Sweet man, I was thinking there would be a surge of eclipse-themed modular compositions this week -- happy to see you are the first one I saw! Man, I love that Morphagene. So sick. I"ve been playing around with manipulating samples from my rig live using an Octatrack, and that's also a ton of fun, but being able to do so under CV control seems like a blast, too. That Rings drone is pretty mental! Rock on, brother.
Thanks, man. That Rings drone is the frozen buffer in Clouds. And you know, the CV control is good with MG, but when things are this slow, I often find myself just turning its knobs.
Have to say always dig it. I have 4 room mates. 3 like my music. The fourth hates synth music\sounds. She has no idea that much of the music she listens to is exactly that. Its a constant bitching in the background . I realized some people want music to be a product they buy, not something their room mate can do. I really like euro peeps.
Thank you. And what's great about this patch is that it's 7 modules, and I'm barely using the Arc. It could really be done with just Ansible, Rings, Clouds, and Morphagene. But this rack has all sorts of stuff is patched up, we're just not hearing it. The whole section of Shifty, STOs, Opto, Just Friends, Belgrad, DLD is the main 'synths' voice.
this ! is what modular is for at least in my case what I plan on doing....the drone swells that come in and out around 2:00 sounds like a chord in a lower to mid register, is that the morphagene?
Personally, I experienced a steep learning curve with Kria, but to my credit, I've had a lot on my plate lately with loads of new modules to learn... but it is really great how powerful 6hp can be when you attach a Grid and so for a 6U setup, you can fit in a lot of functionality.
Man you are one of the ones... and I usually don't like so many digital modules. I'm sure the monome helps though. Which (monome) modules are you using with it? One of these days I'll get a digital source module, but the waiting list is long!
Thank you. Yeah, I don't really discriminate. If it sounds good or does good stuff, I'm down. I use two Monome Ansible modules and a Walk. Ansible is great because it's so versatile. With a Grid attached it can be Kria or White Whale, and with an Arc attached, it can be Levels or Cycles. And then with a USB piano-style keyboard attached to Ansible, it can be a MIDI > CV converter of many flavors. The Monome site has good documentation on Ansible if you want to learn more.
I originally wanted to get a bunch of mutable instruments modules, because the demos sounded so freaked for braids and elements, but I kept hearing them and hearing the same noises on them... and lost the taste. still very interested in braids and rings, but I'm mostly an analog junkie. I got a 4 oscillator studio electronics system which basically opened my eyes to how much of a hassle old school east coast synthesis is. Got about 1K in filters on it though and shit can it make some sweet sweet sounds (or brash trash like their demos are often). I see you got that belgrad cwejman style filter. Super nice the way it can transform without moving wires, and that xm seems like a more acid sound. Anyway, what I want is more west coast creative patching and a better way to sequence... the monome seems like second to none in depth and rotation. I wanna go baroquetronic. The teletype still viable? Its super hard to understand how they work from their site, but just from what I've heard it can do the job. I guess a question would be is it hard to master or did you get into your own groove with it pretty quickly?
I'll just say don't necessarily be swayed by what you hear out there. That is, just because people tend to make the same kind of sounds with modules doesn't necessarily mean that that's all those modules are capable of. And yes, love the XM on Belgrad. As for Monome, for me there is a learning curve. Quite steep, actually. I'm just getting started with it. But if you want a hands-on sequencer that REQUIRES lots of human input to really shine, then go for it. But if you want a more featured sequencer that can programmatically make changes, I advise you to look elsewhere. As for Teletype, I understand that it's powerful, but I don't own it and frankly don't understand it. Many people do, however. I shot video of Tehn playing a set at a party I threw last week and he did AMAZING things with two Monome Grids and an Arc with the Isms system. He is a master at that stuff (he *is* the creator of Monome). So hold tight and check out that video once I've edited and released it. Not sure if I'll post it on one of my channels, or if he will post it on his Vimeo. Feel free to sign up for my email updates (link at lightbath.com) and I'll send out a blast when the videos go live... or just keep an eye on my Instagram feed as I would expect a clip of it to appear there. Wishing you the best ~
It's the lightest, most compact case I've seen and I absolutely love it: submodularsystems.com - Plus, they're making a spacer that will connect two of the 6U cases together to make a 12U that can close while fully patched. I used the prototype spacer during my recent shows in CA and TX and it's ace! And for what it's worth, Robert Aiki Aubrey Lowe is also using one of these cases. He has his setup dialed down to be so lightweight and compact. It's pretty amazing.
Hi Brian. Want 'claps' are u using to keep the patchcables together.? I myself use velco but what u use looks handy because you can just bend it around your patchcables. Thanks in advance👍🏼
This is so nice I might include on my next personal use cd compilation if you don't mind. Can you remind me what the device is in bottom left corner? I've seen it before. It looks like there are 4 wheels or knobs revolving. What's it doing?
Nice. On your 'mixtape', sure thing. Enjoy. I should have a couple cassette releases out by the end of the year (if all continues as planned), so stay tuned. That device is the Arc by Monome: monome.org/docs/arc/
Oh, and I'm using the Arc to control Telharmonic as a theremin sort of thing with the four knobs controlling pitch (with slew), centroid, flux, filter cutoff on sisters. I also have an expression pedal under the table controlling a VCA that it's running through.
Oh damn, wrong video. Ha! I thought this was my most recent live performance video. Scratch that explanation. In this video, the four knobs are LFOs controlling various parameters, many of which are not audible because they're part of the synthy voice that's not used in this piece. The patch itself is a variation on a performance patch I've been using lately.
Thanks. Oh, monome makes a new module called Ansible: monome.org/docs/modular/ansible. What's great about it is that the module is 4 apps in one. If you connect a Grid, you have access to Kria and Meadowphysics (sequencer type stuff) and if you connect an Arc, you have access to Cycles and Levels (LFO/fixed voltages). And the module also does MIDI > CV if you connect any MIDI keyboard. All pretty great. So, in this case, I have two Ansible modules, with the Grid running Kria, and the Arc running Cycles.
Ha. Yes. So looking forward to how the quantum realm (and time) plays into Endgame. And if you watch the videos on my Learning with Lightbath playlist you’ll see a few MCU references ;)
How I missed this I will never know! Still, I am here now and thoroughly enjoying this wonderful patch.
The crystals definitely add to the vibes!
always and 4evr

