Penny Mordaunt (Leader of the House of Commons) did what most women in 50s do - wore flats to go over the cobblestones - changed into heels for the ceremony. She also carried a "big ass sword" throughout - at a right angle - and stood the entire time. So kudos to the woman for her strength and stamina - and doing what the boys do - but in heels!
She still could have worn a matching patent leather flat with a gold buckle to bring the outfit together. I mean, it's not like she was riding the subway to the event
Princess Charolette looked like a mini Princess Leia to me and I was very here for it! Them being in red, white and, blue was definitely an interesting observation I didn’t pick up on, intentional or not it’s a fun nod once noticed.
Oh, I don’t really follow them so I don’t know if I’ve really seen her name spelled out. My friend’s is with an “O” so that’s just what I default to. I think people have a tendency to default to the spelling they’re familiar with when it comes to names (ie Mark vs Marc, Ashley vs Ashleigh, Alyson vs Alison etc) and since I’m not interacting with her 1:1 I don’t really see it as a problem, we knew who I was referring to. If I ever address a personal letter to the Princess though I’ll make sure I get it right😉😁

Yes, I agree…Princess Anne. I read a comment, by one in UK, saying they were tired of Princess Anne dressing like a man. Surely for the Coronation she could have worn a dress. As a smug American who is an avid reader and read everything that was happening, I had to reply. I explained the Princess’ role which dates back to the 15th Century when the monarch was protected by a Gold-Stick-In-Waiting and a Silver-Stick-In-Waiting. The King asked his SISTER to be his Gold-Stick which required her to ride a horse in protection of his carriage leading 6000 soldiers back to Buckingham Palace. The King was honoring Princess Anne with one of the most important jobs in the Coronation as a thank-you for her loyalty to the Royal Family. The Princess was honored to be the King’s Royal bodyguard. I might have added something snarky about a gown on a horse and one or two other things…lol. Thanks. Enjoyed this.
Princess Anne rocks! She was a competitor in the 1976 Olympic Games and is probably the most accomplished horsewoman among the royals, apart from her daughter Zara, who won an Olympic silver medal in 2012. She was interviewed on CBC last week and said how pleased she was to be chosen as the Gold Stick, especially as it solved her dress problem! In 1974 when some idiot tried to kidnap her she responded “not bloody likely!”. I have no doubt that if the need arose she would have been a very effective bodyguard for her brother.
Princess Anne can do no wrong in my eyes. She wears dresses and ladies suits all the time. I listen to no critics of the princess royal, because clearly they are dumb
Dee Marie the Princess Royal does not like messing about and her role in the Coronation involved accompanying her brothers carriage from Westminster Abbey to Buckingham Palace on horseback. I think she had to wear a uniform as she was the King's protector and changing clothes would not have been possible if the ceremony was to proceed smoothly .
Funny how the person from the UK doesn't know that Princess Anne had to specifically wear that outfit because of her role in the coronation. Which i'm sure she was fine with since that meant she didn't have to think about what to wear lol
Also, the men, such as Prince Harry and Rishi Sunak, were wearing morning suits, not tuxedos or tails. Morning suits are traditionally worn with gray striped pants, not black.
I know Princess Anne’s position as like a protector to the King is ceremonial, but make no mistake, this woman would f*ck someone up if they tried to mess with her brother. Looked an armed kidnapper in the eye and said “Not bloody likely!” Iconic.
14:38 Her name is Zara Tindall and she does not get money from the taxpayers. She has some long-running endorsements from her days as an Olympian and her husband earned his wealth when he was a pro athlete.
@@naurrr No, that’s true. She’s a horse physiotherapist, which she trained as whilst competing as a profession horsewoman. Her husband had a long career in professional rugby and played for England. They aren’t supported by the tax payer.
11:06 Prince Harry is wearing morning dress, likewise for Rishi Sunak. It is worn in Britain for weddings and for some horse races, such as the Royal Ascot. The silver tie is standard for morning dress, as are the grey striped trousers. The various colourful robes being worn are for their respective orders of chivalry. They are standard, so one can't really make them more interesting. William, Kate and Anne are wearing robes for the Order of the Garter, Royal Victorian Order and the Order of the Thistle respectively. Harry is actually only wearing one military medal, his campaign medal for (I think) Afghanistan. The other ones on his medal bar, I believe, are various jubilee medals.
@@sharonrout8165Actually, she did not. The Queen Mother had her own coronation crown made, as was custom for every queen consort. This is the only time in recent history that the queen consort didn’t have a new one made for the coronation.
So...the wife of the first passionately environmentalist monarch was the first queen consort to refuse to waste energy and resources making a new crown and recycled instead? 🥰
I kept looking at Penny. The color of her dress and her frame was stunning. Wow, she is a woman still in her prime. Brilliant look, just brilliant and beautiful and classy. Her headwear was lovely, her makeup was perfect and one could tell homegirl worked out to carry that 8lb sword.
I think she was the best dressed there. That outfit was amazing and she performed her tasks perfectly. It was great to see a woman having a major role and not being a mere subservient “wife of”.
Penny was definitely a star of the coronation. Considering all of the standing walking and carrying of historical artifacts that she had to do during the coronation I don’t blame her for wearing those flats on the way there. Especially since she was the first woman to ever take on this role in its history.
I am not a supporter of Penny Mordaunt's party (the Conservatives) BUT she was superb. She carries a 3.6kg (nearly 8 pound) ceremonial sword in front of her for 51 minutes without wavering. Not a movement.
The necklace wasn’t an “homage” to Queen Elizabeth II. It’s Queen Victoria’s coronation necklace, which has been used by every queen regnant and consort since Victoria. The “homage” to Elizabeth II are precisely the embroidered corgis on the bottom of the dress, which were her mother-in-law’s beloved pups. The crown Camila wore was Queen Mary of Teck’s Crown, Charles’ paternal great grandmother, not the one Queen Elizabeth the Queen Mother wore. A R
Why bother. Everything he said was ill researched, as if no research whatsoever. "I'm also English" British you mean? Lol and " king "Edwards crown 😂. Black velvet robe. Camillas bolero which was the straps for the robes... The spinel. The fact that the imperial state crown is less magnificent. It isn't.

