What an amazing drum. I have one of the original nickel on brass sensitones (not the Steve Ferrone) and I remember it was less than $200 when I bought it new when they first came out and I kept it. For the money it's the best snare in my collection.

I love my Pearl Aluminium Sensitone .
It sounds similar to my Supra, but with a bit more volume and not as dry.
    Fabulous to play.
Great channel, by the way...you say it as it is.

Happy anniversary and all the best for Shane and his team...I love your reviews! What great idea to bring back that snare drum! I own this original Steve Ferrone Snare and can confirm everything Shane comments on that drum! It is flexible, lively, crisp, punchy, powerful and still very sensitive...and it records great! I am glad i never sold this drum...if i was closer near by, i would love to check out your fantastic drum shop...keep up your awesome work! Cheers from Germany!

Sounds nice and Steve can play a hell of a back beat. If I recall, he said his studio go-to was a brass free-float piccolo (but I believe that was before Pearl built his signature). I have the maple FF and you can tune those down much further than they look.

I’m a fan of Pearl drums, I’ve a few sensitone drums from way back and they stand the test of time. I’ve also had an export, maple and birch masters kits and they sound great and the hardware is solid. One thing I can’t stand though is the modern badges, they look cheap and nasty!
