Even though the Atreyu Crochet channel is for beginners, I think it's necessary to build upon the basics. The great thing about crocheting is that even the most complicated of patterns can still be broken down to the very basics of crocheting.
Don't ever approach a crochet pattern with doubt. Simply break down the pattern and approach it one stitch at a time. If a stitch is foreign to you, then find a RUclips tutorial on it, learn the stitch, and resume with the pattern. Although our starting point is that of a beginner, it is also true that that is not our destination.
Happy Crocheting! :)
Love to see a brother crocheting.
😁
Me too!!!
@Mocha519 🙏🏾🙂
Me too 🍻 😎
@PaysDesMerveilles596 Welcome!🙂🙏🏾
OMW...I AM SO HAPPY TO HAVE FOUND YOU! I BELIEVE MEN CROCHETERS BRING A REFRESHING TAKE ON CROCHET. WILL BE STALKING YOU PAST VIDEOS, THIS IS A GREAT IDEA! AND I'M SURE ONCE IT'S WASHED, YOU WILL HAVE YOUR FLOPPY HAT AGAIN. ROCK ON!
I never thought about that but I’m glad men can bring a unique perspective to crochet. And yes, that’s the best thing about this, whenever you want your floppy hat back, like me, just wash it 😉🙏🏾🙂
I love to see men crocheting. Just subscribed
Thanks! I hope you enjoy the videos 🙂🙏🏾
Cool idea! Love the picture of you in the hat. You should model your creations more often !
Thanks! I’m not really one for the camera though 😂
@@AtreyuCrochetI don’t know why you don’t model all your creations that you make because you rock and you are lovely to look at. 😊
I’ve also learned a lot from you-I’m going to try and make my own scarf and hat as they’re really needed where I live in northern Scotland.
@vanessarae8456 Thanks! Good luck with your hat and scarf set! Let me know if you have any questions along the way. I have a playlist with matching hat and scarf tutorials too!

Hi. Happy Sunday!
Great to see another brutha crocheting as I tell people I am not the only one, there is a plethora of us out there and we are making more as we do what we do….keep doing what you do…I am sure out paths will cross in the future.
Thanks a lot. Best of luck to you as well!
Faultless is my go to for all the crocheted items that need to be stiffened up. Great video!
Thanks so much!🙂🙏🏾
I’m new here I’ve never seen a man crocheting I hope there’s more great projects for me here in the future I’m loving this hat for my son so I’m definitely going to make it for him ❤❤❤❤❤❤😊

I never knew that..wow am impressed...only been crocheting for 100 years, hahahaha...Thank you for sharing ...Beautiful hat gonna try to crochet one😊
Didn’t know they made a liquid! Thanks . Looked on Amazon, they have it and they also have a heavy starch for cotton, denim, etc.
Excellent! Thanks for checking and letting me know 🙂🙏🏾
Thank you for this info.
As for the iron, if it ain't broke, don't try and fix it
My mother gave me an iron when I married, it went to my daughter when she left home.
Three owners.
I love your feelings for colour.
Thanks! I’m glad you understand where I’m coming from with respect to the iron🙂🙏🏾
Hey Trey, it's good to see your happy smile....you are such a sweetheart bringing good ideas to all of us. Thanks !
Atreyu is happy to hear that you’re enjoying the tutorials. Thanks for letting me know. You’re very welcome 🙏🏾🙂
So happy to have found your tutorials!! So easy to follow. You are a great teacher! Love the projects and creativity!!
Thanks so much! I hope you continue to enjoy the tutorials. Thanks for letting me know 🙏🏾🙂
I wish I had seen this a month ago when I dipped the 45 bucket hats I crocheted as gifts for my 50th class reunion in liquid sta Flo starch. The Staflo liquid you can mix with water as strong as you want. Thanks for sharing.
Thanks for sharing!🙂🙏🏾
Hi! Nice to have found your channel! I usually run a piece of memory wire through the last row of the brim! Does a great job of flattening the brim!