The insignia on Princess Kate’s robes are that of the Royal Victorian Order. Queen Elizabeth made Kate a Dame Grand Cross of the Royal Victorian Order in 2019. Also the gorgeous embroidery was not only thistles but roses, shamrocks and daffodils. These are the floral emblems of Scotland, England, Ireland and Wales. Kate had the same floral embroidery on her wedding gown.
You really should have got a pic of Penny Mourdant from the actual ceremony. Her shoes were sparkly high heels. They were embellished so she didn't wear them walking to the ceremony in the rain. Not sure about calling Bruce Oldfield Diana's designer. He's a couturier for the British upper classes and all their little events. He's not the designer I associate most with Diana - that's Catherine Walker.
Yes. Not including Penny's look from the actual ceremony suggests poor research for this specific video. Especially considering the fact that her photos from the inside the Abbey are all over internet now. As for Bruce Oldfield, he's been doing Camilla's clothing pretty regularly for years. So talking about Diana and him now, as if it's a new thing, is looking for drama where it doesn't exist. Especially considering the fact that Bruce was quoted saying: "I gave Diana her glamour and Camilla her confidence" almost ten years ago. So he evidently was fine with dressing both of the women.
To be fair, the shoes she wore in the ceremony were just as odd a fit with the dress. The flats were clearly a transitional shoe BUT...if you know you're playing a huge part in this huge day, get transitional flats that match as well as a decent pair of shoes to wear to the ceremony.
One thing that is consistent at every royal event is Princess Anne pulling a look. She always looks great, even in the ugliest thing she owns it, her confidence is unmatched
Here to say that Penny Mourdant did actually wear heeled silvery shoes during the whole ceremony, which considering she had to hold a sword while staying still for almost the entirety of it...appreciate. The flats were probably for comfort pre-event since she knew she had quite a bit of time ahead of her where she would be standing in heels with eyes on her left, right, and centre.
I only know this info because I craft headpieces and I had a crown that needed the velvet inner lining put in it along with faux ermine. The ermine is attached to the velvet. It’s called the velvet cap with ermine trim. Which is hilariously simple when you consider the ornate names of the other parts of crowns. For instance, the orb at the top of a closed or imperial crown is called the monde. Just thought I would post this in case anyone was curious.
Queen Camilla was wearing the Queen Mary Crown who was also a Queen Consort to George V. the dogs were to represent one of the Charities she really supports which is Battersea Dogs Home. Most of the embellishments on the dresses are symbolic, they are not there for fashion, Princess Anne had to ride a horse during the Procession. Also people are not Coronated they are crowned, Princess Diana's favourite designer was Catherine Walker. Bruce Oldfield is a designer for special occasion dresses and has worked for over 50 years within the Industry. Many members of the Royal Family have used his skills.
Agree with all of this, thank You. I am shocked that this video contained so many mistakes! Luke generally does his research. I don't know what happened here.
I think the story about it doesn't effecting what luke said, after all everything what Luke said ended up on the eye of his fashion stand point, anyway it's indeed looks tacky, kinda wish it was positioned more closely to the flower embroidery, even if its symbolize something meaningful but if it applied badly it looses the meaning.
Traditionally, peers wear coronation robes (red with ermine cape, with rows of ermine depending on rank) and coronets. Charles didn't want to burden people with the requirement to get their old tattered robes fit to wear, so he asked people to wear suits and dresses. (this was later rescinded, and you will find peers in ermine in pictures). That said, people wore their honors instead. William is a Knight of the Garter, so he wore the mantle and star of the order , with military uniform underneath. You will see a lot of men wearing their Garter robes, specifically Prince Edward. Catherine , The Princess of Wales, is a member of the Royal Victorian Order, and so wore that mantle over her white dress. Sophie, The Duchess of Edinburgh, also wore her honors of the Victorian Order as well.
