I like the fact that they are taking advantage of the form factors of the bricks, using them as pixels. I hope one day we get something similar for Zelda!
Right, this set is so underrated. I feel like it's overlooked because of the Zelda, Fortnite, HP and Star Wars sets releasing around the same time. But it's genuinely fantastic.
There's much more movement in there than I'd realized! The tongue is a really cool feature and the cape's easy removal is a great design choice. I'm seriously considering buying it now.
This kind of model, that's essentially a display piece but requiers interaction to get the full experience, runs the risk of becoming boring faster than something like a Star Wars or Architechture model, and as such needs to be particularly fun to show off and play with - and wow, this hits the spot perfectly. What a cool model
Looks sick. If you wanna be picky, the music misses the bongo sounds that add to the track when riding Yoshi. But that's a nit-pick. Overall, this is pretty cool.
Nostalgia is playing a huge role in my purchasing of this set, you're absolutely right! Also, I don't know if Tiago played the game or if he just thoroughly researches everything, but it was nice to hear all the things named correctly! (dragon coin, koopa, cape and feather, etc)
I love how unique the Super Mario sets are when compared to other themes. We've gotten consoles, mini scale levels, giant puppets, and now a moving sprite. It's almost a shame that people would settle for minifigures and dioramas. So now we've gotten models based of Super Mario Bros, Super Mario World, and Super Mario 64, while the kid sets have covered the general feel of 3D World and other modern games. I think Super Mario Galaxy will be next year's set, if not another character model, like Bowser and Piranha Plant. Could also do a high detail Mario Kart set, since the kid sets are getting those next year.
4:25 There might be those of you that say that this is because there's no Luigi sprite in Super Mario World, just a green colored Mario, but that is false! There is a unique Luigi sprite for player 2 but only in the Super Mario World + Super Mario All Stars cartridge that was packed in with some SNES systems.
You gotta respect Lego for inventing diagonal pixels! I'm not much of a Mario fan, but that's basically the only thing keeping me from buying all of these sets. All of these have been among the best Lego does nowadays. If I had unlimited space to display them, I wouldn't have hesitated so much on these....
The 18+ Mario sets have been so good and I hope they continue with these yearly sets with interesting functionality. The piranha plant was ok, but this is the sweet spot for price & size.
This set was so much fun to build and looks really cool on display. I really hope they do something similar with the Zelda theme at some point. Having a pink hair Link from a Link to the Past at the same scale would be so neat. The technic solutions for the movement are also so simple individually but work so well, I feel like they could be reused conceptually to make some really cool similar moving pixel art MOCs.
I’m shocked to hear that considering price per piece as a factor in overall worth is “wildly unpopular”. I don’t see how that wouldn’t be an essential part of an honest LEGO set review, especially with the way prices are trending. Not factoring in price just seems… wild.
It's unpopular as a singular metric. Price per piece doesn't account for many factors that could increase (larger pieces, new pieces, prints vs stickers, expensive IP partnerships, among others). But I think most people would agree that it's an important point to mention in any thorough review of a Lego set.
i love this set, the moment Lego announced it and showed the pics i have been excited about getting it to add to my Mario 18+ collection. i managed to get a great deal on the NES, bowser and the cube so i a hopeful this set will drop closer to £100 and i will snap it up at that price for sure
I've already seen it for €84, just mere weeks after its release. Shop around for a good deal. I also motorized it fairly easily, which makes it look super cool from a distance. Noisy, though.
I admit I dismissed this one as being less impressive than the 3D models of the past, but I'm glad to hear it's more than met my eye. It'd be less authentic, but I wonder if there are enough spare green tiles to recolor Yoshi's arms.
Okay... The look of it moving when you turn the crank is kinda eerie looking and feels like a hallucination during a high fever or taking too much THC.
I'm amazed on how they made this work. I legit loved the choice they made and I wasn't even aware of it being able to move. It's not the same of the bowser, but for the price and nostalgia feeling it's giving me. It does feels like a must have.
I have an issue with the brick colors in this set: while I can distinguish black, dark brown and dark red easily on the box and in the PDF ( didn't touch the paper instructions), I can hardly distinguish the real bricks to build the set. I need a very bright white LED lamp, direct sunlight and often I can see the difference only when placing similar bricks next to each other. (Box code is 135S4, so it was packaged in Czech republic). BTW: I really like interactive sets, because I can simply build static sets virtually only and after a few months my brain cannot remember if it was virtual or real and building virtual only saves a ton of money.
This model is amazing and I adore Mario and am very nostalgic for Super Mario World, but I am not paying THAT much for a thing I could print on paper XD If this thing cost 60 bucks I would get it. And before anyone says, that would be unresonable price per piece, I know, literally everything about this set is great, but the price also needs to be validated by *what* it is. For this price we could have easily gotten full fledged posable 3D figures in Bowser's scale of both Mario and yoshi and as a custom character designer in this scale I would be much more impressed if they managed to make these figures actually be able to sit on eachother without falling over, instead we got some pixel art. the movement is cool but turn the crank twice, and it's boring now. When I heard the name "Mario and Yoshi" I got beyond hyped, when I heard it was going to be pixel art, I got insanely disappointed.
i have this one but its missing many parts.. even if it was sealed.. from amazon.. do yall have tips.. im on bag 8 and stuck cause i cant go forward and miss parts and messaged to lego 1 time and i dont wanna message to lego all the time
@@TiagoCatarino Thanks for the reply, that's great to hear. Yeah I guess the set is full of game references, and if you're unfamiliar with the game you might not get some. I certainly smiled at some of them during building.

