Back when the whole crowd was in the moment. No phones or social media to distract them. The atmosphere at games back then was so much better. Rare for a crowd these days to have that energy. Miss it.

To Noel Pipken: The atmosphere was electric: the chanting, singing, roaring, and sounds changing timber depending upon who was in possession. The spirit was akin to the F. A. Cup semi- or even the finals. ------------------------------ In today's era, the game has been infiltrated by the new rules system, creating the timidity of tackling; hence, outside mercenaries can show their "skills" without the apprehension of being challenged strongly.

Thank you for goal times mate i appreciate it :) ..... I miss so much those days when football was beautyfull game not business... in my humble opinion 1995-2005 was best decade of football since ball is rolling, so many legends played, all around Europe leagues, even in relegation clubs. Nowdays, its all about the money...
Imagine that in present times player of Shearer calibre, playing 10 season for mid-to-top table club (no hard feelings Newcastle fans i come in peace :D) . Im not sure, but if im not wrong, he didnt won even one single team trophy in those 10y,...Yet he still retired there, and he have my utmost respect for that.
Footbal is so boooring today and most of the times predictable , not to mention VAR who took second last piece of football soul... Last piece took Raheem Sterling price (160m) on transfermarkt :D :D :D Raheem Sterling is a mirror of modern football... Good physical attributes, nice haircut, and zero magic :(((

Very refreshing watching this, Beresford gets the ball from first kick off and passes forward and runs beyond Ginola and into attacking mid position
87 mins he is making a run into similar position
We would never see anything like that now...yeah we had a much better team then than we do now but it's about attitude of manager and willingness to let players have a bit of freedom and trust in them
Team is so fluid...Shearer on the wings all game, dribbling putting crosses in and Ferdinand in the middle

Games like this are the reason foreigners used to love English /British football and often prefer it to their own ; pulsating from first whistle to last, no quarter asked or given, yet with plenty of skill on display too, (thanks in no small measure to the foreign players). That front three of Shearer, Ferdinand and Beardsley should surely have been the England front three. But boy, what an atmosphere! I m not a Newcastle fan, but I ve decided after watching this that I MUST see a football match at St James's Park before I die. Hope you get your glory days back soon, Magpie fans.
One thing mind you from that game ; David Batty should have gone ; you cannot be allowed to get away with grabbing another player round the throat like that, he was probably the luckiest player in England that weekend.

This wasn't a good day for the ref, even by the standard of the day. I support Newcastle but this day could have been a lot different if, like, the penalty on Paborsky was given / Pav got sent off.

Maybe some of you muppets might realise to go Ashley has to sell.. He needs an offer he deems acceptable? Someone has to put in a firm offer. He wants £350m, so half the ground boycotts and he'll suddenly accept £250m, £200m..not a chance. Boycotting won't make a difference unless it's 100% and that will never happen at SJP

When this was aired , I was on a dinner date, on a barge, in Dubai on the creek .. and very posh indeed; as I boarded with my gf , we went one up , then two… just before the boat pulled off , I made the decision and jumped ship!! left my gf and went to the Pub to watch the rest of this brilliant match .. .
One very miffed and unimpressed Gf , but what a match, and 100 💯 no regrets ! 😂

it's hard to imagine just how big a win this was, looking at the man u team, it was full of legends and I think this game changed them forever.
they was never schooled like that again under the Ferguson era, the memory must have been etched into their soul.
truly a masterful performance.ance from the entire Newcastle team, intensity, grit, creativity and the fearless tackling that the modern game lacks.
every newcastle fan deserves to hear that atmosphere again, they deserve to have that hope again, hopefully the potential new ownership can spark an ember that can reignite this massive football club and by extension the whole of Newcastle and the north east.
plus it would be amazing to see a sea of black and white shirts on the terraces again.
