That is the old horror problem: there are many effective premises working perfectly as shorts, but once they have to run for 90 minutes and get integrated into reality, they don't hold up. This is perfect as a short - in fact I think it works exceptionally well as such.
The idea that the creature can ONLY be seen in the water is such a good metaphore for the fear of the ocean/large bodies of water. While on land you cant see anything, but the fear is still there, eating at you, weighing you down. Only to find it gets much worse when you enter the water
This perfectly taps into that childhood fear of “what if there’s a shark in the pool” but this takes it to a whole new level of creepy! The suspense was agonizing at times and it was so perfectly executed!! Beautifully shot, and the pacing is perfect! AMAZING JOB!! I enjoyed it so much! This needs more attention!
It's a fantastic film you achieved here and it's kind of ridiculously sad to see night swim getting credit but your film is absolutely deserving of millions of views and a movie deal
I watched this on recommendation from a guy on tiktok (hauntingseason) and this short gave me the MOST anxiety in the best way. I'm not usually a huge fan of short films but this was extremely well done and I don't think I'll be swimming in a pool any time soon without thinking about it. 10/10!
This could be a another way to represent drowning. Most of the time people drown cause they swim alone or don't tell anyone where they are going. Did you notice how there was no one around not even a house and how something came out of the pool and knocked him back in? This shows that the unexpected things can happen to someone at pools if people aren't careful or paying attention. Kid didn't even get a chance to scream. Well done I actually relate to this cause that is how I feel when ever I go swimming in a big open body of water like a qurray. I look under water and when I see but pitch darkness staring back at me it takes all my will and strength not have a panic attack cause my mind instantly starts thinking something is going to come up and pull me down. It is a terrifying fear to have.
@@funneimemeguyyo same. I sometimes used to think to myself, “What if I jump in a pool but when I surface I’m in the deep ocean?” Just a what if question, but still scared me.
Dude, congrats. This was such a beautiful, well crafted horror experience. From the shots, to the color, the editing, everything was awesome. I love it
I LOVE that in the final establishing shot you see the chair and table put back as usual as if nothing happened. Just a subtle thing that really adds to the eeriness.
I have been diagnosed with Thalassophobia and this is the type of shit that goes through my head when I’m swimming in lake, ponds, lakes, and rivers I’ve never touched a ocean and I don’t plan to good Job demonstrating what it feels like to have Thalassophobia 10/10 🤩
The scary thing is, the kid was genre savvy enough to recognize the danger when it first made itself known. When he lost his glasses, he went for a pool net rather than risk diving back in. The problem was... Whatever that THING was, it wasnt limited to the water.
People were mentioning this video in the comments for the new Night Swim trailer, and I had to check it out. I wasn't fully into the movie trailer, but this short film is rad! Very well done. Tense, beautiful to look at (all those colors!) And I can appreciate the horror of a creepy ass monster with a big ass mouth. Plus, with summers like we get these days, I can't completely blame the kid for being tempted by that pool. Great work! I do wonder, is the Blumhouse film affiliated with this short, or are people making that up? Edit: Nevermind! I see now that people were getting this one mixed up with the one the film was actually based on. Between you and me, I vastly prefer Deep End. Excellent work to everyone involved in this!
If you like stories like this, I’d recommend checking out the short story of the same name “The deep end” by Robert McCammon. They’re completely different but they both involve a malicious creature stalking a swimming pool.
This is the sort of thing M.R. James would have made if he'd been a movie maker. Seriously, this is like "Wailing Well" but with the creep factor dialed way up. Oh, and for what it's worth, I discovered this through the ad you placed here on RUclips.
I once had a nightmare similar, walked into a small stream, maybe ankle deep, “fell in” and when I swam back to the top, I was in a vast ocean during a hurricane. Absolutely terrified me
Incredible! I loved The Boggy Man, absolutely the stuff of nightmares. Great underwater scenes too! This one is going straight in the "Creepy Video Abyss" playlist.
I think, even with the monster, this shows off so well how dangerous swimming can be and how often people can drown, especially kids. All my life my aunt made me and my cousins wear life jackets and always had someone watching us when we swam. I just thought she was a control freak. She recently passed due to cancer. Her two younger brothers both gave speeches about her at her funeral. I knew my aunt’s dad died when she was little, but it turns out that only about 3 months after her dads death, her oldest brother drowned and no one knew. Apparently he went to a summer camp or something (probably around late 70s early 80s) and he went out swimming with all the other kids. Then, at the end of the day when they did a head count, he was missing. He passed away leaving my aunt as the oldest kid and with a single mom when she was only 12. I’m thankful that my aunt was the way she was. I couldn’t imagine what life would be if that were to happen to one of my cousins or my siblings. People, from what I’ve seen, often don’t think drowning is a big deal, that it’s not common. But it most certainly is. This was a wonderful short film.
Excellently done. Just one nitpick. On a day where it's supposedly so hot that a kid is willing to trespass in a swimming pool to keep cool, he wasn't even sweating in the least.
At first I questioned why the creature took so long so go in for the kid, then at the end I noticed that the creature had fixed the table and chair and hid the kids stuff, that’s what scared me the lost tbh
This is great! I used to swim at a local pool with a wave machine and at the bottom of the deepens was a huge row of bars like a grate that the waves were generated from and I was convinced they kept something in there, it was darker at that end of the pool too!!
My stomach just dropped when he jumped into the pool for the first time. That was such a great effect! Perhaps the ominous music kicks in a little too soon (we don't really have a reason to be afraid of the swimming pool as he approaches it), but the kid is adorable and sells it well. Great job!
I’ve never had thallasophobia despite the irrational fear of a shark being in the deep end of a pool when I was like 6 but this was brilliant and definitely made me double think for a moment about going on a snorkel holiday next year! Super well done and super creepy, wonderful metaphor and so refreshing seeing a character use their thinking in a horror movie! Will definitely be looking more into your works, bravo 👏🏻
Beside being so absolutely brilliant, the only thing I would have changed was showing the creature at the end. I feel it would have left me more in the dark questioning what was that if I didn't saw a jumpscare scene. ✌️
The moment the kid realized his glasses fell in was very relatable as a functionally blind kid who knew better than to roll up back home saying "i lost my glasses I need new ones" to my parents. 😅
I saw a guy recommended this on TikTok. That was amazing and really creepy!

