  • Parenting is much more than controlling the behavior of your children. Parenting is actually about heart exposure and heart change. We know only Jesus Christ can create the kind of lasting change in the human heart that will transform behavior. In this workshop, Paul Tripp (author of Parenting: 14 Gospel Principles That Can Radically Change Your Family) speaks on how to let the gospel shapes what you say and do with the children who have been entrusted to your care.

      You’re going to be OK, because you didn’t defend yourself. You admitted that you don’t have it all together. The Lord will put His arms around you and guide you through the harrowing process of parenting, especially in today’s culture.
      I’m not a parent, but this applies to me as well. Its impossible to be good on any level! It’s a blessing to see a man lay it down straight. It helps us get real. It also helps us to stop pretending we have to succeed. What he’s saying is that we need to realize how wrecked up we are ALL THE TIME and how much help we really need. I need more men like him in my life. 😏😏😔
      God bless, you Sister in Christ. 🥰😘

      Hi have you read “Shepherding a child’s heart” as well, I’m uncertain how to feel about it. Do you use the techniques on your children? How did they respond/ what were the results?

      @@thor5446 Yes, I read Shepherding a Child's Heart years ago and I highly recommend this book as being one of the best Biblical books on parenting. It changed my parenting for the good. I have nine children. Five biological, two adopted, two waiting to be adopted and two foster children. I was not raised in a Christian home so I knew what I did not want to do but did not know what to replace it with. This book helped me a great deal. Also, I attended his classes on this book in person. He is a great man as well as communicator.

      @@Racon-rk2pt No, their behavior is not changed immediately because heart change takes time. Behavior modification methods often do nothing to change the heart of a person. They merely teach the child to be more careful to not get caught or to curb their behavior so they can get an external reward. Discipling a child in prayer, confession, repentance and being sure to give the child the Biblical definition of their behavior helps bring heart change which is more lasting. As parents we have to teach a child who to love and what to love as well as good manners and socially acceptable behavior that makes us all look good. "I so love Jesus because...." One thing I love about God is.....I love order.....don't you? When things are out of order, I feel out of order. This will bring peace to our household....Let's see if we can bring a little Beauty to our home.....Do you know what I think is worth dying for? ......Oh, honey, the Truth is a treasure, NEVER, forget that!"

    Proverbs 13:24 those who spares the rod hates his son, but he who loves him is diligent to discplone him.
    It is not an act of rage it is a form of discipline, if it is done properly with love... Shalom

    Brother, you made 'some' good points particularly about realizing our kids are 'just like their parents' and we don't need to beat them unnecessarily and in anger. BUT, you are off base by not mentioning 'spare the rod spoil the child, 'spanking in moderation' etc. Kids are not adults that we can rationalize with all the time. If a kid doesn't get that he/she can't run out in front of a car via trying to rationalize with them then we most definitely need to pop/spank/corporal punish them. I took what I thought was the 'good' in this sermon and will keep it top of mind. God bless you!

    • @jjgems5909

      I think he distinguishes rage. “Yanking your child down the hallway” and “slapping them when they’re mouthing off” I don’t believe that is beneficial or biblical. It doesn’t mean children shouldn’t be spanked when a parent is calm and in control of their emotions and is able to explain to the child why they are spanking them. But spanking then in anger and in a fit of rage can lead to abuse.

      His brother Tess Tripp also has a parenting book called shepherding a child that talks about this. But that was my impression from the sermon

    • @Psalm_27.4
      @Psalm_27.4 2 года назад +1

      @Wayne Emerson I don’t think his failure to mention “spare the rod, spoil the child,” in this seminar reveals being off base in the slightest. It’s clear Pastor Tripp is a no nonsense man by nature. I imagine that Pastor Tripp has spanked plenty in his parenting.
      His message in this teaching is far more profound than the rudiments of corporal punishment. Every adult knows how to administer spanking. VERY few know how to do what he challenges us to be.
