      Moviepass was started in 2011 but it didn't become big until 2017 when Helios and Matheson bought moviepass and lowered the price to $10, Odeon which operates in UK and is owned by AMC had already started doing their own subscription in 2016 a year prior to Helios buying moviepass, Moviepass might of had a affect on what AMC ended up priced a-list at but they were already on that path. Moviepass once Helios took over in 2017 was never a viable business plan and only managed to stay in business for a year, rather then the 5 years MP was operating before that., for $10 a month for a movie everyday, unlike theaters that make their money from concessions and not from tickets which they can take the loss on, MP didn't have that option. Also nowadays there pretty much a subscription for everything, so even if MP wasn't a thing the movie theater subscription would of still happened. People give MP too much credit, they kind of fall in the the right ideal, but didn't know what they were doing category.

    I used this service so carelessly. I would go to the same movie 3 times in a week so I could split it up and watch it over my lunch breaks. 2018 was great.

    • @georgewelsted5602
      @georgewelsted5602 День назад

      At least you watched the movie. I bought tickets multiple times a week just to earn the regal crown club points so I would earn a free popcorn for when I would actually go to watch a movie.

    When MoviePass began putting restrictions on membership the movies that could be watched, and when AMC A-List came out around the same time, it made switching a pretty easy decision. But MoviePass will forever be in my heart as a moviegoer’s first love.

      @dickriggles942 5 дней назад

      That's ultimately the problem with them. Some are honestly made and original, others are just made to create content and they don't really care about telling a story or being original. A lot of Netflix's sports documentaries are like this.
      Looking at the trailer, I don't think this will be honest. It's very clear MoviePass wanted to use their product to snake their way into getting a cut of other movie theater revenue, like from concessions. I bet they would even have forced theaters to charge for parking. They couldn't get away with it like BlackRock and the other private equity firms did.

There is a sequel to this waiting to happen, it involves the same people Ted Farnsworth , Rod Vanderbilt, Hudson Bay Capital, and many others. Vinco Ventures is essentially Moviepass 2.0 as it is briefly mentioned towards the end of the movie. Please tell the story of Vinco Ventures - Moviepass 2.0

    I literally saw EVERY. SINGLE. Summer movie that year. I ate more popcorn than I ever will again in one season 😂. And then theaters ruthlessly blocked any possibility of middlemen and destroyed any chance of the rebooted MoviePass coming back by making their own movie subscription services. $30 for an Alamo Season Pass has more than paid for itself between The Fall Guy, Kingdom of the Planet of the Apes, and Furiosa but I always end up spending more on food than I mean to there haha 😅.

    What a waste of a "documentary". I worked at a theater when this was introduced. It did turn out terrible, but the general public didn't care about it. People who wanted to see bollywood films wanted to use it most of all, but it wasn't included in their subscription. Yes it led to theaters doing their own passes, but this is a waste of time. I doubt people that don't know of movie pass will care to watch this.
