  • Gummy bears are added to molten sodium chlorate and potassium chlorate.

    The potassium chlorate when heated decomposes to form potassium chloride and oxygen gas. The sodium chlorate decomposes to form sodium chloride and oxygen gas. However the color produced is very different as the sodium ions produce an orange color at the high temperature of the reaction and the potassium ions produce a white/violet color.

    can i substitute naclo3 for kclo3 in smoke device?

      You probably want potassium nitrate not chlorate. Chlorates are very explosive, nitrates are dangerous enough if you're seeking smoke. You can probably substitute sodium nitrate for potassium nitrate (or chlorate), but the number of particles per mass are different. The cation shouldn't make any difference save the color, but there could be some relevant factors like the molar mass (or impurities).
