Its actually a man using hallucinogens ( a type of drug that makes you hallucinate ) because the man was experiencing a very severe mental illness to the point of suicidal due to modern problems as an adult. So the man in the end used hallucinogens so he gets to witness what feels to be a kid again but instead gets a fever dream of childhood traumas and memories due to his overthinking and oversaturated imagination. It's a very sad story since it is based on mental illnesses and possibilities that there is no one to help those who are in need due to low self confidence and self esteem. I personally connect and relate to this because I suffered a very severe anxiety disorder and depression to the point that I was unable to recover after seeking mental health therapy and medication

*If you guys didn’t know what’s going on:* The real story about this game is waffles was having three times nightmares about his past two toys and his dog missing, and all the toys in puzzle are one of the bullies destroyed, it apparently gave him trauma and the bunny he drop on the water that he can’t get it is bcuz he can’t swim and had a fear of drowning. The heart headed people are example of himself playing his playful thing he do in the past, and the soccer part is the ball he lost from the first part, is gaving the feel of how he loved. And pancake is never found he disappeared in the woods, probably died and never been found ig, as you can see in the end he is dreaming himself sleeping with his two toys and his dog in the past, while in reality, his already grown up and he died of drugs, just bcuz he’s been suffered of trauma and feeling lost all the things he missed, and forgot how to smile again The end :)
All the game is in his own mind filled with drug induced trip. AT THE END he's no child but an adult. If you notice again he's lying on the melted, his environment flithy. Overdose, when in the scene everything flashes back in reverse to the begining it indicates that before death our life is flashes our memories. And so layer on it shows us the adult him being dead by overdose and his tormented red soul being stuck within him so that we players can play again and repeat his eternal hell of truma as he knocks on the screen at the end to let him free from his suffering.
I mean after he does it a million times i dont think its gonna be scary to him anymore, he’ll just be like: “UGHH, OK LETS RING THIS BELL, THEN HE EATS THE FIRST BUNNY, YOU KNOW WHAT LETS JUST RUN TO THE HOLE. YEA THEN WE END UP IN THE NEXT SECTION. OK WE NEED TO CUT THE BUNNY IN HALF, ALRIGHT THEN LETS PULL OUT THE CARROT” and so on until he goes crazy and just lets himself get killed by the monsters, unless when he gets killed by the monsters he just respawns
