    You failed to mention the 'talkie' enhanced version of the game. In the 'talkie' version voice over audio was taken from the remastered edition and put into the VGA version of the game. However, it is not an official release. It is a fan project. The same team also made one for Monkey Island 2.

    Love this game! But the swordfights/insults just drags on way to long and take up too much space.
    I would definitely have preferred more puzzles and skip that whole thing.

      Hey! I think its a generational thing.
      Back in the day, there was absolutely no other game with this kind of humor, and it felt very original, so to discover all the smart responses to insult was very funny. It still is funny to me, but I guess the kind of humor is lost on the youger generation, or its simply not for everyone I guess.
      What other adventure games did you like more?

    • @mrmaxaxl
      @mrmaxaxl 4 года назад

      Miguel Baptista Thank you for your answer :)
      Well maybe. But to me (I'm born in 1980) it's fun for a little while with perhaps 2 guys you meet in the game. Not 4,5 or 6. I want to go on with my exploring journey. But I'm glad you like it :).
      I have so many favorites.
      But I'd say the want I lpve the most, and know inside out is; The Dig. Absolutely AMAZING game!
      People complain about it not being funny enough. Well it's just not that kind of game. It's mpre about you exploring an unknown world far, far away.
      I really love that feeling. I read a lot of Sci fi books.
      The backgrounds are jaw droppingly beautiful. And all the voice acting is stellar.
      I am such a fanatic about this game that I made my own Audiobook drama out of it 😁.
      It has taken me hundreds of ours to complete. I am really proud of my achevement :)
      I even added some ambient sounds here and there.
      Anyway beside that game I really like: Beneath a Steel Sky, Indiana Jones and The Fate of Atlantis, Toonstruck (very underrated gem)
      Loom and Legend of Kyrandia: The Hand of Fate etc..
      How about you?

    Games aren't art. Calling games art is to denigrate them as a lesser medium, rather than to elevate them to a higher medium.
    You know what I call video games that are art? A walking sim, or virtual museum. Real games are so much more than the art they contain. Strip away the humour, gameplay, story, functional UI etc from Monkey island and you're just left with art; what do you have? Nothing of much value.

    • @zuiop9993
      @zuiop9993 6 лет назад +5

      Who says that gameplay, humour, story (especially story), UI etc isn't part of art or even art by itself? When you have the view that art is just pretty pictures you have an odd understanding of art. Everything that is created by humans with not just technical funtionality in mind can be regarded as art to some degree. Games are neither a lesser nor a higher medium than any other expression of art. I personally would say that it is very rare that a game is as refined as works in some other art forms, but that doesn't make the medium lesser in any way.
      The Idea that only pretty pictures are art is idiotic.
      If you define being a lesser medium as a medium with fewer possible forms of expressions, then I want to remind you that fewer forms of expressions can actually be a very good thing. Not everybody enjoys the silent movies of the 20s but nobody who has any credibility would ever say that this art form is inferior to modern movies. You seem to have the understanding that more ways of expression makes the resulting art (which you don't call art if it is a game for some arbitrary reasons, I presume) superior. You didn't outright say it, but it seemed heavily implied.

    • @JarlFrank

      Depends on how you define art. Video games are art. The gameplay is PART of the art. Puzzle design in adventure games is part of the art. Level design in FPS and platformer games is part of the art. Making games is an art the same way making a painting is, a sculpture, a movie, a photograph, a piece of music, etc. All of these are forms of art, and yet they're all very different from each other. Computer games are an art form with its own rules, and making good gameplay is part of the art.

    • @NatiuneaJucatoare
      @NatiuneaJucatoare 6 лет назад +1

      There are so many things defined as art, or having this word attached to them that it is no longer relevant. Calling video games ”art” is not elevating them to a higher social status. It is not a select category of things, you know.

    • @malokegames
      @malokegames 6 лет назад

      Games are considered to be the 10th Art. Adventure games would totally fit to it!

    • @soylentgreenb
      @soylentgreenb 6 лет назад

      Philipp Meier If everything is art, then nothing is art.
      Art is what artists do; models, animations, sprite work, foley sounds, music. Code, story and gameplay are not art.

    Ohh man, I played this on a 486 PC (I think that's what it was called). I first played Monkey Island 3 waaaay back. I still haven't finished Monkey Island 2, it's been on my PC for the last 2 years prolly. (I kept installing it even after formatting a few times, but never finishing haha)
    That awesome intro, the music... And lets not forget the best thing ever, the sword fighting insults. :D

    Your humility, humor and passion are a breath of fresh air. Bravo for your wonderful inclusive and generous attitude. Your voice is unique and beautiful, and I'm glad to see your video as much as every other on this wonderful game. It adds to the zeitgeist of its history. Thank you for posting. I love it.

    2 minutes in all I'm seeing is a man slowly breaking down for some reason and it just doesn't feel like what I came here for so I'm gonna go

    • @GaminGHD
      @GaminGHD  2 года назад +1

      Fair point. I've added a chapter marker to skip the intro. It was relevant for when it was released, since it coincided with the Retro Ahoy Monkey Island video, but it doesn't make much sense outside of that time period.

    • @zuiop9993

      Philipp Meier if you are 13, with English as your 2nd language, playing for the first time, it takes 2-3 days. But it was great fun.

    • @NatiuneaJucatoare
      @NatiuneaJucatoare 6 лет назад

      Yes, in fact I DO avoid the vast majority of modern video games. :)

    • @zuiop9993
      @zuiop9993 6 лет назад

      @Natiunea Jucatoare: So do I, for the same reason :D
      Well, since I only play most games for 2-10 hours before deciding they aren't worth my time, I also have a huuuge Problem with paying 60 (+DLC) for a game if I am not absolutely convinced I will have fun with it. I mostly pay about 20 for GotY Editions of older games. Then I don't feel so bad when I decide to quit early. I value my time and don't put up with grindy games or games that I simply don't like. While there are so many shitty AAA games nowadays that are so disrespectful towards players time there was never a better time to get great deals for people like me. But I assume the money I pay per hour played is average.
      @Blackadder75: You can't blame the game if you have trouble with the language. I admit, the first time I've played Monkey Island it might have taken me a little longer than 10 minutes, but there are still only about 10 insults (maybe 15, but not more, I haven't counted) and replies you need to get.

    I have no idea why I like LucasArts adventure games, but despise Myst style adventure games. When ever I play a Myst style game I feel like I have no idea what I am doing and give up quickly. Yet, when I play a LucasArts adventure game I feel so engrossed in the story that I can complete the game I one sitting.