Could You possibly post here a link to a few photos of peers in ermine? I haven't been able to spot them and I was sure that the decision was made for peers not to wear ceremonial robes (except for the royal family, who wore honors, as you said).
I was disappointed to see Andrew in gater robes as the late Queen forbid him from wearing them in public then it was reported King Charles wasn't going to allow it then changed it. Then Harry not allowed to be in uniform but ask to wear a suit then they made issue of the suit. Smh.
As did Princess Alexandra, QEII’s cousin, and the Duchess of Gloucester as the Queen had honored them with the Victorian order. You would notice Andrew and his brother were wearing their Garter regalia as did Princess Alexandra’s brothers the Duke of Kent and Prince Michael, and cousin the Duke of Gloucester wore their Garter robes and regalia. As for Diana being there, she might have been there as a guest but she was divorced from Charles so would not be in the coronation regalia. Seriously, I wouldn’t want Diana and Charles still married and miserable. Camilla suits Charles and is a great support to him.
I have to disagree with you on Katie Perry's look. Leather and cleavage is inappropriate for the Abby. She should have saved it for Easter Sunday at the Bunny Ranch.
I thought everyone with an interest in fashion history would know Prince Harry was in a morning suit. A black coat with tails, grey pants, and and a double-breasted waistcoat are de rigeur for formal daytime events, especially royal ones. At my own daytime wedding when i had just graduated from art college, thats what my husband and his attendants wore. I was just a 22 year old American, but I knew enough to desire this form of dress.
Everything he said was wrong... Literally everything. The fact that he thought the straps of Camillas robes were a bolero. That Charles rone was black velvet. Queen Mary's crown called the queen mother's. Not knowing the name of the surcoat. Not knowing the orders. Referring to the crown as king Edwards crown. It just shows that he did no research. Every article about any of this was pretty accurate. Just goes to show he's full of it and makes you wonder what else he's just made up.
I love the color of Katy's outfit, the hat, styling, and the shape of the clothes, but I hate the fabric. If it was in pretty much any different fabric, then I'd love it. My favorite look was Princess Charlotte's. I especially loved Princess Kate and Princess Charlotte's headpieces; absolutely stunning.
@@janetplanet09 nobody could see from where Katy was sitting. There were TV screens put up so that the guests in the other pews could follow. Hope her hat wasn't too big to even block those out😄
For FYI only- not a hate comment: because I’m not sure the title quip is for clicks (she’s got nerve wearing Diana’s designer), butt...Bruce Oldfield was Camilla go to designer for years before he designed for Diana. (As told in an interview with “The Guardian”5/7/23 to Steve Rose). Women of the Royal Family fall under so many restrictions and rules when it comes to their fashion choices, making it a little stagnant. Which is why we love HauteLeMode is reviewing it! The “bolero” Camilla is said to be wearing is actually straps to keep the cape on over her coat dress worn over her dress.😅 The embroidery represents the nations of the UK: Roses for England, thistles for Scotland, daffodils for Wales and shamrocks for Northern Ireland. Catherine had the same done on her gown along with her flower crown (which I loved because it looked like a Tiara!)in silver. QE2 also paid homage on her coronation gown with all the flowers. The embroidery is a tradition, not necessarily a fashion choice. The dogs representing Queen Camilla personal pets may have been too much? Butt… these dresses will probably never be worn up again (yet Catherine may find a way to upcycle😂 hers), they’ll end up on display at the museum becoming historical pieces. Here’s hoping that the ballet pink nail varnish and nude lipstick can be “more pigmented” soon (a repeat of Catherine’s red nails at Easter). Everyone honored QE2 by respecting and following her preferences.
Please say Northern Ireland instead of Ireland, hundreds of years of colonialism , millions of deaths to finally gain freedom and become a republic. I know people outside don’t think it’s a big deal but most Irish people don’t want to be mentioned as a nation of the uk. Sorry this sounds so over dramatic but u get what i mean.

