As with many things, though cars are perhaps most infamous, the previous model is often more beloved and sorely missed in comparison to the follow-up, especially when the manufacturer replaces it with something controversial or the entire point of the model. Ferrari is not the most recent recipient of this downgrade is an upgrade methodology (maybe just the trend setter), and in true trickledown form, now more mainstream manufacturers are following suit; the once almighty AMG C63 is a four banger (cough!), an 'entry level' Ferrari sportscar has a V6, etc.
This is how I look upon the 488 now. "Well, it's better than the ___", said while the bruises and cut throat of the 458's blood is made fresh again. Why must they do this again and again until we're all reveling at old posters on the wall curled up in the corners from that one humid summer when nothing could be hidden from deviant moisture, or the color fading from the center in old age, just as those back in the day (self included) looked upon the F40 as it was replaced by the F50...
