  • In Hwasun County, South Korea, we visit a tiny village with an unsettling monument dedicated to the “eradication of communism” (멸공). Two friendly dogs act as our chaperones as we dig up clues to the site’s origins. Following this, we visit the far more settling Yongam Temple and its eponymous mountain for a climb up to its most jagged peak. Our soundtrack this time is the “Saemaeul Song,” the lyrics of which are credited to none other than former South Korean President Park Chung-hee.
