Another interpretation of the ending is that one of those two could be that thing. Childs was alone until the ending. That thing could have infected him too. 😎

Personally I never could get over the fact that MacReady gave Childs something to drink at the ending. Not after they made a point out of it that everyone took care of their own food and that we got to see Blair eating in the shed, which may or may not be the point when he got infected.
And since we actually did not see MacReady get away from the rather substantial explosion...... who knows? The thing might have gotten to him somehow before we see him at the ending.
Same with Childs. He takes the drink without hesitation.
I see a pretty good chance that both of them are actually infected.
As a matter of fact there is an alternate ending to the movie which, as far as I know, has only been shown in a TV version of the movie.
It shows the next morning with the camp in ruins and a husky coming out of the rubble and running away.
It's interesting but personally I prefer the original version where everything is left open.
After all the entire movie plays with doubt and uncertainty. So it makes a lot of sense that it ends this way as well.
I have seen this movie for the first time some time around the mid-90s I guess. It still gives me an uneasy feeling today.
It is quite awesome in my opinion.

One of the greatest movies of all time, and greatest horror ever. Not just because it has an amazing cast, script, atmosphere, etc but because of the concept. You're stuck on a desolate continent, you're battling an Intelligent enemy that you don't know if it's just trying to survive or it's malicious, it can only be killed with fire/acid...if it even just touches you you're dead, there's almost no way to tell something is an imitation, if it gets to transportation, water or civilization then it's game over not only for humans but all life on earth. Can't think of anything more frightening besides maybe entire nuclear annihilation of everything.

Wouldn't it be wild (in this movie universe) if they could corner this alien lifeform and lock it away in a room it cannot escape or hurt anyone and force it to try to communicate with you ? I'd have so many questions lol let's hope something doesn't exist like this out there somewhere or if it does ..it's friendly and has a conscience 😂

to answer your question about taking a shot like that, winds in Antarctica are fierce to say the least so just taking a shot on a stationary target the size of a dog from a helicopter thats just hovering is 50/50, when you take in all the factors like the strong winds, the forward movement of the helicopter and the downward force created by the blades that the shot will immediately be affected by, plus its a moving target that's only the size of a dog, hitting a shot like that would be extremely difficult in my opinion, and I have plenty of experience shooting.

    6. Along with "Escape from New York" "Big Trouble in Little China" and "Tango and Cash" with Stallone would be great first time/share.
    7. Goof: Blair wouldn't have had enough time to build the little spacecraft.
    8. Childs was missing for a minute. The final conversation with Mac you can't see Child's breath. If he were the Thing he would want to freeze,
whoever is not the thing would freeze to death.

The is an answer in the last few moments of the film to who was the thing in the end. MacReady gives Childs the bottle of whiskey, Childs takes a drink and MacReady then laughs to himself. MacReady just tested Childs, he just drank gasoline from a Molotov Cocktail. The thing pretends to be human, but doesn’t know the difference in taste between gas and booze. Remember they were destroying the entire station with Molotov Cocktails, MacReady did have whiskey with him. He laughed because he now knows Childs is the thing and they are going to freeze to death. The thing gets to freeze and survive in the end!

There are two more of his so-called four apocalyptic films you'll like too, "Prince of Darkness" (1987) and "They Live" (1988). The Thing was a good film alright and a remake of The Thing from Another World (1951). Mouth of Madness might be the best Lovecraft film ever made, without being a Lovecraft story. Plenty of nods to him in it, though. It's seemed to me like Prince of Darkness is the one that gets ignored more, though, which is too bad because it's still a solid film.

The original story belongs to John W. Campbell. The book is called Who Goes There? and was published in 1938. Carpenter followed the book pretty well but did change some things. As for the end we don't see McReady drink from the bottle nor do we see where he got the bottle from, so it could be a left over molotov cocktail and gave it to Childs to see if he would drink it. After he does drink it McReady smiles. I like to think that it was scotch, they were both human and got drunk and froze to death. I love the ambiguous ending. Great movie and story. Another amazing reaction as per usual! I really recommend the movies "We Need To Talk About Kevin" and "The Perks Of Being A Wallflower", if you haven't seen them already. I am quite a big fan of actor Ezra Miller, and they play the main role and a big side role in these two movies. We Need To Talk About Kevin is a such a disturbing yet well-directed film, and The Perks Of Being A Wallflower is such a genuinely amazing film all around, and the funny thing is and the reason i am recommending these both is because these movies both came out within the same year, yet Ezra's characters are so drastically different, it is *insane* , just these 2 movies alone display just how good Ezra Millers acting is! I'm not sure about The Perks Of Being A Wallflower, but, the full We Need To Talk About Kevin movie has been reuploaded on youtube for free by random people, with no issues, so if you do decide to react to it, you shouldn't have any copyright problems 🥰

1:08 It is hard, I have never shot a dog sized target from a chopper, but I have shot a still paper target from a moving boat, at only 20 meters only 18 out of 25 rounds hit the target. (and I have been shooting for over 20 years) When you are in a moving helicopter and the target is moving the speed of a husky dog you have to do what's called a negative lead where you shoot behind the dog because the chopper is moving faster then the dog.

