After being a thrower for over 2 years now this is the best technical video I've found for discus. thanks
Thanks!
It's OK keep it up!

Erinn Brancheau it’s super simple yet it helps everyone no matter who you are
really useful
I've been coaching high school disc and shot since 2007. This video is really great. It reinforces all the things I've been telling my kids, but hearing it from an Olympic athlete will carry more weight. Thank you.
Thanks Jamie! We're glad to hear it'll help the future generations of throwers!
Don't you find it crazy no one has broke the Discus Record since 1986?
When your forced to do discus in sports day with no training and you don't even know what it is.....
Edit: Wow, my comment is still getting replies 6 years later, I wish you all the best of luck with your discuss throws!
Toby_Night oh my God this is me rn
I'm in athletics so I'm taking part in running and stuff but coach asked me to do discus and I haven't thrown a discus in legit a few years and the only time I've thrown a discus was 2 years ago in a similar scenario at my old school
I winged it last time but this time I'm doing research 😂😂
How'd your sports day go?
I'm competing for my school on 15 but............ MY GODDAMN COACH NEVER TRAINS ME!!! That little piece of *censored* Ugh!!! I don't wanna embarrass myself so I got help online.
Me rn😂😂😂
Toby_Night I feel bad for y’all
This is exactly why I’m watching this video
This is great if you're beginning to throw.
Hopeful we will see more Schuurmans, Harrell, Kovacs and throwers in this series it is awesome
+Robert Stephen Watch this space, we've got a lot more coming!
+World Sport you should look at ryan laughtney a guy from my school whos trying for rio in hammer throw he almost made london

+devin simon Thanks for the tip, we'll look him up!
My son’s junior high track & field day is next week, and my volunteer position is at the discus station.
Thank you for teaching me what discus is!
instant subscription because we know you have done lots of research. the technical breakdown of motions is just on an another level. you offer great insights into training camps, routines of the athletes etc. from an overall package point of view this is the best yet. nothing comes close. good job
Ya’ll I have a track meet tomorrow and I barely know how to throw.. 😭
bro thats exactly what im doing too rn😂
@@kobyjackson2564 same
I’m forced to do it for my track meet tomorrow, our coaches have never taught us to do it and yet decided to put me in it. I’m clueless on the topic and I’m extremely weak 😭✋🏻
Who’s forced by their PE/gym teacher to watch this during quarantine?
here i am
I’m forced to do it for my track meet tomorrow, our coaches have never taught us to do it and yet decided to put me in it. I’m clueless on the topic and I’m extremely weak 😭✋🏻

Serenidie Smith good job!
@@kristalofland2256 thanks
Is that good or bad?
Ever since I watched this video..Improvement! Improvement! IMPROVEMENT!
Thank you so much for this video!
That's awesome Joshua! Thanks for watching!
Cool guy, interesting video. Honestly more informative than many discus throwing tutorials as well.
I wasn’t doing to well on disc the past week, but I’m ready to change it. It’s all in the hips 🤪
Even though u probably wont see this, last year i threw the discus for track and feild and it was my first year. I threw 72 feet and 11 inches and i thought this was very helpful for this year im in 8th grade and i hope i can throw farther
that's pretty good especially for a girl in 7th grade
you still doing this?
best video for advise and explaining I've seen and heard thank you now I'm going to go practice my turn. I didn't know that my head should be lined up with my chest and hips.
When he said a good throw is effortless for him I felt that good whenever I would try hard to throw it just goes horribly a d doesnt even go far but when I just relax and throw it casually that's when it gets distance
These throws are so satisfying
Just went to my first track meet got no marks threw a 4K shout out ball round 29-30 threw the discus 67-69 my 2nd time ever throwing
This is really helpful.. thanks!
Have a track meet today. Didn’t go because, my coaches said I need more practices and experience. Yes I’m that bad 😔
Dead Fool don't worry, mines tomorrow and i'll be worse than you.
keep trying
I just realized that I've thrown in those very same rings at high school meets lol (Chula Vista Olympic Training Center)
hello ok, this is a wonderful video and jve watched it several times already. this is reallt hellgul especially since our throwing "coach" isnt helping us get better at all. I keep thinking about this video whenever I try to fix my form, so thank u for the great video
I don’t understand how I be hitting a 50 in practice but 90 in meets lol😂😂
Hellllp I have a meet today and have to do discus!
