TIPP: At some point the stepping of the emitting particles is addressed. Istead of cranking up the substeps to 15, which slows down the simulation noticably, you can change the "Jitter Birth Time" in your POP Source to negative. This randomizes the birth and removes the stepping almost entirely without even adding one substeop. Amazing tutorial, such videos as yours make learning this (kind of) hard and complex software more fun to learn! thank you!"
Just wanted to tell you that you're amazing. I've been using Houdini for a little over a year now, and you are one of the best teachers that I've come across. Thanks for all of the hard work!
Very nice and well explained tutorial. It is so good that I was able to easly transfer the knowledge to 3Ds Max/tyFlow/Vray and get the same result. Thanks for sharing and keep it up.
Hello, I purchased the file just now. But I got some errors and it doesn't work well. Especially , the File Cache component keeps occuring the error. Please help me.
Hey. You can use copy to points SOP. It will add the geo to the points and then use fbx rop export (I don't recommend this on so many points). There is another solution to export only the points as fbx and then recreate the instances in your other software.
Good afternoon, When I have been following your tutorial and when you check your render view for the first time in the material section I checked mine as well and all I render is white screen. I progressed through a little further and setup my lights to exactly what you have and still, all I get is a white screen. Any help?
Hello Kevin. I’m not quite sure what's not working since there could be a few different issues. Can you send me the source file on my e-mail address hello@yan.ro? I’ll take a look and let you know. Thanks!
Hello. Thanks for appreciating my work.On this page github.com/dynestudio/DyLib you can download the DyLib package and then you have to locate DyLib.json file and edit the path to suit your needs. After you need to move the DyLib.json in the Documents/Houdini X/packages. I hope this info helps :)
You don't need to use houdini.env. Lately is replaced by packages (DyLib.json) as I explained. Please check this video: ruclips.net/video/6vPycs4HeZM/видео.html

Hello. I am using Karma instead of Redshift and have difficulty getting same lightning effects/results. How would you recreate for example this spotlight that is in the background with out using Redshift? 40:43 Thank you!
Hello. Thank you for the question. Currently I am using mainly Redshift inside of Houdini and didn't played too much with Karma. However I found some info and test scene here www.sidefx.com/forum/topic/81421/ Basically you need to enable fog from render settings and use a spotlight to affect that fog volume. Alternatively you can also generate a constant fog vdb in Houdini and use a spotlight. Hope it works.
I tried to do without rs point instance, but it does not work, I created an attribute wrangle, prescribed the expression, but there is no button to add an object in the instance path. Please help me
Hello Aiken. Hmm... I think you need to press the encircled button that you see in this link: shorturl.at/apvWZ This way Houdini will evaluate the expression and create the menu button. Let me know if it works.
Thanks for the amazing Tutorial. Really learned a lot along the way. One problem for me is, when i installed the Nodes by Dyne, i want to pen them but when i click on the RS_Point_Instance iam getting an error. AttributeError: 'dict' object has no attribute 'has_key. I was googleing it and i dont know what it causes the error, maybe something inside the script what Python 3 doesnt do in this way anymore ? Cant make it run, is there any workaround here ? I simply tried to do it by an attr._Wrangle but not sure if this will work out well. :(
Hey. Thank you for appreciating the tutorial. Not sure what can cause that error. Maybe you can e-mail the guys at Dyne so they can find a fix. Regaring the workaround question, there is a simple workaround. 1. You create a point wrangle 2. Paste this - s@instance = “/obj/your_instace”; 3.You need to replace the path inside the quotes with the path to your geo instance. For example "/obj/spheres" Let me know if it works. Hi, I would like to know which build version of windows 10 you are using? And which version of your Houdini works with your windows 10 system? Thank you !
Unfortunately I don't use this workflow, but I'm pretty sure you can export particles as Redshift/Arnold proxies (make sure to disable "discard unused attributes"). Then you import the proxy in Cinema and create the shaders there using the Cd or other channels that are embedded inside of proxy. There is another workflow with alembic format that might help. Please check it here: vimeo.com/393436800 Let me know if it works. Thanks :)