Very relaxing, enjoyed it a lot!
So nice to see another video from you. This is gorgeous ....just gorgeous!
This is so spacious, majestic and light. It reminds me now of what we saw standing on the shores of Lake Michigan observing the eclipse. Very apropos.
Thank you 🙏🏼
Great stuff yet again 👌🏻✨ love the restraint you show here
Thank you for saying so. The restraint was a conscious choice this time. New Moon stillness.
Learned a lot listening to this piece and then a lot more reading the comments. Thanks for so much sharing.
Thank you for saying so ~

Sounds like she might be happier in a place that's less synthy. Wishing you strength and acceptance, peaceful synthwarrior ~
Muy bueno los sonidos...... Gracias...
Now my daily morning routine is watching your videos along with breakfast.
Lovely ✨
Modular Ambient Epicness!
stellar
🙏🏼
Oh, wait - good pun!
Awesome work! 👍👍
Incredible. You do so much with one rack, it makes me want to downsize.
Thank you. And what's great about this patch is that it's 7 modules, and I'm barely using the Arc. It could really be done with just Ansible, Rings, Clouds, and Morphagene. Thanks. And yep, other than the bell sounds, the rest is the Morphagene. I'm using the mixer faders (out of frame) to bring it in.
Another great vid 🙏
Thank you, Brian!
Lightbath that Grid/Ansible combo is def on my radar 🤤

Hi What is the name of the black cable straps /worms? And where can I get these.....?
amzn.to/3eUN9wy 💫
Hi! what are those nifty looking bendable "cord wrangler" thingies? :)
They're great, right? amzn.to/2Q84VRI
Amazing! Ordered, thanks for the info :))

Yeah, these are quicker and easier to use than velcro: amzn.to/2Q84VRI
Hey thanks for your quick responce and awesome soundscapes you make! a great inspiration

Beautiful!
A quick question about grid: does it need to be interfaced with a PC to work, or can you just use it with compatible modules?
You can use it with the Ansible module as I do: monome.org
Who makes that black eurorack case?
Submodular. There’s a link in the video description 👍
where did you get these cable holders ?
They're great, right? amzn.to/2Q84VRI
Oh, I just noticed your reply. Thanks, José!
eventually i ordered it from amazon thanks !
Wow it sound amazingly good ! How do you link the Monome with your rack ? I guess with Midi but can you give me some hints ? :)
Thanks. Oh, monome makes a new module called Ansible: monome.org/docs/modular/ansible. What's great about it is that the module is 4 apps in one. Great. thanks for the explanation.
Now imagine if those gems are the infinity stones.....
Let’s just say that something quite different would happen when I snap my fingers.
@@Lightbath I take it that you're an MCU fan as well! Your jams can score some Quantum Realm scenes!
Ha. Yes. So looking forward to how the quantum realm (and time) plays into Endgame.

This piece of music is about 6 hours too short...!