Queen Elizabeth II wore her coronation dress multiple times. I would hope the new sustainability-conscious monarchy would be willing to do the same. I almost hope they don't though because that embroidery is just so obnoxious.
@@yay-cat the royal cypher (which is how this monogram is called) was probably an homage to the late Queen. She had her cypher emroidered on the back of the train during her coronation. I hoped that Luke would include this information, as it is the key to understanding WHY Camilla/Bruce Oldfield even chose to include it.
Camilla's crown was worn by Queen Mary who was Queen Elizabeth's grandmother. It originally had 8 arches but they removed 4. The big diamonds are the Cullinans which replaced the Kohinoor which has colonial implications. The necklace was worn by Queen Victoria, Queen Elizabeth the Queen Mum, and Queen Elizabeth II,
Camilla's necklace was definately not a homage. It is the necklace which has been worn during the coronations by every Queen since 1902 - this jewellery piece's name is literally "the coronation necklace". When we are looking for the homages in jewellery, we have to look at the crown. (And speaking of, it is NOT Queen Elizabeth's mother's crown as stated in the video, but her grandmother's - Queen Mary's and it was made in 1911. Elizabeth's mother wore "the Crown of Queen Elizabeth The Queen Mother", which was made for her in 1937.) Some of the diamonds in "the Crown of Queen Mary", were, according to Camilla's wishes, taken out and replaced with the diamonds from Elizabeth II's private collection - that was the homage. Another thing, the cypher on the bottom of the dress. It was probably another homage to the late Queen, as she had her cypher embroidered on the back of the train during her coronation. I agree that it gives too much of a logomania vibe on the dress, but it's important to know why it is there and I hoped that Luke would include this information. Bruce Oldfield has been doing Camilla's clothes pretty regularly for years. So can we stop making some kind of drama out of this? No, she has not "got the nerve to wear Diana's designer". It's literally her standard designer. And he is proud to have been able to dress both of the ladies - almost ten years ago he was quoted saying "I gave Diana her glamour and Camilla her confidence". Overall, I'm kind of underwhelmed after this video. I was expecting much more comparisons and pieces of historical information from Luke. And I am surprised at seeing mistakes! 😲 This video, in my opinion, is below his usual standard. Royal fashion and it's historical "house codes" (especially when it comes to the jewellery!) don't have to be everybody's thing. And there is nothing wrong with that. But if it's not Your thing, why even talk about it? And why include segments about the jewellery which are obviously false to everybody who has any interest in this subject...? This video would be great if it would focus on the guests's looks. Talking about historical garments, necklaces and crowns, without doing, let's be honest, any research, is bound to end badly.
Agreed 💯 with this. Historical robes worn for a coronation supersede mere fashion and are embellished in certain ways for symbolic reasons, not mere stylistic accents at the whim of a designer.
Hi Luke, St Edwards crown has no colonial history, it's very old, and gems can also be purchased, even in the 1600's ;) The imperial state crown does have a colonial history. The crown of Camilla would never be the same as QE II as she was a queen regnant not a queen consort like Camillia or the Queen Mother. Camilla indeed wore the crown of a previous queen consort to reduce the cost of the crowning. In this case it was the crown of Queen Mary, the grandmother of QE II, as the crown of the Queen Mother has indeed a contestend diamand in there, and Charles wanted to avoid that controversy.
Sure some celebrities/ music artists would have just as many problematic items in their wardrobe if they were historical figures. Think some already do. Maybe every time someone dons regalia styles themselves a king or queen or uses tacky glitter crown on merchandise etc they are taxed and that money sustains royal families around the world. The fact we have these traditions brings in a feck load of tourist pennies. Don't think we'd make as much selling Rishi Sunak tea towels.
You're great but to be fair to Charles, he's first spoke about the environment and been into sustainability since the 1960s. He is incredibly knowledgeable and active in that area.
Knowledgeable isn't the right word, as he's also associated it with kinds of woo-woo beliefs that made it easy to brush off. And it's not like it's that possible to live very sustainably as a royal, though at this point it's not like he'd survive out in the wild.
I will agree to this. The only three things I actually like about the man are his lifelong interest in nature and environmental sustainability, his interest and respect for many religions besides the Church of England (including Eastern and Middle Eastern schools of belief), and his love of classic literature. That's it.
@@rosalindasculturalcabana8581 Even worse, I'm from outside the commonwealth and I know the difference between the environmentalism of the 60's and the current day. He has his interests that he advocates for, and surely had been a source of funding for many valuable projects, but the Sackler family have been great patrons of the arts we you don't have to hand it to them for using their unethically gained wealth and influence on something positive without addressing the system that got them their money. And you can't deny that he's also promoted anti scientific beliefs with regards to homeopathy etc., meddling in research and whatnot, which isn't exactly promoting evidence-based action on climate change, or anything else other than a waste of resources. That some of his pet projects have had a positive impact doesn't change the fact that I don't see a monarchs pet projects as a good way to advance environmentalism, or any cause that affects us all in a post-feudal society. Not gonna lie, it would be a hoot to see him promote environmental justice and reparations for resource extraction from former colonies though.
Penny actually had heels on throughout the ceremony - she stood holding a crystal encrusted sword for a very long time. People can't stop talking about her over here in the UK
@@marywinslow5808 no, this pic is after the ceremony. If you Google search for her you will find photos of her in metallic stilettos that looked amazing
I appreciate you being unbiased. I am not the biggest camilla fan. I did read that the robes the king and queen wore were over 200 yrs old. I loved Penny's look and I understand the shoe, she had to stand the entire length of the ceremony.
This was what was meant to happen in the first place. The queen had to put her paws and destroy a wonderful woman ( Lady Diana) life for vanity and to "fix" the monarchys' reputation( Karma is a bitch, bc this backfire)
Not only stand, but hold up a heavy sword. The flats were definitely understandable. I would have thought she's a crazy person if I saw her wearing heels.
When you mentioned the black streaks on the white coat being ermine tail tips... idk why that's what really got to me. Maybe because there's so many it bothered me. But also again remembering how small an ermine is and how many it would take to make pelts that size. More than there are dots on the pelt, surely. Just disturbing.

