While maybe not the best for gaming, this will outperform most $350 laptops in performance and build quality. Really not a bad choice if you need a solid laptop for every day stuff and light gaming
That doesn't make sense either because you can already find a lot of second-hand gaming laptops and on top of that you can get a steam deck for like $400

It's still kind of hard to beat the Ryzen 5600U HP Probook I got for $350. CPU wise, it will walk all over this 4 core i7. Amazon seems to have an endless supply of them for around $350
TBH at that point you are better off just getting a Steam Deck installing windows on it, and using that with a BT keyboard + portable monitor/Dock. I literally stopepd taking my laptop to work meetings abroad and bring my steam deck with a bt kb/mouse and use that for replying to e-mails etc.

Keep it up thank you ....
On the side that's not a "compact flash" but an express card slot. It's for add-in cards like additional USB ports (like I got my older Thinkpad USB 3.0 with that), WiFi cards, card readers and more. I really miss those on modern laptops. You asked: Yeah, I prefer the trackpoint over the touchpad. Feels a bit strange in the beginning but you get used to it pretty quickly. Lenovo is the last brand with trackpoints on their Thinkpad series though. Dell and Fujitsu dropped them. This and the good keyboard really make Thinkpads THE option for me. Plus it's good to know you can spill water over it without damaging it. Yeah - you might get more raw performance for less money but even then I just play games that run on it. Starcraft II, Final Fantasy XIII (and all the ones before), NFS Most Wanted (2013) - yeah, not a competitive gamer myself.
I bought a Lenovo P51 back in 2015 with Xeon Processor, Quadro M2200 dGPU with 4GB VRAM (it performs like a 1050 card), 16GB RAM, 2x 512GB NVMe SSDs + 1x 512GB SATA 2.5 inch SSD, touch display with stylus support and it still runs well. I dual boot it with Windows 11 and Ubuntu. Its support's RAID 0 and 1. The thunderbolt 3 is compatible with eGPUs. I've used an Aorus 1070 gaming eGPU. My Wife refers to it as the brick!
i had several of these same exact laptops that recently sold, i only sold them for 150-200 each lol, 340$ is way too much, i have 1 more that has a M1000M, and that's the last of them, got them from a friend which got them for cheap in a lot, their pretty good actually, and the M2000M is comparable to a GTX960 in im not mistaken, and the M1000M is comparable to the GTX950, i actually have another that had i think a M2000M MXM gpu in it, but im planning to upgrade it to a M5000M probably

The Lenovo ThinkPad T, X and P Series are outstandig in terms of quality. We resell refurbished laptops and desktop pcs, we have almost no returns and very little repair requests for those. Same with Dell Latitude and HP Elitebooks, ZBooks. There are good NVidia Quadros to game a little with. Or look out for the Ryzen series with integrated Vega GPU. Just like with Quadros... don't expect any wonder. ;)
I am rocking a Lenovo P71 with a Quadro M5000 card 64Gb RAM 2 NVME's an additional 2.5 SSD and a Xeon CPU running W11. It's a beast of a device. Built for graphic design only ever used as a gaming laptop :).
I find the thermals on the CPU quite concerning. I'd really check if proper contact is made between the CPU die and the heatpipe, maybe there's an issue with the thermal paste, like it probably dried or something. In your tests, the CPU was nowhere near from being used at 100%, yet it was 30 to 40°C hotter than the GPU which WAS pegged at 100% for most of the time. I run similar hardware on my 2016 Lenovo laptop (17 inch Ideapad Y700, i7-6700HQ and GTX960M), and the CPU has NEVER been thermal-throttled before the GPU. I don't think I ever managed to make it thermal-throttle, even. I partially blocked the exhaust and yet I struggled to get it over 80°C and no signs of throttling when I played Genshin a few years back with both CPU and GPU usage being evenly matched.
Max turbo for i7 7820hq is 3.9ghz , for the i7 6700hq its 3.5ghz , more power higher temps. But i do agree the temps are a bit concerning and something might be wrong with that paste.
Honestly, the price doesn't seem too bad for a refurbished mobile workstation and considering the specs. I was looking into buying something similar a while ago for working with Blender and Unity, unfortunately local refurbishers in my country tend to list similar laptops at almost 1000 EUR. In the end I ended up buying a new gaming laptop for not much more.

I hate those listings for gaming computers I see all over eBay with the intensity of a thousand burning white-hot suns. The listing name itself tells you nothing, and the parts inside are often times so old they witnessed the crucifixion of Jesus in person. "QUAD-CORE! I7! NVIDIA!" I'm glad I have a conscience and healthy sense of shame enough to not trick parents. grandparents, and other uniformed buyers into buying what is essentially e-waste when it comes to modern gaming,
There is more to gaming than first person shooters. This should be fine for many games and a bump up from a $350 laptop with an igpu, which is what you should be comparing it to. The question isn't "Does this laptop play my FPS games at super high frames per second?" The question " Is an older CPU combined with an older dgpu make sense when compared to a like priced newer CPU with igpu?" A second question "is it worth paying $150-200 more more a modern lowest end 'gaming' laptop?" @$309 Acer Aspire 3 AMD 7320u (4c/8t) with 610m (2c igpu 8gb RAM, 128gb nvme @$359 HP ProBook 445 AMD 5600u (6c/12t) with igpu (7 core) 16gb RAM, 512gb nvme @$313 HP ProBook 440 Intel i5-10210 (4c/8t) with 24 EU UHD igpu @$573 MSI GF63 Intel I5-10200h (4c/8t) nvidia 1650m dgpu w/4gb 8Gb RAM, 256gb nvme These examples of what this laptop should be compared against. Can i get that gaming laptop?
I hate those listings for gaming computers I see all over eBay with the intensity of a thousand burning white-hot suns. The listing name itself tells you nothing, and the parts inside are often times so old they witnessed the crucifixion of Jesus in person. "QUAD-CORE! I7! NVIDIA!" None of those tell me anything, and yet people buy these things like they're going out of style. I'm glad I have a conscience and healthy sense of shame enough to not trick parents. grandparents, and other uniformed buyers into buying what is essentially e-waste when it comes to modern gaming,
Remember folks you can sell any laptop as a gaming laptop if the people you're selling to are dumb enough.
NICE video

There is more to gaming than first person shooters. This should be fine for many games and a bump up from a $350 laptop with an igpu, which is what you should be comparing it to.
The question isn't "Does this laptop play my FPS games at super high frames per second?"
The question " Is an older CPU combined with an older dgpu make sense when compared to a like priced newer CPU with igpu?" A second question "is it worth paying $150-200 more more a modern lowest end 'gaming' laptop?"
@$309 Acer Aspire 3
AMD 7320u (4c/8t) with 610m (2c igpu
8gb RAM, 128gb nvme
@$359 HP ProBook 445
AMD 5600u (6c/12t) with igpu (7 core)
16gb RAM, 512gb nvme
@$313 HP ProBook 440
Intel i5-10210 (4c/8t) with 24 EU UHD igpu
@$573 MSI GF63
Intel I5-10200h (4c/8t)
nvidia 1650m dgpu w/4gb
8Gb RAM, 256gb nvme
These examples of what this laptop should be compared against. A wider varsity of game genres, most of which play fine at 60 Hz or even 20-40 Hz.
