Hey EvanNova95, I just wanted to say I've been a fan for about two or three years, I was a huge fan of the Star Wars Movies, But you are one of the, if not THE main reason i became obsessed with the expanded universe. I dont know if anyone else has mentioned this but the photo that is showed when you mention Yoda's difficulty breathing is actually him 'feeling' the deaths of his fellow jedi during the operation of Order 66, not the fact that he had breathing difficulties but more so the fact that he is so connected to the force that he could feel deaths of other Jedi.
I appreciate that you depart from the ingrained superstitious faith in Yoda, which engenders the "Yoda automatically wins because Yoda" mentality, and actually analyze how the respective strengths and weaknesses of each character would intersect during combat. Great video.
And although I think Katarn would be defeated in a duel against Yoda, I doubt he would be killed given Yoda's inclinations against combat and killing. As such, he would likely survive, and having first hand knowledge of Yoda's techniques, would fight to a stalemate in any subsequent duel.

Lol. Dessan, when amped by Force nexus of the Valley of the Jedi, was able to contend with post-DE Luke Skywalker and even disable him from further fight. Among enemies Obi-Wan fought only RotS Anakin and Dooku might be able to replicate this feat. And Kyle defeated Dessan when he was amped by mentioned nexus AND Yavin's nexus. Add to that Kenobi's shitty Force defense and Kyle wins in a good fight.
Great vid EvanNova95 I always get excited when I see one of your videos pop up and it makes me so happy to know that you're still doing the versus series. I would like to suggest a double battle with Revan and Malak ( during the events prior to KOTOR 1) and Qui Gon Jinn and Obi Wan Kenobi (prior to episode 1)

After watching it I have to say that while it was closer than I thought, it's more or less what I expected as I have long equated Kyle Katarn being the Mace Windu of his era

I knew Kyle was going to lose this one. I mean, he won't win every Vs match, I'm afraid. Yoda just seems to have far too much experience in order for Katarn to defeat him. Katarn would definitely put up a challenge to him though. However, he would ultimately lose. Great video!
@@BlackEpyon Yep, i'd definitely say he is around Dooku/early Vader levels in dueling skill, and Dooku level in force powers. Yoda is a tier higher in both dueling and force usage, but it's not a huge margin.

Katarn definitely has a lot of tools to work with, but so does Yoda, and Yoda definitely isn't lacking when it comes to lightsaber combat. Evan was spot on about Yoda having counters to all of the force based attacks Kyle can use as well, which tips things in Yoda's favour due to their reduced effectiveness.
+Ryan O'Connell Oh my. Kun is going to crush Kenobi. Dueling wise is tricky because I have no idea how Kenobi deals with Kun's Trakata tactics and archaic saberstaff techniques. Since Kun +his weapon leads to a result that is highly similar to General Greivous, I assume Kenobi can wall Kun but it would take everything out of him. In force abilities...wow Kun stomps. Force power wise, if Kenobi if Palp is a 10, Vader is an 8, and Dooku is a 5.5 then Kenobi is a 4.5 and Kun is an 8.5. Kenobi has crappy passive tk barriers and Kun can penetrate Odan Urr's (who is basically Tales of the Jedi era Yoda in force abilities), lightning, force blasts, and sith sorcery. GG Kenobi. There is no way he is overcoming that.
Yay, another EvanNova95 video! This is going to be as good as Yoda Vs Revan Can't wait to see your updated take on Yoda and hopfully not overated him as a duelist who can penetrate Kenobi's Defence because Yoda has multiple attack vectors and better fundamentals than everyone in the Jedi Order.
Think about it, Kyle Katarn fought Desann who was arguably better than him, or even Luke. Kyle ended up using the environment to his advantage to kill the Dark Jedi. When Katarn has failed in engagements was when he was caught off guard by his opponents, but remember that the same thing happened with Yoda, when Sidious used force lightning against him. What I do believe, however is that both Kyle and Yoda are on par with each other, that is untill Katarn starts to become angry and fuels himself with the dark side. If you look at his engagement with Jaden Korr(if his student turns to the dark side) you'd see that Kyle is a beast when he's enraged. He employs frequent hand to hand enhanced attacks, while he disables his opponent saber with the force(a feat that Yoda achieved as well), he also uses force choke to grab an opponent and pummel him in the walls, or just uses lightning. There are instances where his chokes are so powerful that a Jedi Knight can't use force push to break free. You also failed to understand that Kyle Katarn's primary advantage is his insane endurance to punishment, he's also unpredictable and very dangerous, uses his environment to his advantage as well. It's like trying to compare a Porsche with a Tank. In his fight with Dooku, Yoda struggled to defend from his force throws, whenever the Sith Lord hurled an object the Jedi Master barely could deflect it, I can hear his grunts and realize Yoda had a definite weakness because of his size. Even if he said to Luke that size matters not he still died because of it. That's why Yoda started off very fast and aggressive, but that was not his core strength, his strength was in controlling the engagement. The only problem is that him trying to fight Kyle is like trying to match a Tank brute strength head on, that's suicide for the Jedi Master. The only problem is that Kyle also has speed at his side and can win the fight hands down no problem, simply because he's a more well rounded fighter. My opinion is that Katarn is somewhere in between Dooku and Sidious in therms of abilities, but he has more endurance than Dooku, along with a few tricks up his sleeve.