They were likely slaughtered in the 1930s. I don’t understand people having an issue with this who consume animal products, eat meat, wear leather and drive in cars with leather seats. Ermine skins are apparently of higher value in today’s society than those of cows or sheep.
It was a re-wear from Charles' great grandfather. No new ermine were harmed in his wearing of a recycled robe of state. Actually, all of his clothes were re-wears / family pieces, except for his pants and under shirt.
Half of these comments didn't understand the symbolism of the ceremony and how that is reflected in the dress, aka Penny Mordaunt's motif. This comes from the Court Dress of the Privy Council of which she is the Head of. The leaf, emblazoned on the Court Dress, was feminised: in her words. Also the type of sleeve had to allow freedom of movement in order to carry the Sword of State but also covering her arms. The dogs on Camilla dress are dogs which Camilla and Charles got from a rescue home but are King Charles Spaniels. This type of dog was named after the last Charles, Charles II, Symbolism!

Kati Perry's Westwood look did not fit well The jacket was a size too small and the skirt was too tight, showed her foundations. Colour was marvellous What were you looking at?
I didn't realize Westwood coutured clothes that would appear purposely unattractive on a beautiful woman. Perhaps Ms Perry should source out a different designer that would enhance her beauty .
I think she stood out so much because she was so off the color palette. Everyone wore blue/white/red or neutrals and she was the only one in this pastel color. The vivienne Westwood cut didn’t help either. I personally thought she looked great on her own but surrounded by other people she looks like an extra at a Disney parade unfortunately
@@GullibleTarget the garments were not solely made for function, they were made *to be seen.* Therefore, it’s fashion. These people always took their appearance extremely seriously.
Just a small correction. The 2nd Crown the King Charles III wore after the actual crowning ceremony. The big Red Cabochon stone on the front of the crown is not a big red Ruby even though it's famously called the Black Prince Ruby. It is a big red Spinel. Far more rare!
I as about to comment that to defend my gurl Penny who was on point. She had sparkly high heels and she stood for freaking two hours without moving, good for her
She must have worked out in the gym for months to be fit enough to walk and stand with that sword held upright! She's a rock star! Not to mention, it was a first for a woman to get that role.

Penny Mordaunt was on her feet throughout the entire ceremony, wearing heels - she just wore the flats coming in. Camilla's "bolero" effect was holding on her train. Charles' train is vintage, worn by his grandfather, George VI, and spruced up for Charles to wear.
king Charles wore a lot of pieces from his grandfather’s coronation, for whatever reason idgf, but, they have actual names, and they sound epic af, the whole week I was hearing those names dropping all the time, and now I need to name my cloths too, the fur cape - the cape is not black it’s crimson red velvet - from King George VI's, called “The Robe of State”, the purple robe - George VI, “The Robe of Estate” - it’s taken off for the coronation part, under there is a white shirt - George VI, it’s called “The Colobium Sindonis” over the shirt there is a gold robe - from George VI, called “The Supertunica” over that another gold cape - George 4th “The Imperial Mantle” over that - a gold belt - George VI, “The Coronation Sword Belt” 1 glove - George VI, “The Coronation Glove” - like a gauntlet - it’s ceremonial accessory, and on top all the royal regalia, the crown etc.
Speaking of Penny Mordaunt. She wore a beige/taupe heeled shoe during the coronation. Possibly she didn't want to ruin the shoes in the rain and changed from the ballet flats once inside. Also at 12:40 during the video Prince George became Princess George. ;)
I lived for Penny! I felt like her head piece kind of gave Greek sun god vibes. Also, I think she was wearing a heel at the ceremony because I’m confused seeing these shoes🤔 maybe because it was raining and she didn’t want to have wet shoes while standing the entire ceremony and holding the sword because it would make it harder so threw these on last minute? A matching blue flat with gold embroidery would have been lovely though!
Your jacket would look wrinkled too if you had been stabbed in the back as many times as Harry. The monarchy needs to disappear, like the day after Elizabeth's funeral. Ridiculous in this day and age. Princess Anne - who has been called the hardest working royal in The Firm - was ahead of her time when she refused royal titles for her children.
Penny did an outstanding job her dress had the same embellishments as Princess Catherine and they embellished the design of Camilla's gown which was traditional (and very heavy). The Jewels worn are part of the Royal Jewels. Everything was beautiful including All Attire. Princess Anne wore traditional garb and YES wore TROUSERS under her Robe as She was to RIDE HER HORSE behind the golden carriage. Anne is a wonderful outstanding woman. I have met her and found her down to earth , tells it as it is with NO arrogance or Pomp and would protect her Brother to the last breath.
o m g haha you are so great!! this was so much fun!! i can hardly wait to see some of your other stuff!! (really need this, too, been feeling a bit glum) Diana is my queen too.
Fashion doesn't happen in Coronations. It's all tradition and regimented and coded. It's very essential that the designers are all UK etc. The embroidery is all necessary symbols of family, office and country. William's trousers are set by military rules as an fyi. Princess Anne is always impeccable. The PM was wearing the correct full formal gear. There is protocol for that. The ladies should remain 'conservative' and simple. The coronation is completely regimented and choice is extremely restricted. You should know that.

