The Hennessy asym classic was my first camping hammock. Its a great turn key option for the first time hammock camper. I still use mine on warm summer nights.
I use my Asym for day hikes in bug season. At my age a rest is needed after hiking. It goes up in a few minutes and is a complete package with integrated bug net and ridge line. I usually fall asleep and am rested for the walk back. I find the Asym shape very comfortable for someone under 6 feet.
I own 2 Hennessey hammocks, 1 classic bottom entry, 1 zip. I ended up sending them both in to 2QZQ for the zipper mod which allows to completely unzip the net and stow away if not needed/wanted. Love the mod. I also ditched the suspension and went with woopie slings on one and cinch buckles on the other. Pretty good hammocks in my opinion.
i know Im randomly asking but does anybody know a trick to log back into an instagram account?? I somehow lost my login password. I love any tricks you can give me!
@Jase Clark Thanks so much for your reply. I got to the site on google and im trying it out atm. Seems to take a while so I will get back to you later when my account password hopefully is recovered.
I did the continuous loop mod detailed elsewhere on RUclips on my Hennessy Expedition Asym Zip. I just want to click in and go. I went from hating the setup to loving it. It's no Blackbird XLC, but still a fine hammock. Following on Shug's comment, I'm 5' 11" 230 and the Hennessy is plenty comfortable.
Explorer Zip and an oversized Fly added the no home complete without plastic blue tarp for doing what you do with yours to form doors on either end. Heck, even if it weighed a pound I couldn't carry it now anyway. It's why I live through you and yours.
Hennessy was also my first hammock many years ago. I used it a bunch. Now I mostly loan it out, but I still like it. I just backpacked a 30 mile trail with a noobie a couple days ago. Gave them the Hennessy for the convenient bugnet/zip and I took a DIY hammock with a fronkey style net. Of course, my Hennessy was never slept in with their tarp/setup or suspension. I messed around that way in the yard but first serious use I went to whoopies, short tree straps, and a marlin spike. So yeah, Hennessy is great but they need some modding.
@@shugemery I still love my Hennessy but it's a touch...heavy. I'll be doing a backpacking trail November 16-17 and will be taking a lighter hammock. The trail is only a 25 mile loop but weight always matters. On the bright side it is a nice 18° here in Pennsylvania this morning of November 9. I love cold weather backpacking. Bring on the trail!!
Hennessy...whAt you mean...you go bottom first..I lost it.....you seriously make me laugh out loud! Your videos are so educational and entertaining...yep I’m repeating myself.
I use what used to be a Hennessy, but have changed it a lot. I got rid of the knot suspension first, going to whoopie slings with dutch hooks. Started with bought ones then made my own. I also stopped using the bottom entry and had 2QZQ add zippers. Also changed the tarp and definitely don't attach my tarp to the hammock suspension.. So only a bit Hennessy now.
I've never tried a different hammock--it's the only one I own, but I liked it when it was raining. I dip under, rip open, sit down, take my boots off and tie them to the ridge line hooks and let them dangle through the velcro slit so they're not in the mud, snakes, etc, and they are right there for me to put on in the morning. I just did not like fighting with a pad inside, so I wish I could figure that part out.
I started using a great product called CamJam XT by Nite-Ize. It’s part carabiner and part cam and holds great. Made outta aluminum. I do use a slippery half hitch to secure. Almost cut my Hennessy Hammock lines to tie loops and use woopie slings. I have a HH Deep Jungle XL asym side zip. I do like the hammock, but.... I’m getting curious of longer hammocks.
Hi Shug! Firstly I really love your videos, you are a hell of a character and an inspiration. I’m new to hammock camping and just recently spent my first night in my Hennessy expedition zip. Fell asleep in about ten minutes but woke up four hours later with some shoulders squeeze. Don’t know if I did something wrong, any tips besides the one you give in your videos? Thank you for making people both enjoy and appreciate nature more. You give the personal expression of uniqueness that comes from the experiences of growing up in touch with our human ability to reason and ask questions. Best regards from Sweden!
I found the Hennessys a bit short for me and sometimes gave me shoulder squeeze. Maybe a longer hammock. Also fabric comes into play. Some fabrics have more stretch. Or single vs double layer hammock too....ruclips.net/video/2iuCS3QPIAM/видео.html
Did you have the regular Hennessy Explorer Ultralite, or the XL? I'm 6'1" and am considering buying the zip entry XL, mainly because they have a Canadian store and I can pay without any currency conversion costs... You said you got rid of yours because it was too small, so I'm wondering how I'd make out with the XL. I'm upgrading from the Amazon Special, ENO Double Nest. It fits me quite well, but it packs large and is kinda heavy, and I'm looking to downsize to something that packs smaller and is higher quality.
What about using rapple rings and a carbinger? Have you covered that suspension way? Seems like an easier way to hang than stock hennesy method but requires no modifications to existing hammock