That was brilliant. Well done.
I could see this as the opening on a film. His friends go looking for him. ¯\_(ツ)_/¯
I was thinking of a full movie to show more with his friends finding his bike and seeing his glasses in the pool.

Stranger things the abridged version
Does it take place in the 80s?

Dude. This is _insanely_ well-done. Personally I’m not big on jump scares, but the tone, visuals, story, and direction here are just awesome imho.
Thank you so much!

Just went for a nighttime swim, remembered this while underwater, and freaked myself out! Very good little horror film. 10/10
Pretty fun and well-made. I was expecting the pool to be like a pocket dimension connected to the ocean and that there would be sharks or something.
That was actually my biggest fear is a kid, scared that when I jumped in the pool and resurfaced what you teleported to the middle of the ocean
tambien el mio pero a un pantano, como un capitulo de billy y mandy @@funneimemeguy

The undead is the owner of the house. This is just a "don't step on my property" taken seriously!
I didn't even notice at first!
This was fantastic! The scene with the splash and the wet footprints appearing on the ground... CHILLS!!
I would love to see this turned into like an entire movie because the premise is so cool
Yeah. A pool that’s home to an entity that can only be seen when it’s underwater
Ur wish was granted :D just saw the Blumhouse trailer

Hey man, excellent work! The cinematography is top notch, along with the shots. The concept is simple, and well polished. Keep up filming man!
Great job man, love love love those underwater shots
You should have gotten the movie deal instead of Night Swim. It looks like they took more inspired from your short. Than their own short film.
Hey man. This was REALLY good, but why would you bring up my childhood fear like that.
At first I questioned why the creature took so long so go in for the kid, then at the end I noticed that the creature had fixed the table and chair and hid the kids stuff, that’s what scared me the lost tbh
Everything I ever feared about the deep end of my swimming pool as a child brought to light in a short film love it
So many unanswered questions! Brilliant!!
This embodies the childhood fear of something else in the pool
Might have make this a full movie, definitely scarier then night swim.