@@ReginasHauntedLibrary Oh, the double-breasted suit! My favourite kind, when it comes to men's fashion. It's such a shame that hardly anyone wears them, let alone wear them tailored properly. Thanks for the information about Wall Street Journal's pictorial, I'll be sure to check it out. And speaking of Charles' style, it's also worth noting that he was the pioneer in royal/famous people's circles, when it comes to rewearing and reparing clothes. He's been doing this genuinely for decades, long before it was the thing that would be applauded by the public. And long before celebrities started preaching about 'sustainability' (while taking private jets everywhere). He also believes in using natural fabrics instead of synthetic fibres, which is in my opinion, the actual, true sustainability, instead of celebrity greenwashing - woolen shawl or a sweater is not only more comfortable to wear, but well taken care of, will last You years, unlike the acrylic one. He lauched Campain For Wool to support the wool industry. I think he doesn't get nearly enough credit for his efforts (and for his style in general) in the fashion world. Another interesting thing. Jimmy Choo was only able to start his shoe empire thanks to the grant from Charles' charity - Prince’s Trust.
That's true also he is a designer that is how he makes a living and some even have contracts with them to do work and it's a royal family things not just one. Some people try to make mountains out of hills
Hi Luke - having avoided all things coronation like the veritable plague - I was really interested to see your take on royal garb and enjoyed this thoroughly. It was the royal review I didn't know I wanted. Thanks hun. Greetings from across the pond.
_says he's english_ Doesn't know that Camilla's crown is Queen Mary's crown (made 1911) or that the necklace is the coronation necklace that every queen after Victoria (not including) has worn on her coronation. Camilla wasn't paying tribute to Queen Elizabeth II, she was following tradition. Edit: You have a second jewellery sin!!! Princess Catherine actually DID pay tribute to the late Queen by wearing one of her necklaces. It's the George VI Festoon necklace, for those who may be curious. Elizabeth's father (King George VI) had the necklace made for her and she wore it consistently throughout her life.
Also British is the correct phrase. Unless youre from the early 18tg century you're not English. Unless you're just pretentious which he clearly is. Not only that he called st Edward's crown king Edwards crown. Called Charles robe black velvet. Said the imperial State crown is less magnificent when it contains one of the largest diamonds on earth. Doesn't know what a morning suit is. He's pretty full of sht. Very fox news.
I think with Penny Mourdant, she had heels on for the ceremony and changed into the black flats after probably because her feet hurt! Which is probably what I would have done.
Designers aren't owned by customers, let alone one dead for almost 26 years. It's possible Camilla was purchasing Bruce Oldfield designs before Diana did. A simple fact check would make clear Diana dropped Bruce, like she did so many people in her life, along with the Barnados charity he holds so dear. Well done on a beautiful design Mr Oldfield.
Agree. Bruce Oldfield himself said that Diana threw him out and went with other designers before she was even separated from KC. He said that was the way it crumbled and didn't have any ill will towards her.
Queen Camilla looked stunning ,Bruce Oldfield did an amazing job on her gown .Camilla has been a loyal client of his for years .btw do your homework she wore Queen Mary's crown
@@gnostic268 Bruce Oldfield has also been designing dresses for Queen Camilla for over 10 years. Diana has been dead for 25. A designer is allowed to design for whomever they want.
1) Camilla's crown was the one made for Queen Mary, with lesser cleavages of the Cullinan diamond taking the place of the Koh-i-Noor, which had originally been front-and-center. 2) The "bolero" was not a jacket at all, but rather the straps of a structure on which the ermine robe was secured. 3) Charles was never "fashionable". He wears bespoke suits and uniforms from his Savile Row tailor. Classic men's wear. Also, the legs of uniforms depend on the tasks to be performed in them and the period in history in which the uniform was designed. Those who wore dark morning coats and gray/striped trousers were simply following the traditional rules of tailoring.
Why would the spouse of an elected official need a title. I know the U.S. has 'the First Lady'. In Europe, presidents' or other elected heads of state's spouses don't get distinctions, I think.
The partner of the prime minister is referred to by their name. The UK doesn't do the weird American thing of referring to women by the titles of their husband. Also, I think Prince William is properly referred to as HRH William, Prince of Wales, or HRH Prince William. It's a very common mistake to refer to nobility as [Title] [Name] of [Place], but that's never right.
No hating involved but the big “ruby” is actually a red spinel, originally belonged to the Black Prince and was worn by Henry V on his helmet at Agincourt. One of THE historic royal gems.
This is, and will be, the only coronation content I have voluntarily consumed

Penny Mordaunt (Leader of the House of Commons) did what most women in 50s do - wore flats to go over the cobblestones - changed into heels for the ceremony. She also carried a "big ass sword" throughout - at a right angle - and stood the entire time. So kudos to the woman for her strength and stamina - and doing what the boys do - but in heels!
And also didn't stab Chuck or Cammiknickers - I give her points for that.
Penny chose the sensible option. Good for her.

Not only are Princess Anne and Zara Olympians but they were both European Champions, and Zara was World Champion.
Also - the necklace is only worn at the coronation and was originally made for Queen Victoria. It’s worn by every Queen at the coronation since. 😊
Correct. It is traditional for the ceremony rather than an homage. Camilla’s dress would’ve been designed with the necklace in mind.
Queen Elizabeth often worn the necklace to stage dinners so not only for the coronation
Also, the men, such as Prince Harry and Rishi Sunak, were wearing morning suits, not tuxedos or tails. Morning suits are traditionally worn with gray striped pants, not black.
Prince Harry had on something that would have been worn to a funeral. I found it disrespectful.

