I am an ELCA Lutheran from South Carolina. Today (March 28, Palm Sunday), we all assembled outside of our church. This passage from the Gospel of St. Mark was read. We then processed into the church with "All Glory, Laud, and Honor" playing. Another passage that could have been read outside was John 12:9-19.

The horse was the animal that those who were engaged in warfare rode. That is why Jesus is coming back on a horse. The donkey, as expressed by David when he told them to put Solomon on "his own mule" was the animal that Kings rode, when they were coming in peace. It was not an animal that signified Jesus humility, although of course He came humble, but an animal that signified His Kingship, and all the Jews were aware of this.

Ahab was the bad king within the northern tribes... However, Manasseh was by far the worst, of all the kings.. He did repent...

Why does the congregation have to stand to read the Bible (in this recording)?
They do the same in the church near me, so I had to stop going after becoming terminally ill with Amyloidosis and End-Stage Kidney Disease as the standing was just too much for me.
If God changes the rules maybe I would be able to attend corporate worship again.

@@justmefl7045 That's comforting to know, but it doesn't come across like that or is ever explained that that is the case. In my church the minister just announces "please stand" so I feel there is no other option, or he says "all please stand" which definitely emphasizes "everyone"!
Strange in another church I know they sit in the places where this other church stands, such as in prayers etc., so I have never ascertained where they get their authority or example to enforce these traditions. I noticed when I lived in Israel that the Jews always stand to pray and not sit and they view the concept of Gentile Christians "kneeling" in prayer as something foreign, so maybe it is from them that the standing tradition is emulated, as I don't read much about the early Church standing specifically to read the Word out of respect or to pray standing as Jews.
I know Jesus referred to standing as an act of outer piety when he cited the Pharisees in the marketplaces with their phylacteries to be seen as being holy and righteous before other people.
Maybe the Church congregations look more respectable too when they stand rather than sit.
Funny how God and Jesus sit in heaven (on thrones) but still manage to demonstrate respect.
Anyhow, thanks for your reassurance. Maybe I will consider sitting in a service, although with my younger age the more elderly might think I am lazy or impudent as most of my infirmities are internal and cannot be immediately assessed by the outward eye, plus it is very hard to read the overhead words of songs and hymns when everyone else is standing towering around you!
At any rate, I couldn't help but shudder a bit when I heard the familiar call to "stand" when I began to listen to your video! But now I know it is advisory (?) and not compulsory (at least for invalids) the ruling is less terrorizing than hearing it with the perception that it is a command of God.

Perhaps sit in the front and make it known to the pastor for the request.

@@Aimeecinnamonsweets It still seems to be a man-made rule (as all churches are different as to when they stand and sit at intervals during their services) and not a punishable command by God Himself.

You don't have to stand, it's just out of respect for God's word. Nobody is going to kick you out or judge you for not standing, especially if you tell them you're ill
