I would love to see in concert Kenny G ( my favorite jazz, flute playing man) & Lizzo duet on a dance tune & romantic tune. I'm 56 yrs old & have only been to one concert, Keith Sweat first concert (don't laugh 😅). I have Lupus, fibromyalgia & Erosive Osteoarthritis alone with extreme depression but I'd do my best to try & see them together. Lizzo, I'm so proud of you! My mother (RIP) was always large, but it didn't stop her from dressing her butt off & being beautiful. And you've inspired me to stand strong in my Self-Authenticity as an Ordained Minister (I get alienated because of my [faith] in my Jesus). You're a [true] inspiration.

If you ever get to go to a Garth Brooks concert, you'd love it and would leave there feeling great! You will never forget a Garth Brooks concert. I hope you get to one soon...

It looks like it could be time for Lizzo to “face the music.” This is a very bad (and shocking) time, especially with her coming off the end of her 2022-23 Special Tour. Nobody knows how this will play out in court, so we can only wait and find out.