Thanks so much for sharing! Welcome as well!🙂🙏🏾
What a great idea!! I totally need to make a large brim crocheted hat❤
Thanks so much!🙂🙏🏾
So cool! I crochet as well but I thought I was following you for loc videos 🤪 Super cool, you helped so much with teaching me tips while my son had his locs. Long-winded but will definitely follow you here as well 🖤✨🤟🏾
Welcome! I am glad you’ve migrated to this channel as well. Enjoy the tutorials 🙂🙏🏾
I made a similar design hat last year, and it's not floppy. It holds its shape quite well. I used the smallest hook possible and worked it all in a very tight single crochet. The result is a naturally stiff hat, without the need for starch, ironing, or wire.
Congrats!
I do the same…👍🏼 I even didn’t know, there’s a spray for.. 🤔
@itsme4693 🤣 Nice!🙏🏾🙂
I work outside at renfests and my brims will not hold up in humidity and heat no matter what sort of small hook I use. Hoping this might help if I use a stiffer cotton yarn., Sugar & Cream here I come. We'll see...
@CherryWanders Let me know how it turns out!🙂🙏🏾
Love that old school iron! Had the same model myself!
Thanks! Yeah, I do too :)
Absolutely love those colors!! Thank you so much for your video.
Thanks!🙏🏾🙂
Long time lurker of your videos, just had to drop by to say that hat is absoutely gorgeous!!! ^___^ Love the contrasting colors
Thanks so much! 🙏🏾🙂
That's a beautiful hat.
Thanks!🙂🙏🏾
My mom has had that same iron for many, many years. The fancy ones they make now break within five years, if you’re lucky.
I guess they don’t make them like they used to 😂
@@AtreyuCrochet For sure they don’t. 😂
@belantww 🙂
Very cool! Thank you for the idea. ❤
You’re welcome 🙂🙏🏾
I love what he does 😊
Thanks!🙏🏾🙂
Hello! I watched this video.
Love the crochet. I hope that I’m not speaking out of order. I have a book published in 1978 by Mark Dittrick. It is called Hard Crochet. From a search it is still available even ‘New’. It is well written and looking through it is timeless. I think you might appreciate his projects. I attempted to copy the cover and couldn’t transfer it 😢
I will be interested to watch and see if you use some of his suggestions.
Keep it up!
Thanks so much for the information. I’ll try to check it out. I love learning! 🙂🙏🏾
11:17 My mom had that same iron 😊 I was thinking acrylic would melt. Awesome hat.
Nice! And yeah, you have to take the right precautions to avoid that 😉
Thanks for the Tutorial about the brim. Neat. :)
You're very welcome! Thanks for watching! :)
Oh thank you for this!! 💕🧶
You’re welcome 🙂🙏🏾
Looks great
Thanks!🙏🏾🙂
Great looking hat !!! Nice job. I also have an iron from way back in the day , still works why get rid of it :)
Thanks so much! And yes, apparently those were well-made irons 😂
Thank you. I will have to try this.
You’re welcome. Let me know how it goes.
I have been making floppy hats all summer, I love them. I bought a product, on Amazon by Aleene’s, called “Stiffen Quick” to make my hats less floppy. You just spray it on and allow it to dry! An alternative to the spray starch!
That’s even easier! Thanks for sharing!🙂🙏🏾
That Aleen stiffener didn't work at all for me. Definitely gonna try this Niagra method
Bruh if this work ....I'ma be sooooo happy. I've tried EVERYTHING wires and all and nothing.
Sn does it have to be single crochet brim? I used double crochet on my hat. Thanks for feedback. If I need to I'll change my brim stitch to single
@born2cre8boutique make sure the starch is on the “crisp” end of the spectrum.
Do I need to change the brim from DC to SC for this method to work? @@AtreyuCrochet
Oh my goodness this is gorgeous ❤🔥
Thanks so much!🙂🙏🏾
Now that a real quality iron👍🏾❤️
Thanks 😂🙏🏾
Súper, gracias ☺️
¡De nada!🙂🙏🏾
Beautiful ❤️😍😍😍 pattern
Thx!

You’re welcome 🙂🙏🏾
Thank you for this. Getting ready to make a witch hat and I didn't want to eff with putting wire in the brim. This is perfect. Have a blessed one! I can't recall if you said, what is the fiber content of the hat?
