Yeah, most of the timethe hub does the centering (hub centric) unless it's stud centric 😂 set screws are installed at the factory to keep the rotors from falling off in the assembly line.
GREAT video I was deciding whether to do the new R1 concept or the power stop brakes which I already have on the back of my wife's crossfire I think I'll stick with the power stop for the fronts
That’s not exactly a quantifiable value. The different comes in heat dissipation. Slotted and or drilled have an ability to remove heat of the rotor plane faster than solid, because they move more air through them.
@@hardcore4476 yes but not as much as you expect if you’e constantly slamming in the breaks it doesn’t matter what rotors you have it will eat it up no matter what these rotors give you more consistent stoping power as the brakes warm up
@@Yo-shi-t Of course they help you brake better and more bite from less brake fade. However it’s like little cups, scoop more material out of your pads and make them wear out faster. It not insanely fast but faster then solid rotors.
He had me at “And that’s actually the wrong way, it goes this way” shows the Rotors spinning backwards. Cars don’t slow down backwards just a little education :)
Correct. The disk and pad assembly generate heat and are the areas with the most physical heat. Stated in the video I was trying the explain there is more conductive heat (heat captured and stored from the friction of the brake contact) towards the bottom of the rotor and the hub assembly. There is more airflow and heat dissipation at the top of the rotor than there is the bottom. That is why the slots are designed to pull in from closer to the hub (the bottom) to keep temperatures down closer the hub, and hence less heat is stored/conducted in the rotor hub.
I don't know what prius you have but if it's the hub caps, yank them suckers off, they come with a bad ass set of Enkei wheels lol. I used to ask my customers if they want me to simply leave the caps off and they giggle and laugh and I show them why and they are like "oh shi*!" LOL
The rotors will not move even slightly if you leave out the set screws. Think about it the wheels and lugnuts are holding everything down. Back in the day we never had screws in the rotors because they aren't necessary it's an assembly line thing nothing to do with holding the rotors in place once the wheel is on. And this is coming from 25 year ase certified tech. My advice pitch em and save yourself the headache next time you do your brakes.
In my professional opinion, the finish and the build quality is SLIGHTLY better than Detroit axle..However, I have a personal vehicle with Detroit Axle Slotted and Drilled Rotors on a Honda Accord (notorious for warped rotors) and I have beat on them with zero issues. So I can't say either is dramatically better than the other.
Currently waiting for the shop to call me back atm so I can pick up my 07 jgc laredo replaced my stock warped rotors & worn pads. What are you talking about with set screws in the rotors for "centering up the hubs"? thats false.

Would you recommend slotted/drilled rotors for a towing vehicle
Definitely helps keep temps lower on the rotors, just make sure to get a high quality rotor/pad combination 👍🏻
Power stop makes a towing package for a lot of vehicles
Cool! Thanks for sharing.
I got em and they work just fine. and they look like quality. Besides that, they cost less then the oem factory parts. No brainer!
Excellent and informative review.
How much heat is generated on a solid vs slotted drilled rotor?

Saw your video while researching about better rotors and brakes kit. Can you suggest me good rotor and brakes kit for my hyundai elantra limited 2011.
Powerstop from Amazon should treat you well!
do slotted and drilled rotors eat up ur pads faster?
No drilled an slotted rotors help get rid of debris and helps keep heat away. You also get better brake pad bite.
@@TevinBlanks Go google it. Slotted and drilled rotors wear your pads out faster.

The bigger size of the slotted and ported rotors will stop the car faster if you get an upgraded size
2:15 What da hell are you talking about. The pad area is hotter than the hub.

Curious why you went with slotted instead of solid? Solids last much longer
Less chance of warping when you have a rotor that can run cooler (more resilient to heat)
@@Pete_Tech_ True But drilled rotors can crack better to have dimpled than drilled

waitttttt a minute.... so the hottest point on the rotor ISNT where the pads are, but where the hub mates up? make that make sense
