The best has to be the force usa F100. 2:1 ratio, good room inside the work area, good spread for doing a wide bench press. Really good distance between the pulleys especially when doing cable flys. I'm so pleased I didn't get a 1:1 ratio pulley system. Also, it's awesome to have that extra bit of cable length with a 2:1 ratio.

    • @rashidalhajri3017

Hey man I recently ordered the F100 but they asked me if I want the 2:1 ratio or the 1:1 ratio. I decided on the 1:1 as I thought I can get more weight to use in the future while attaching a chain lengthens the cables.
I wanted to ask about your experience as it seems you prefer the 2:1 ratio, I still have the chance to change since I have yet to receive the product. Why do you prefer the 2:1 even though the max weight is reduced? Can you tell me your though process and advice on the matter?

@@rashidalhajri3017 hey, sorry to respond late, some stats of myself as they may need comparison for you to get a better idea. I bench 100kg 3x6, bicep curls 17.5kg 3x8, lat pull down 60kg 3x12. 185 cm height, 98 kg weight. I don’t use the machine for chest I use plates, when doing lat pull downs I have to use the row bar which connects to each pulley, as using just the one pulley or 1 stack isn’t enough weight anymore. Using both pulleys adds more weight to using just over half of each stack. The primary reason I bought the 2:1 is to focus on chest, chest is my problem area, it’s hard to grow so I needed a machine that I can use to isolate the muscle as much as I can. I also enjoy overhead cable curls for bicep. Sometimes I run the the rack which is really enjoyable being about use 2.5 kg weights as opposed to 5kg weights. Doing weighted ab work is so much more enjoyable than the usual floor work. Time under tension is so much easier to manage and being able to use smaller increments of weight for speed training proves efficient. Hope this info helps and sorry for the late reply bud.

Stevie, what have you found to be the best incline bench to get under the Smith bar on the G9?
There’s not a lot of room back in there. Does Force USA’s fit?
Shortly after buying the G9 a year and a half ago I found a Ziva incline bench on a fantastic price, so I bought it.
The thing is a tank, frankly, and when I put it into the incline position, there’s not enough room for the base to fit under the Smith bar so that you’re in the correct position to do an incline bench press. Yes, I should have measured the thing first but I was wondering if you might know of the best incline bench to fit under the Smith on the G9 with the little room that you have to work with.

Hi Steve. I have a powertec workbench lever gym and love it. I can do almost everything. But I do miss cable cross unit from the gym so I started looking at functional trainers or a cage. I currently use bands to mimick a cable crossover. When I came across the g3. The g12 was want I wanted but it looks very shallow and not very roomy but the g3 does. I've seen complaints about not being able to do incline press with smith bar on g12 but can one do incline with g3. I really wanted the weight stack but it looks like a tight fit compared to g3. Any suggestions

    • @StevieRichardsFitness
      @StevieRichardsFitness  3 года назад +2

      Hey Frank,
The G3 is 1” wider and 6” deeper than the G12, so you are right about a tighter fit.
You are a bit limited with plate loaded machine because of the length of the sleeves. The weight stacks definitely offer more in terms of heavier cable exercises plus the G12 has a 1:1 cable pulley ratio. However, even the 2:1 pulleys on the G3 can give you what you’re missing using bands.
It’s really up to you. Both are solid choices and it may even come down to your budget.

Hey Frank, I have the Powertec LeverGym as well and I love it too. After a great deal of research, including traveling to UT to see the Monster G-products in person, I finally went with the G12. The weight stack was important to me. I don’t like the feel of free weights on a cable pulley, which is what I tried first on the Powertec machine. The 1:1 ratio was also important to me, because I already had a Body Solid dual stack functional trainer that was a 2:1 ratio, and it was hard to get a good back workout in on it even with dual 200 lb stacks (100 lb with 2:1 ratio). I also loved the vertical leg press idea, as well as basically everything the G12 came with. The only real problem with the G12 - and it is a big one for me - is the inability to perform incline bench presses on it. You just can’t fit an inclined bench under the smith bar far enough to perform that exercise. And I am super bummed about that because I have injuries that make free-weight lifting a no-go these days, and I wanted to have the variety of the Powertec leverage and the smith machine, plus cables and light dumbbell work. But other than that major issue, I absolutely love the G12! It’s the perfect fit for my workout room, along with the Powertec machine, an elliptical, and dumbbell racks. I like the interior workout space, and I like the depth. I also like that the weight horns are angled so the machine can be placed closer to the wall (although, be careful putting it too close or you will have trouble getting your barbell out from behind the plates)… Overall, I love the G12! It’s solid. The cables work very smoothly. The smith is counterbalanced and very smooth. It’s a great setup that I highly recommend IF you can get past the fact that you cannot do incline bench presses on the Smith.

I’d say if you can afford the trainers with a 1:1 ratio, go for it. Having a true weight stack vs one that is half the weight can make a difference in the long run.
I’ve seen rumors here and there that many companies may move to a 2:1 cable pulley ratio, so 1:1 trainers may not be so readily available.
The G12 is an excellent choice for an all in one trainer. You can’t go wrong with it.

One reason the 1:1 ratio is important is for heavy lifts, like during back workouts. When I had a 2:1 setup with 200lb weight stacks, it was really only 100lb because of the 2:1 ratio. So on heavy workouts I found that I had to hang free-weight plates on the pins along with the whole weight stack to get enough weight for those exercises. Eventually I couldn’t add enough free weights onto the stack to get a good enough workout on those heavy exercises. So I ended up selling that machine and bought a G12. Now 200lbs is really 200lbs. The downside is that it can feel very heavy and difficult for isolation movements, like cable lateral raises.

Hey Steve, question on the G9. The unit takes up quite a bit more depth with the back load. How many more inches do you need on that backside with a 45lb loaded on it with a little room to load? it's not really covered but im working with i think enough space just want to be sure. Its listed at 58" depth but i think u need more to get those plates on/off.

    • @StevieRichardsFitness

I have plate storage on the back of my G3 and give myself at least 10-12” from the wall to get them off the sleeves.
Removing the plates from the G9 may take a little less space because you’re removing the plates sideways and not back towards the wall like the G3. However, I would definitely shoot for the 10-12” buffer minimum.

There isn’t that much difference between them. They both around the same dimensions and have good interior working space.
The G9’s plate loading system is in the center, which is the only all-in-one trainer I’ve seen to have this.
The included attachments are slightly different, but you get plenty with both models.

TM - if you have not purchased the G9 or G12 yet, there is one major difference you should be aware of. The G9 has one loadable weight pulley, essentially only giving you one weight stack to work with (free weight), where the G12 has dual weight stacks and allows two people to be working at the same time using both stacks. For example, one person might be doing triceps push-downs on one stack while another person is doing biceps curls on the other stack - both at the same time. You cannot do that on the G9.

The G9 has a 1:1 cable pulley ratio while the G3 has 2:1.
The G3 has 2 loading places for the plates. The G9 has a center loading location. I bring this up because 2 people can be working on independent sides on the G3 at the same time. On the G9, two people would have to take turns.