Nice cinematography and unique camera angles, love the shot at 2:58. Very well produced video!
Thanks!
I trained with him once when I was working with Arête! :D it was really cool
+TypicalPandaas He's an awesome guy! Hoping for big things from him in Rio!
Excellent... Thanks
I got this for sports day tomorrow and idek how to do this
Ugh I miss this so much
Yeah this stuff middle school and high school coaches don't teach you, you've come to the right place.
I'm going to zones for discus and I'm flipping nervous as hell😅so this helpful
Great advice
I say him at the Pan Am Games In Toronto....
But yeah... it's best to practice over and over and over your entries then jus trying to throw as hard as you can.....
cool
Sweet
thank you for helping me find what i was doing wrong
Thanks man
I love Discus!!
I am obsessed with this video 😍💪🏻
+maria bravo Thanks!
That's really helped me
Left leg is entirely too high. Keep it low for speed and so that planting it for the release is fluid, as it is in the video the left leg is actually pushing towards the back of the ring rather than just stopping momentum from carrying him out the front.
+None of Your Business shut up fool
Just wanted to let you guys know I made it my city track meet!! Wish me luck!
+Kaiden Elizondo Nice one Kaiden, good luck!
thanks for the video because i just started throwing discus and i have a meet next week
+Shaun Clark Good luck Shaun!
How’d the meet go
thx
That coach he's talking to on his iPad is actually my same coach lol one of the best in the biz
Hi, so I haven't thrown in maybe a year but I tried again when I saw a ring. However, when my arm came around it felt like all the blood was rushing to my hand and it hurt. Any ideas what this is and how to prevent it. I would love to start throwing discus again.
Shot bro this help meh alot
Gonna sign up for Discus later today for the first time lol.
I am a senior in high school with 5 years of throwing experience, Im 6'3", 250 lbs and my PR is 92 feet. Trust me that if your technique is off, you will never be able to throw well. I know that because I cant throw past 100 feet. I have seen skinny guys throw 120+ feet. Once you get the technique down you can start factoring in strength.
I'm thinking about doing track and field this year but I havent through discus since 5th grade and I was throwing mid 50's and I'm in 7th now
better starting in 7th than 9th as a freshman. go for it.
I have sports day tomorrow and I signed up for discus without knowing what it was-
👍great advice...
I’m a junior in highschool and I’ve played other sports like basketball and football and I’m thinking about trying shotput and discus. Should I? I’ve never even done track and people are wanting me to try it
I was in the same boat as you. Besides basketball. And while it definitely depends on who is on your team and your coaches. Track and field was probably the most fun I've had with any sport. Especially discus for me.
bro its so fun
Why wasn’t you tube a thing back in the 80’s when I did the discus in high school!
In in 8th grade and 5'7 and about 190 and its my first year doing discus (Ive played football my whole life so im pretty built) For try outs i tried out for one thing:shot put. I made the team but wasnt a starter on shotput. I was good in javelin and shotput but was terrible at discus. My first two discus throws hit the wall to my right and my third flew only 60 feet.I soon thought i could never throw discus well enough to be a thrower at the meets. I soon got more interested in throwing the discus. After about 2 weeks of commitment i started throwing around 100 with a cheap rubber discus (1k) (also i was fronting it) Just last week my good friend brought his metal discus and during that time i somewhat mastered being able to spin and throw. After throwing about 7 throws i started throwing in the 108's. Next week i packed down my spin and now i am currently able to throw 117-121's.
+K v y h s dats nice bro i wish i could front 115 but oh well, there was this dude at my meet that throws 140 with a spin and 115 fronting it, i was pretty impressed but once again i give you props cuz 115 i pretty good for fronting it
There is no "starting shot)
+SuperPlayz 765 wym?