Penny Mordaunt wore beige heels during the service. I think the black flats were comfy ones she wore on the way there.
justice for Penny and her amazing outfit

Ouch. It is his video, not yours.
Diana wore Valentino, Versace, Chanel...and her wedding gown was an Emanuel creation...
Carrying that 8 kg sword with not a waver over those hours is no mean fete
To be fair, the shoes she wore in the ceremony were just as odd a fit with the dress. The flats were clearly a transitional shoe BUT...if you know you're playing a huge part in this huge day, get transitional flats that match as well as a decent pair of shoes to wear to the ceremony.
One thing that is consistent at every royal event is Princess Anne pulling a look. She always looks great, even in the ugliest thing she owns it, her confidence is unmatched
I don't think I've ever clicked on a video this fast

Diana was NEVER going to be queen and people seriously need to get over it.
I was disappointed to see Andrew in gater robes as the late Queen forbid him from wearing them in public
then it was reported King Charles wasn't going to allow it then changed it.

Yes. Luke’s lack of knowledge and research was extremely obvious in this video.
And Harry managed to make the suit like shyte.

For FYI only- not a hate comment: because I’m not sure the title quip is for clicks (she’s got nerve wearing Diana’s designer), butt...Bruce Oldfield was Camilla go to designer for years before he designed for Diana.

@@yay-cat she has no choice over the monogram 😒😬😔
Understood. But….still really did make the garment look ugly 😬
Camilla's crown was worn by Queen Mary who was Queen Elizabeth's grandmother. It originally had 8 arches but they removed 4. The big diamonds are the Cullinans which replaced the Kohinoor which has colonial implications. The necklace was worn by Queen Victoria, Queen Elizabeth the Queen Mum, and Queen Elizabeth II,
The coronation diamond necklace has been worn by every queen, consort or regnant, since Queen Victoria.
Elizabeth's mother wore "the Crown of Queen Elizabeth The Queen Mother", which was made for her in 1937.)
Some of the diamonds in "the Crown of Queen Mary", were, according to Camilla's wishes, taken out and replaced with the diamonds from Elizabeth II's private collection - that was the homage.
This video, in my opinion, is below his usual standard.
❤
👏🏼👏🏼👏🏼 exactly!
Completely agree - not fair to do a 'fashion' review on historical Coronation robes... usually love Luke's videos but this one annoyed me...

Knowledgeable isn't the right word, as he's also associated it with kinds of woo-woo beliefs that made it easy to brush off. And it's not like it's that possible to live very sustainably as a royal, though at this point it's not like he'd survive out in the wild.
@@sisuka6505 You clearly don't come from the environmental world or you'd know!
I will agree to this. The only three things I actually like about the man are his lifelong interest in nature and environmental sustainability, his interest and respect for many religions besides the Church of England (including Eastern and Middle Eastern schools of belief), and his love of classic literature. That's it.
@@sisuka6505 Look up his role as Duke of Cornwall.
I think because she would be taller than king Charles is why she is in flats.
@@marywinslow5808 no, this pic is after the ceremony. If you Google search for her you will find photos of her in metallic stilettos that looked amazing
I didn’t know who she was initially (watched from Canada), but she held my interest throughout the entire coronation. Most regal person there!
Penny Mordaunt's flats were a transitional item. She put on proper shoes for the ceremony as she was carrying the sword of state in front of Charles.
I appreciate you being unbiased. I am not the biggest camilla fan. I did read that the robes the king and queen wore were over 200 yrs old. I loved Penny's look and I understand the shoe, she had to stand the entire length of the ceremony.
She wore a nude heel during the ceremony.. the flats were just for the walk to the cathedral.
This was what was meant to happen in the first place. The queen had to put her paws and destroy a wonderful woman ( Lady Diana) life for vanity and to "fix" the monarchys' reputation( Karma is a bitch, bc this backfire)
Again, they could’ve matched
She actually switched her shoes later if I remember correctly, they were simple nude pumps
Not only stand, but hold up a heavy sword. The flats were definitely understandable. I would have thought she's a crazy person if I saw her wearing heels.
Penny had nude heals on during the Coronation ! After carrying a sword for three hours, she probably needed flats to put on afterwards.
Basically, a massacre in garment shape. It's a weasel. Doing the maths is nauseating. And when you add that ermines are white *in winter*, it only makes it worse...
@@meacelestin ….Oh Please!!! Cry me a River! When so many people are dying in War torn countries & living on the streets without the basic necessities, you’re crying over weasels?????? Unbelievable!
They were likely slaughtered in the 1930s. I don’t understand people having an issue with this who consume animal products, eat meat, wear leather and drive in cars with leather seats. Ermine skins are apparently of higher value in today’s society than those of cows or sheep.
@@meacelestinonly saying grace is that it is at least 150 years old at his point , and isn’t plastic.
It was a re-wear from Charles' great grandfather. No new ermine were harmed in his wearing of a recycled robe of state. Actually, all of his clothes were re-wears / family pieces, except for his pants and under shirt.
Such ignorance here. It is not the Queen Mothers crown AND THERE IS NO SUCH WORD AS CORONATED! The word is crowned.
I'm assuming it's Americans weighing in with their uneducated opinions.
He himself thinks he knows what he's talking about because "he has a passport for england" 🙄
@@ritalabarbera great Britain at any rate lol. He's always seemed like a smug little pretentious dweeb but now I loathe him more. Everything he said was wrong. Faux experts are a dime a dozen these days.
Yeah. It's odd penny doesn't have a uniform anyway since the Lord chamberlain and earl marshal seem to. Theirs are likely old or self commissioned. I wish she would have done it in black though with both silver and gold foliate embroidery. McQueen's embroiderers are particularly good at that embroidery style and have used court uniforms as inspiration several times on their clothes
Hi Luke, I really appreciate you not talking a lot about the children. After this coronation my recommended is full of stuff about those children and it rubs me the wrong way. I just want them to be able to live a private mediafree life. Have a nice day!
Agree. Well said👍
Kati Perry's Westwood look did not fit well The jacket was a size too small and the skirt was too tight, showed her foundations. Colour was marvellous What were you looking at?
That's how Westwood is supposed to look
I didn't realize Westwood coutured clothes that would appear purposely unattractive on a beautiful woman. Perhaps Ms Perry should source out a different designer that would enhance her beauty .
I thought she was the only person @ the gig that escaped frump town.
@@discardme222 I was just confused as to why she was there?
it's not about fashion...these are ceremonial robes.
It’s always about fashion. Royals were the original fashion trendsetters.
@@nameisamine they were not when it came to ceremonial garb. Its like telling the Pope his outfit is SO 300 A.D.

