Absolute brilliance- a large number of that lot would win the plate these days.
Great footage, great call, great horses

First time I've heard this race called by John Tapp. This vision is really good too, different from the others. Shooting at the home turn from outside the field gives an awesome picture of what's happening, head on too from around 700m to 300m, and even the home straight the footage angle gives a real good picture of the two horse battle. Best video of the 95 plate out of all of them.

What a horse. There is nothing like seeing the Eight Carat linage sprint for the line. The acceleration these black stallions can produce is frightening. Whether it was the "Mighty O" or his son "Lonhro" there are no other horses that can match the excitement when they run.

Dont forget Occy carried 10kgs less than Mahogany but what a champion 6 wide on the turn and he came from near last to first within a few strides. Hate saying it but one of Dye's specials.

Thats how a Cox Plate should always be run a full field and pressure from when the gates opened. But Occy was just next level as a 3 yr old just too good in everything and a tragedy beaten in the Vic Derby

Lonhro's Australian Cup win was against moderate opposition? Really? I thought that Makybe Diva was a decent horse considering she'd won tha Mlb Cup the year before and Elvtroem was VRC Derby winner 03 and Caulfield Cup winner 04,so they're some average horse's hey?🤦‍♂️

Now he was a Champion little Lohnro had 2 chances and couldn't do it , to be a Champion your name is on the Cox Plate honour roll. LOHNRO VERY GOOD HORSE BUT NOT A CHAMPION. Can't believe that he started favourite ahead of Northerly lol. Then got rolled at $1.90 by Fields Of Omagh and Defier. Argue all you want Lohnro just ended up being a better sire than his dad. But dad won everything.

Couldn't agree more. Lonhro was always beautifully placed in wfa lead up runs under 2000m. Won lots of races against patchy opposition
But his grand final race in the Spring, the Cox Plate. Nope. His grand final races in the Autumn, Doncaster and/or QE stakes. Nope.
His one GF win was the spring 3yo Caulfield Guineas and it was a great win but against his age group and only Dash for Cash trained on as a horse in that field.
Another notable win was Australian Cup but as we know horses are split between Syd and Melbourne by then and just fell in against Delzao. Mummify the only genuine horse in that field.
Hats off to Hawkes and his placement though.

@@marklulham3148 yeah there are G1s and there are G1s he was a great horse his best win was the Aust Cup but again he only beat Delzao, Elvis and an up and coming Diva but the Aust Cup has lost its prestige. He has been a better stallion the Occy was but Occy was the complete Champion. Lohnro had 2 shots at the Cox Plate in great form and was never going to beat a Champion like Northerly snd Sunline he beat Sunline when in her last prep and had to bust his guts to do thst so Lohnro great horse but not a Champion. If you are a 1600m-2000m so called champion they all have thst Cox Plate nrxt to their name

@@marklulham3148 no he was the new guy on the block, he still would have knocked her off. He just had the wood on her and the first Cox Plate they clashed she was queen of the Valley and that was the year Northerly gave her 5 lengths start at the Valley he was under the whip but just responded and beat her over a mile. That was when a smart punter knew there was a new boy on the block. 2000m was his speciality, thats why is Caulfield Cup win with 58kgs on speed was brilliant then backed up a week later back in distance and win his 2nd Cox Plate and he won it easy. Had he not done a tendon he would have won 3 Cox Plates my Mrs and I at the time got tickets for the 2004 Cox Plate after Northerly made his come back and carried 64kgs over in WA and led all but the last 30mtrs when hos condition blew out, but back against G1 horses his mind wanted to do.it but the legs didnt. If you come across it his book Northerly The unlikely Champion is a great read, he was actually a still born and people where at the just the right place at the right time and got him back.
What a horse and he wasnt $1.50 he was always $3-$4 now and then odds on but you would always get good value coz the so called pros rated Lohnro and Sunline ahead of him.
