Hi John , Can you help me out please ? . First how do you attach the propeller to the drive shaft and secondly where can l purchase the bearings you use and what is the inside diameter . I did a mock up of attaching a piece of scrap wood to my drive shaft making it a very tight fit and gluing it but it s not very strong and would probably come lose after while . Kind regards , Bill .

Bill there are lots of ways you can use to attach the propeller to the shaft but the one that I have found the best is to use old Meccano bosses or pulley wheels, as long as they have a boss on them with a set or grub screw they will hold the prop on firmly and are easy to fit and remove.
As for the axles any diameter will suffice, I find around 4mm (SWG size 8) is about right, too thick is more difficult to bend, too thin is too bendy. 4mm will fit perfectly in Meccano parts too as Meccano rods are SWG 8 (4.06mm). you can use what you have available and drill or ream out the Meccano bosses to accept the axle shafts.
Old Meccano parts are widely available, you can often buy a boxful of old parts for next to nowt and they usually include lots of bush and pulley wheels that do the job.
Parts that are good for propellers are No 24 Bush wheel, No 22 1" pulley wheel, 20a 2" pulley wheel and 62b crank . Don't spend money on new stuff any old or battered parts will do the job. Old electrical connectors are useful too as they are often brass and come with screws and are various diameters, I think I did a video covering them.

Hello, Meccano is metal construction kit invented by Frank Hornby in 1898. originally intended as a toy it is still used today by a huge number of enthusiasts. Most children up to the 1980's will have played with Meccano at some time.
