I expected this video to go forward from the game's release to 2021 but this approach is more striking: each time Philip goes back a year, I see myself going back into university, then back into highschool. I remember hearing about the launch of the game and watching early gameplay videos on those days, it was such a big departure for me as a long-time Source player. Then, MOBAs happened. My classmates stopped playing CoD and CS and started playing LoL daily, though I couldn't make that jump. I was too fixated on FPS games back then, I guess. Then, I attended university, and the first friends I made there started attending local LoL tournaments. Dropped off from there, entered another university. There, I found my current CS:GO teammates. Nowadays, we seldom play it but the memories is still here. The enjoyment is sucked out by cheaters and my painfully slow internet access, though. So, we sometimes play survival games together now. This is the memory tunnel Philip sent me in... Days go by so fast. But looking back to 2012, I always get hit by that same feeling of nostalgia. It still feels like those simple, relaxed days were the days when I could do everything, enjoy my life however I like. Wish I could see the future under the same light.
When I knew CSGO was coming out in 2012 I got pretty excited. Didn't get to play it until the following year. 2013-2014 was literally me playing the console version and trying out a cracked version of the game if my PC was able to run it. Then in May 2015, when the Operation Bloodhound was released, I bought CSGO at full price and being playing the game ever since. I didn't have enough to time to buy the pass, however. Later, I got to buy the passes for Operation Wildfire and Operation Hydra. Great operations for sure and they were better than the 2 latest operations which I wasn't a fan of and refused to buy those passes. With that out of the way, CSGO has evolved and improved over the years and I'm glad that I'm part of it for the past 6 years and counting. I feel old as well. 😞
Damn. This is a great time capsule of CSGO. It's an odd feeling seeing all of these old patchnotes and changes I remember reading so excitedly--I started playing during Vanguard and still do occasionally today. Thanks for the videos 3kliksphilip, I've been watching them since I started playing and the music in your videos combined with memories of playing CSGO with friends after school are things that I imagine will always fondly make me remember being a teenager.
It's frightening how many of these changes I know about or sound familiar to me, Despite me never even playing casually. It's a bit odd that a game I barely watch or play can occupy so much of my mind. Also I guess that means i've been watching you for Ages. How time flies.

I started playing just before Phoenix came out and I can never stress enough to newer players how good the old operations were. Phoenix, Breakout and Vanguard hold all of my favorite CS memories, it was an amazing time to be involved, so many maps coming and going at a fast rate, competitive FPS matchmaking was still a new thing, way more casual-competitive players, no veterans to be seen anywhere! And so much less salt for it.
This is crazy because this game was literally part of my childhood. Each of these events I distinctly remember and can tell you what my life was like at that time based solely on these events. The Boston major was probably like the peak of my csgo involvement

The finals were between NaVi (starix, ceh9, Zeus, Edward, Markeloff) and ESC Gaming (TaZ, Neo, pasha, kuben, Loord). Wow, I think I played CS:GO even before all those Legends got their hands on it!