What is a starter shot
+SuperPlayz 765 i meant a starter at shop put (it means i would throw shot in the meet, hence: starter)
Does anybody have any tips on how to keep my throwing arm high because I start high but then once I official throw my arm drops... so it’s killing my throw
The Kyra Show I had the same problem, it might be that you don’t have enough speed coming across the ring. I fixed by just going faster and letting the momentum carry it.
watch Arete Throws Nation
Solid this was mean cuz
In middle school it took me so long just know how to even release
My teacher decided to pick me for discus throwing contest but the problem is that i dont know how to do this and when we do practices,I cant do it right
Im reallystruggling and im the last person that she'll ever teach at school cause shes gonna retire soon.I really hope to do this perfectly tommorow
The otaku God how’d ya do?
Before you throw with the full turn you got to break it down and make sure you can do all of it perfectly before combining it in to a full turn
good teqniqye
Man, it looks so elegant. Almost like a fucking ballet.
I kept gripping it that was my first challenge on discus
When buying a discus would a rubber discus or a metal discus be better?
buy a metal one to be prepared for competitions. get the right weight
Jesus christ this guy is good i barely made my schools first cuts on discus😂😂
I throw discus it's very fun
Very Athletic Movement
POV your forced to do discus for sports day and your watching this 4 minutes before you do it
I feel good to be a Texas state champ
I do throwing in my school track and field and it is the first meet and they didn’t teach us anything about how to do the spinning thing and we have to throw discus
RyeBread115 my first meet in High I didn’t do the spin. The spin is the last thing you learn, first you start off with your power position, from there you work your way to a south, then you can start working on a spin. The spin isn’t something that you’re going to get in a couple weeks, if you do it won’t be perfect. But honestly it’s really good to learn the basic maneuvers first, don’t worry that you don’t know it now, sooner or later you’ll learn it
Brother this dude got some cake... I mean good advice.
how can you do that
i got sports day tmr and i dont wanna embarrass myself so im studying 😭
Transfer in tamil speach in please😢😢
My second year of discuss, I'm in 7th grade and my best throw this year is 75 feet, and I qualified for states and got seeded 7th in the state, is this good?
75 got you to states???? In middle school I was at 110 and wasnt even 1st in county
Hay
I’m not able to throw it upwards🙁
Any opinions?
BL EH Right, I am a discus thrower for my school I’m only 12 but I can give you tips
BL EH Tip 1: look where you want it to go. It may sound stupid but it helps.
Tip 2: point your hand how high you want the discus to go.
Tip 3: Swing your arm high and get used to all the things I’m saying.
Tip 4: Get a coach to teach you the ways.
Hope this helped you a little bit, Like I said I’m only 12 years old so I don’t really know as much as an adult but try your best that’s all that matters and work your butt off and you never know. You could be the next Olympian! :D
Sparklexzx thankyou sooooo much for the help.. I really have improved by those tips!
Even I’m 12 !
Come teach me!!
I came first for discus throwing at regionals and I have never thrown a discus in my whole life is this anything got to do with my muscles
Floating your left leg going into power position
I only started throwing discus about a month ago and my coach wants me to go to a competition because no one else at my club wants to 😂
Who else has a track meet tomorrow and is running the 100 meter! Because I am and not to brag or anything but I usually win 🏆
whats the song name please
It looks so easy. I don't think I'd be able to do it though
Practice practice practice!
First of all you need to learn the basics then only this video would be helpful for you
his coach is my coach too
+Cameron Dorris We expect big things from you in the future! He's awesome
last year in 8th grade my stand throws were 110 ft is that good or just average? im just curious
That's really good bro! my friend who was a freshman got up to throwing 120, he broke the freshman record, most freshman the farthest they ever throw is like 80 feet. keep it up and you can be a champ!
RamahLamah thank you! rn im doing about 100 feet stands with high school discs but my progress with spins has been slowed due to our crappy coach. my dad coaches me but hes busy so i have been watching this video over and over to try to mirror his throws 😂
That's astounding for 8th grade! I was an 8th grader last year and could only throw 72
It's alright but now that your in high school you know it got harder. How do u throw now
How. . .
Didn't make the Olympic team, did he?
Nope
I threw a 75 in 5th grade is that good?
My heats are tommorow... So wish me luck