hi
I like the fact that they are taking advantage of the form factors of the bricks, using them as pixels. I hope one day we get something similar for Zelda!
Right? They can spin this concept in so many different ways it's insane!
The use of black studded pieces for Mario's hair and mustache is just... brilliant.
Right, this set is so underrated. I feel like it's overlooked because of the Zelda, Fortnite, HP and Star Wars sets releasing around the same time. But it's genuinely fantastic.
Woah, that's way bigger than i expected

You're right, I can't believe I missed that!
Weird that Nintendo missed that
Wasn’t interested in this one until I realize it moves in this video. Cool set. Definitely considering buying this.
Mechanisms like this are so cool, and one of the reasons I love Technics.
The Lego Piranha Plant was such a perfect set for me.
I recently received this set as a birthday gift. It's one of my favorite Lego sets :D
Just imagining how more amazing it will look if you create a background and maybe attach a motor to this set ❤️
Technic always catching strays in your videos and I'm not going to stand for it any longer

Research all day long! I appreciate that some people appreciate the work I put into the small details, thank you 🙏
the four sets together look a lot better than i would have imagined
Like sculptures in a museum.
It looks so real, incredible and my most favourite Nintendo Set yet.
This was by far my favorite Lego set to build! It just brings me so much joy to look at
This and Jaws are two of my favorite sets of the year, huge win here!

@@OUCHquestionmark I didn't know that, and you're totally right! It's a slightly different Luigi sprite too, he's a little taller in the GBA game.
Couldn’t help noticing that the piranha plant stem needs to be rotated, but great review!
I'll definitely be picking this one up! It is a complete masterpiece. I love the quality of your reviews! Keep up the great work!
I loved this one too! I had a ton of fun with the colored tiles for the pixel art style
Can't wait to get mine. The second I saw it I knew I'd get it.
On the one hand I don't live the price per piece ratio, but Super Mario World is my favorite video game of all time and gives me so much pure joy.

Lego has become so much more innovative from when I was a kid. I can’t even imagine 10 years from now..
If you’re into modular LEGO city, you can put that on top of a building to set as a promotional display.
This set was so much fun to build and looks really cool on display. I really hope they do something similar with the Zelda theme at some point. Having a pink hair Link from a Link to the Past at the same scale would be so neat.

Strange set, 8bit check, technic check, Mario check, not a figurine? I was on the fence but the unique build is winning me over.
I’m 38 years old and just bought this lmao it’s so cool!
5:48 I personally think it’s a great way to judge a set because it’s a fact. You can’t argue with the hard numbers of the piece count and the price.
Some people seem to disagree! Thank you for that!
Oh Tiago, Technic isn't that bad. Some of the amazing star wars sets couldn't exist without it. I actually love the complexity of it. 😊
finally!!!! was waiting for this one:)
Just wait until they hit an enemy! Having to hound Yoshi when he sprints away is so annoying, especially when he falls into a pit!😂

Luigi gets ignored, just like in the real game (beating Bowser as Luigi still gets a "Thank you Mario" ending! Justice for Luigi!)
This looks amazing!!!
Pretty cool, only sucks that it depends on a rubber band that will fall apart in a couple of years.
One thing i love about tiago is that he responds to every early comment
No I don't...