I really love this video, especially the way you expertly compared and contrasted their respective dueling abilities and how they stack up against each other. I'm wondering if you could do a similar video with Kyle vs Anakin (as of Revenge of the Sith). I'm interested in how you compare their dueling abilities since they are both Djem So + Ataru users. Kyle has a broader pool of styles to choose from while Anakin is a specialist so I'm wondering your opinion in how they would fair against each other.
I'm also curious about a Luke vs Kyle fight. You say that they're often compared to each other in terms of lightsaber skill so I'm curious about how you would judge a fight between them.
When it comes to pure lightsaber dueling, would Kyle be able to defeat GM Luke or just be close but not quite able to? The material in this time period makes it difficult at times to determine a real pecking order as Jacen, Jaina, Mara, Kyle, and Luke all seem to be around each other in skill.

I can agree with that, they were built very similar but Bane has been known to have a great anger, such as when he lashed out against Zannah, so I think Mace, through a hard duel could use that

Krayt is actually way more powerful than Exar, not only is he the most powerful Sith to of ever lived, but because he was revived by the Yuuzhan Vong he became extremely power in the force, I think before krayt's resurrection exar would stand a chance, but after his resurrection Krayt would almost destroy exar.
Ultimately, it comes down to whether or not Kyle could weather Yoda's assault. If he can, Yoda's energy drains and Kyle wins. If not, Kyle's defenses are bypassed and Yoda wins.

Ok, I'm just gonna say this: how can half of you determine how well a character would perform against another, when you haven't even read any of material that they're involved in? This hive mind needs to stop; even Evan has said that his opinions shouldn't be taken as fact. It's like trying to say that Revan can contend with Darth Sidious, because he's mastered both the dark and the light, but if you've read the content that they're involved in, and are aware of the accolades and feats that surround both characters, then you'd know that Revan would die in seconds.
we should do a crowd funding and make a star wars legends animated series just for youtube. that would be awesome, bring the books to life. If i had any talent for art i would of done so a long time ago, those people that made the jaina vs jacen legacy video did an awesome job, they were practically sifi channel quality on that one.

Also to answer your second question, no I don't think Yoda and Kyle are on the exact same class, but I do believe they are close enough to compete. Its basically the difference between a Tier 1 and a Tier 1.5.
@EvanNova95 I've had a thought not specifically about this versus video but something that I have kinda wondered for a while now and seems like a cool concept. Would it be possible for a force sensitive who has mastered Teras Kasi to refine the Tutaminis power in tandem with the Sith lightening power to be able to combat saber wielders without needing a saber since I'm sure you could also use Telekinisis with that technique to launch plasma bolts if necessary at range. The Idea being that if Tutaminis can absorb/redirect energy and sith lightening generates electrical energy (plasma) than wouldn't you be able to create a ball of plasma in your hands if you constantly use both powers in tandem with one another? and since Tutaminis is a lightside power and sith lightening is a dark side power wouldn't that also keep you from having any Dark side Degeneration due to using the dark side?
I just want to point out that Kyle might be able to content with Yoda long enough for exhausting to catch up with Yoda, as Kyle is far younger and fitter. A dragged out fight would be in his favor in this instant as it is the most likely chance for him to win. This is only a possibility though and otherwise I agree with your assessment of these two characters and I feel like this was possible your best analysis so far (and I am gleeful to see Kyle recognized for the badass he is, he is one of my favorite characters in the Legends/EU :D).

+Ryan O'Connell Oh my. Kun is going to crush Kenobi. Dueling wise is tricky because I have no idea how Kenobi deals with Kun's Trakata tactics and archaic saberstaff techniques. Since Kun +his weapon leads to a result that is highly similar to General Greivous, I assume Kenobi can wall Kun but it would take everything out of him. In force abilities...wow Kun stomps. Force power wise, if Kenobi if Palp is a 10, Vader is an 8, and Dooku is a 5.5 then Kenobi is a 4.5 and Kun is an 8.5. Kenobi has crappy passive tk barriers and Kun can penetrate Odan Urr's (who is basically Tales of the Jedi era Yoda in force abilities), lightning, force blasts, and sith sorcery. GG Kenobi. There is no way he is overcoming that.