You’re very welcome! The hat that i demonstrated with in the video was acrylic. If you are worried about burning or melting happening, then use 100% cotton yarn (that’s what the other hats are made of)
I love all of your vids I've watched. You're a great teacher! So, for this tutorial, would starch have to be reapplied and ironed after washing? I hope that isn't too dumb of a question. Love your tutorials! ❤❤❤
Thanks so much! Yes, reapplication would be necessary. However, I have another tutorial in which wire is used. This would eliminate the need to reapply starch.

Nice! Love the stiffness in the brim!
Thanks a lot!🙏🏾🙂
Is that the red heart granny square yarn? Love the way the colors look
Yep it is!
Thank you for this video! Maybe I missed it, but I am wondering how it is you determined it safe to remove the cloth and press directly on the hat. Also, is this process only safe to use on 100% cotton yarn? I imagine other fibers wouldn't tolerate the heat.? Thanks again!
Yeah, I did a couple of passes with the towel, then I deemed it safe. You don’t want any standing liquid on the surface. You can always do a small spot check to make sure the iron doesn’t stick to your brim. Just follow the same rules you use when you iron your clothes. I hope that helps!
Also, your iron should tell you which heat setting to use for different types of cloth or yarn.
@@AtreyuCrochet Ok, thanks so much!👍
@lulua8745 You’re welcome
Great video. Just a couple questions. What kind of yarn was the hat? Does the starch change the color of the yarn? Make it shiny or dull? In the proceeding days, did the starch flake? I’ve never thought of starching yarn. I generally make amigurumi and usually use a wool blend or cotton yarn. Starching certain aspects could take my designs to the next level. Thanks for any info you can provide.
Thanks! The yarn is Red Heart's Granny Square All in One. The color way is Black-Hyper Violet. The color hasn't changed nor has the starch flaked. Best!
@@AtreyuCrochet Thanks for the info. It is very encouraging!
@thehorrorfanx no
Problem 🙂
Thanks. What type of yarn did you use?
100% cotton yarn is the safest to use
Does this method work with a very wide ladies brim crocheted hat. Thank you for sharing
I would imagine so, although I’ve never used it on such a hat. Just be mindful of the material of the brim. You don’t want to burn or melt it with the hot iron.
I made a top head and I was going to get wire to put in the brim so the spray star is better for me to use? please help sister out. I’m wearing it for a wedding so I wanted to pop.❤❤❤
I can’t say which is better. I’ve never used wire. Do what you prefer.
I wanted to add that I use wire to support and stiffen the brim. Thanks for sharing an alternative.
@yvonnecook530 Very good!🙂🙏🏾
I have the same iron. My mom gave it to me when I moved out.
Very nice!
He can stiffen the allso hat part, to put a cooking kettle under, spray it, cloth over it, and iron..
Good idea!
They don't make irons like these anymore, strong and sturdy.
Then I’m especially glad to have this one!🙏🏾🙂
New sub!!! Hey!
Welcome!🙏🏾🙂
Nice idea for the whole brim and you can also add a row of stitches on a florist wire so it makes it extra sturdy 🎉
Absolutely! Thanks for sharing 🙏🏾🙂
going to try this on my cotton thread hat. It doesnt like me since I washed it !!!!
😂 That’s the thing though. If you ever want a hat floppy or wavy again, just wash it 🙂 Let me know how it goes for you!🙂🙏🏾
Groovy; that's how i starch out my cotton doilies. Is the hat you starched cotton ?
Howdie. The one in the video uses 100% acrylic, however, the other hats use cotton yarn🙂
Isnt this melting the acrylic yarn?
Nope
how about a bucket hat? your hat are nice ty you can put thin wire around it
Of course you can put a wire around it if you want🙂
Definitely…ONLY use an iron - direct heat - on natural fibers per directions!! 100% cotton is safe to do this with.
*** Note, Acrylic yarn is PLASTIC and will melt under the iron!!!
Thanks for sharing
Thank you for being my first melanin male 🧶🪡crocthere☺️😌👌🏿👏🏾💖I am excited to show my sun😇
