The Pianist is James Vaughan, chief Pianist at Teatro alla Scala, a wonderful and very knowledgeable Pianist for Lieder and any Opera. Must add a great person too.
You are absolutely right. She's not a black girl. She's a white girl. ....hope you took it as an irony. Eventhough I really like Pretty Yende and even ocne appeared to her concert I'm so irritated with such a fuss about definig somebody black as offensive... I'm not offended at all when somebody defines me white because it's true. Human races do exist. Deal with it.
@@jmcbond43 You're so jealous of a fellow black girl doing quite well. Take a look at yourself and figure out why you cannot be happy for other's success.
I like this better than the Bel Raggio, nice ring and projection, but she needs to work on breath support. Some of the high notes didn't seem well anchored (especially the final one) and not deep enough in the torso, which all sustained high notes require to avoid strain. She has a good instrument...just needs more technical fine-tuning.
I totally agree. She is young and has a lot of more training to do. It sometimes is uncomfortable to hear her hit a high note that's not fully supported and the note is shaky and wobbly. Almost like a bad trill. More diaphragm. But she is otherwise quite spectacular. I've heard mention she has 2 famous former opera divas coaching her. I pray that they work on this. A high note needs support, but also confidence, and smart thinking to pull it off correctly. Not to sound strained, screechy, or wobbly.
She's pretty good (no pun intended) in this and the Bel raggio, but she's obviously afraid of the higher notes and doesn't know how to access the top head resonances. It's very hit or miss. Usually too wide, not focused, squally, all over the place. And the trill? Clearly she doesn't have a clue - but a trill is really not difficult to acquire - just a matter of some boring exercises sung with careful attention over a relatively short span of time. It's just an athletic thing. She can do it. And needs to, for the repertory she is singing. Nice flexibility. But needs more breath work.
Yes, in this clip she clearly needs to continue working on her technique so that the voice floats more on the breath and doesn't have to be pushed out. Breath control is the key to her going the next stage. The other important thing for her to be conscious of is choosing the right repertoire for her stage of vocal development - something that's fundamental for all singers. The way she has to let go of the final high C is a bit of a worry.
I remember going to this wonderful concert.
Pretty Yende is amazing! All you haters let me know when your Met debut is.....
Direi che per una non italiana le sue parole erano abbastanza
Chiare. Per la voce... Non c' è nulla da dire... Meravigliosa e naturale
You make proud of being an African
Yeah, a real credit to her race.

Toute en élégance
Voice has come on so well. Lovely.. She has a trill there somewhere...keep going!!
Bella interpretazione.
#FANTASTIC 💎
May I suggest the Beverly Sills performance is also excellent, especially the younger age one.
TO ME THE TONICAL QUALITY IS GREAT.
4:23 rona
She is just as good ; sometimes better, as all the other lyrico, spinto, colaratura soprano's on the world stage.
The lady is good. Well done Pretty Yende
Joli timbre
Who's the pianist? Or does nobody care?
Jonathan Sells Pianist is James Vaughan.
Nice voice. Big fuss about one Black girl with a good voice when there are so many many more...
who is making a fuss. U the one singling her out as a black girl.
The voice is far more than 'good'. Whether or not she is a black woman (not a girl) is beside the point.

Nice interpretation, little more work on breathing and delivery but she's got it.
Lovely, too bad the trills aren't perfect...but the rest is wonderful!
nothing is perfect. but she is perfect enough for me.. i just adore Pretty
Il pianista è imbalsamato😅

Fortunately for her she has gone on to have a stellar career, in spite of people like you.