Think about it, Kyle Katarn fought Desann who was arguably better than him, or even Luke. Kyle ended up using the environment to his advantage to kill the Dark Jedi. When Katarn has failed in engagements was when he was caught off guard by his opponents, but remember that the same thing happened with Yoda, when Sidious used force lightning against him. What I do believe, however is that both Kyle and Yoda are on par with each other, that is untill Katarn starts to become angry and fuels himself with the dark side. If you look at his engagement with Jaden Korr(if his student turns to the dark side) you'd see that Kyle is a beast when he's enraged. He employs frequent hand to hand enhanced attacks, while he disables his opponent saber with the force(a feat that Yoda achieved as well), he also uses force choke to grab an opponent and pummel him in the walls, or just uses lightning. There are instances where his chokes are so powerful that a Jedi Knight can't use force push to break free. You also failed to understand that Kyle Katarn's primary advantage is his insane endurance to punishment, he's also unpredictable and very dangerous, uses his environment to his advantage as well. It's like trying to compare a Porsche with a Tank. In his fight with Dooku, Yoda struggled to defend from his force throws, whenever the Sith Lord hurled an object the Jedi Master barely could deflect it, I can hear his grunts and realize Yoda had a definite weakness because of his size. Even if he said to Luke that size matters not he still died because of it. That's why Yoda started off very fast and aggressive, but that was not his core strength, his strength was in controlling the engagement. The only problem is that him trying to fight Kyle is like trying to match a Tank brute strength head on, that's suicide for the Jedi Master. The only problem is that Kyle also has speed at his side and can win the fight hands down no problem, simply because he's a more well rounded fighter. My opinion is that Katarn is somewhere in between Dooku and Sidious in therms of abilities, but he has more endurance than Dooku, along with a few tricks up his sleeve.

I really love this video, especially the way you expertly compared and contrasted their respective dueling abilities and how they stack up against each other. I'm wondering if you could do a similar video with Kyle vs Anakin (as of Revenge of the Sith). I'm interested in how you compare their dueling abilities since they are both Djem So + Ataru users. Kyle has a broader pool of styles to choose from while Anakin is a specialist so I'm wondering your opinion in how they would fair against each other.
I'm also curious about a Luke vs Kyle fight. You say that they're often compared to each other in terms of lightsaber skill so I'm curious about how you would judge a fight between them.

When it comes to pure lightsaber dueling, would Kyle be able to defeat GM Luke or just be close but not quite able to? The material in this time period makes it difficult at times to determine a real pecking order as Jacen, Jaina, Mara, Kyle, and Luke all seem to be around each other in skill.

GM Luke would be at the top of this pecking order followed by Caedus. Katarn is powerful and skilled but he wouldn't be able to defeat Luke

Windu is the most likely victor but its by no means easy. Bane would tax him
I can agree with that, they were built very similar but Bane has been known to have a great anger, such as when he lashed out against Zannah, so I think Mace, through a hard duel could use that

+Matthew Aguilar Schnitzer Have thought of that match for like 3 years and made a verdict. Here in just the gen breakdown. They basically = as swordsmen, but Krayt has better force abilities in gen causing Krayt to asspull an win (he barely takes this and will be in for the fight of his life).
Krayt is actually way more powerful than Exar, not only is he the most powerful Sith to of ever lived, but because he was revived by the Yuuzhan Vong he became extremely power in the force, I think before krayt's resurrection exar would stand a chance, but after his resurrection Krayt would almost destroy exar.
Krayt should win.

Ok, I'm just gonna say this: how can half of you determine how well a character would perform against another, when you haven't even read any of material that they're involved in?
This hive mind needs to stop; even Evan has said that his opinions shouldn't be taken as fact. It's like trying to say that Revan can contend with Darth Sidious, because he's mastered both the dark and the light, but if you've read the content that they're involved in, and are aware of the accolades and feats that surround both characters, then you'd know that Revan would die in seconds.

How do you usually go about picking who to use in a video? and do you really think Kyle is in the same class as Yoda?
Either by request or by whoever seems interesting at the time. I hadn't showcased either character in quite a long time, and this seemed like the most appropriate way to do so. Also to answer your second question, no I don't think Yoda and Kyle are on the exact same class, but I do believe they are close enough to compete. Its basically the difference between a Tier 1 and a Tier 1.5.

@EvanNova95 I've had a thought not specifically about this versus video but something that I have kinda wondered for a while now and seems like a cool concept. Would it be possible for a force sensitive who has mastered Teras Kasi to refine the Tutaminis power in tandem with the Sith lightening power to be able to combat saber wielders without needing a saber since I'm sure you could also use Telekinisis with that technique to launch plasma bolts if necessary at range. The Idea being that if Tutaminis can absorb/redirect energy and sith lightening generates electrical energy (plasma) than wouldn't you be able to create a ball of plasma in your hands if you constantly use both powers in tandem with one another? and since Tutaminis is a lightside power and sith lightening is a dark side power wouldn't that also keep you from having any Dark side Degeneration due to using the dark side?
I just want to point out that Kyle might be able to content with Yoda long enough for exhausting to catch up with Yoda, as Kyle is far younger and fitter. A dragged out fight would be in his favor in this instant as it is the most likely chance for him to win. This is only a possibility though and otherwise I agree with your assessment of these two characters and I feel like this was possible your best analysis so far (and I am gleeful to see Kyle recognized for the badass he is, he is one of my favorite characters in the Legends/EU :D).
