Definitely an important topic for me, since the main protagonist and antagonist of my current project are both skalds. Music and storytelling are super important in the story. >.> And also used for comedic effect as well as for important plot things. The same character who tells the tale of how the drakalfar got their dragons also establishes that this culture has its own fantasy version of *99 Bottles of Beer on the Wall*.
Because of the value drakalfar place on storytelling, becoming a skald is considered an acceptable career path for members of the nobility, including the younger siblings of the ruling monarch.

One thing I would like to see in a fantasy world is an alternate version of the Olympics where is stationary in people can gamble on it

This is an interesting idea would dying hair be considered something that can be in fine art and a status symbol

Absolutely. Or hair decorations. I have one culture that identifies themselves through the shells plaited in their hair.

Really, can you tell me more? With mine, their natural hair color is shades of blue, green, and violet, so i was thinking the color of the dye and the design as well as decorations woukd be a symbol of wealth and power @JustInTimeWorlds

When you mention gambling that made me think of some kind of shape-shifting or doppelganger Mafia will they would have sayings loaded dice and a million faces or never cause problems with your true face

The United Kingdom of Musical Instruments doesn’t have artistic expressions and sports much different from those done by the human countries it cohabits with. But it does have its own separate traditions for table games which are not pure chance that whatever humans play, they nominally use a double set of material with the same number of players, which is recalled in the terminology of the “Greater Game” that it uses officially for these games. In all cases except playing cards, where the extra material actually has a distinct value continued from the usage of literal paper money for playing pieces, it just reduplicates the pieces of the games. In the cases of Checkers/Draughts and Chess, it isn’t even strictly necessary to play with it outside of conservative events because the material obeys different rules from human play: Checkers/Draughts treats capturing as implicitly non-jumping and Chess allows any type of (major) piece to promote to a piece with Chess King moves, often added to any longer range moves, among other reductions of irregularities in the rules from human play.

Another element of arts is that, more than politics, war, and philosophy, the conflicts and strains of a culture are fought there. It is also where taboos of a society play. What arts are created in your setting to be acceptable and what arts are created to not be acceptable say a lot about their societies. Arts are an active battleground of bans, censorship, celebration, co-option, provocation, and satire where economics, politics, morality, and philosophy fight.

How would you ever get time to play with all this intricate detail? You could spend years and years developing all of this unimportant information (to your players) and never get to the actual game. I would rather play a strangely random fantastical game with no need to find out the family history and motivations of the average NPC. Beer & Pretzels, roll dice.

OMG, this so misses the point. You don't have to develop all this information to the players, and you shouldn't. The players only need to see the surface layer of the world, not the whole thing. To take a perfect beer-and-pretzels game, StarCraft, one of the things that makes the Protoss memorable is their greeting, "En taro Adun." You don't have to know what the greeting means for it to make them feel unique and alive. And then later, when the Protoss leader Tassadar sacrifices his life to give the players an opportunity to win the campaign, they suddenly start saying "En taro Tassadar," and you realize that Adun must have been the name of a great hero to the Protoss all along. Again, the game doesn't tell, and doesn't have to tell, who Adun was and what he did. Although you can research and find that out if it intrigues you, in the game that all stays backstage, while the players get to enjoy the show onstage.
