  • Nritya Tales presents Bhairav Pallavi, a pure Odissi dance item, on the auspicious occasion of Rathyatra.
Rath Yatra, also known as the Chariot Festival, is one of the most important and widely celebrated Hindu festivals in the state of Odisha, India. It is held annually in the city of Puri and attracts millions of devotees from across the country. The festival is dedicated to Lord Jagannath, an incarnation of Lord Vishnu, and celebrates his journey from the Jagannath Temple to the Gundicha Temple.
On the day of the Rath Yatra, the chariots are traditionally pulled by ropes made of cloth, which are believed to bring good luck to those who touch them. Devotees eagerly gather to participate in the pulling of the chariots, chanting hymns and singing devotional songs. The atmosphere is filled with joy, devotion, and a deep sense of spirituality.
Rath Yatra holds great significance not only for the devotees but also for the local community. It is believed that those who get an opportunity to pull the chariots or even touch the ropes are blessed with good fortune and divine grace. The festival also promotes unity, as people from different walks of life come together to participate in the grand procession, transcending barriers of caste, creed, and social status.
Odissi dance incorporates a unique blend of elements such as sculpturesque poses, rhythmic footwork, delicate hand gestures (mudras), facial expressions (abhinyasa), and emotive storytelling. The dance repertoire consists of both abstract movements and narrative compositions, depicting mythological tales, devotional themes, and the beauty of nature.