They actually made a Prequel (which is also called "THE THING") to this Movie back in 2011.
VERY VERY VERY Long Post below!
The Prequel also takes place in Antarctica back in 1982 and 3 days before the events of the John Carpenter Movie and it is the story of what happened at the Norwegian Base (the base where the Dog-Thing came from). The Prequel stars Mary Elizabeth Winstead and Joel Edgerton.
Now I myself actually like the 2011 Prequel although it is not anywhere even close to being as good as the John Carpenter Movie. It also has got a lot of really bad CGI in it. The reason why is because the Director of the Prequel originally did do Practical Effects when he made the Prequel (he wanted to stay true to the John Carpenter Movie when it came to Practical Effects) however, after filming on the Prequel was finished and it was close to being completed in Post-Production, The Studio saw the Movie and for some reason did not like the Practical Effects in it and so very late into Post-Production, The Studio hired the guys who did the CGI for the Movie "DISTRICT 9" to come in and cover over a majority (not all) of the Practical Effects in the Prequel which they then did. The fact that it was all done so late into Post-Production of the Prequel (basically almost at the last minute) is 1 of the main reasons why I think the CGI is so bad in the Movie.
What is even worse is that the guys who actually did the Practical Effects for the Prequel (their names are "Alec Gillis" and "Tom Woodruff Jr.") actually didn't even find out what the Studio did until they actually saw the Movie at it's Premiere.
Now I don't know if this next part is true or not but I did also hear that the Director also never knew that the Studio did that until he as well saw the Movie at it's Premiere (again, I may be wrong about that).
Still though, I myself do still like the Prequel (even with the bad CGI) and if that sort of thing (bad CGI) is not something that bothers you then you should check out the Prequel whenever you have the chance.
Again, it is not anywhere even close to being as good as the John Carpenter Movie (it does have a lot of flaws including the bad CGI so if you watch it, don't go in expecting to watch a Movie that is on the exact same level or above as the John Carpenter Movie) but I myself still like it.

Oh man! I heard about that that they went through all the trouble of doing practical effects on a John Carpenter remake just for the studio to make changes and not even have the balls to tell them so that's f***** up I think I'm going to react to the 2011 version just because of that story thank you so much

    • @ttanza4004
      @ttanza4004 3 года назад +2

@@PopcornReactions Well the 2011 Movie is actually a Prequel, it is not a Remake.
Again, It is the story of what happened at the Norwegian Base (the base where the Dog-Thing came from).
Also, I just want to say again that I do not know if the story about the Director also not knowing is true or not. I don't know!
When it comes to all of the other things that I said (about the Studio coming in during Post-Production and having a majority (not all) of the Practical Effects in the 2011 Prequel be covered over with CGI and not telling the guys who did the Practical Effects about it) are also things that I have heard as well. I do however believe that that is true (that is just me though).
Having said that, I have actually seen photos of the Practical Effects that they did for the 2011 Prequel (which then ended up getting covered over with the bad CGI) and I do hope that at some point in the future, they will actually release a version of the 2011 Prequel that does indeed have all of the Practical Effects in it.

    • @ttanza4004
      @ttanza4004 3 года назад +2

@@PopcornReactions Also, I won't say why but whenever you do watch the Prequel and you get to the point where the Movie ends and the Ending Credits start going.....DO NOT turn the Movie off.
Just keep watching when the Ending Credits start going.
I won't say why but there is indeed something during the Ending Credits.

This one freaked me out too, something about mixing real science and things like evil and satan and shit like that. When you mix real science and physics into a fiction its gives it more plausibility in the minds of people who don't know any better and thus makes it more frightening as a horror movie.

First theory is Childs is The Thing, notice when MacReady gives him the whiskey he drinks it without concern which makes MacReady smile or , my second theory is MacReady smiles because he's The Thing and he just infected Childs

This movie didn’t gain traction until later on because everybody was hung up on E.T. Later on in life you see which one is held up through the test of time. E.T. is considered some hot garbage (by me and others) right now and this is arguably one of the greatest movies of all time!