Just a small correction. The 2nd Crown the King Charles III wore after the actual crowning ceremony. The big Red Cabochon stone on the front of the crown is not a big red Ruby even though it's famously called the Black Prince Ruby. It is a big red Spinel. Far more rare!
Red spinels are far less expensive or rare than rubies.

Item number 46 of Wrong Facts in this video.
Camilla wore Queen Mary's crown. This was not the Queen mother's crown. It was Queen Elizabeth's grandmother's crown.
The King's robe was worn by his grandfather King George VI, Camilla's crown was worn by Queen Mary, George V wife and Queen Elizabeth's grandmother
Anne was the King's Ceremonial Bodyguard.. hence the uniform.
I believe Penny Mordant wore different shoes once she was indoors. So they may have been just for walking to the Abbey
I as about to comment that to defend my gurl Penny who was on point. She had sparkly high heels and she stood for freaking two hours without moving, good for her
And the trim was a special traditional design adapted for her outfit
Not to mention the sword weighs 11 or 12 pounds, and was held upright the whole time
@@pashatash Penny Mordaunt was spectacular!! Everything about her look and the sword was epic 👑💖
She must have worked out in the gym for months to be fit enough to walk and stand with that sword held upright! She's a rock star! Not to mention, it was a first for a woman to get that role.
There is no word such as coronated. The word is 'crowned".
The two little dogs !! Did I hear you say "the two little dogs". Tacky to put it mildly. Thank you for this review of the Coronation. I've never seen one before. Why,this is the best and I appreciate you.
First things first, before I finish the video, I just want to say, I’m so happy I come across your channel, I just love the way you describe everything in such vivid details, I can close my eyes and see the garment. I love how you give fashion history. I just luv you. Keep it coming 🥰
Shame so much was incorrect.
To me, the best fashion moments were from Royals from other countries. The Queen of Thailand had me dead with her outfit. Gorg!!
Queen Masenate of Lesotho was my hands-down favorite: from her bearing, to her gown, jewels and hat. Regal.
@@1957DLT yes, she was amazing!
For the men's.. it is known as Morning Dress and not a suit as the coat and trousers do not match.
Right. And it would not be worn with black pants, even if it looks better.
Penny Mordaunt was on her feet throughout the entire ceremony, wearing heels - she just wore the flats coming in. Camilla's "bolero" effect was holding on her train. Charles' train is vintage, worn by his grandfather, George VI, and spruced up for Charles to wear.
king Charles wore a lot of pieces from his grandfather’s coronation, for whatever reason idgf,
but, they have actual names, and they sound epic af, the whole week I was hearing those names dropping all the time, and now I need to name my cloths too,
the fur cape - the cape is not black it’s crimson red velvet - from King George VI's, called “The Robe of State”,
the purple robe - George VI, “The Robe of Estate” - it’s taken off for the coronation part,
under there is a white shirt - George VI, it’s called “The Colobium Sindonis”
over the shirt there is a gold robe - from George VI, called “The Supertunica”
over that another gold cape - George 4th “The Imperial Mantle”
over that - a gold belt - George VI, “The Coronation Sword Belt”
1 glove - George VI, “The Coronation Glove” - like a gauntlet - it’s ceremonial accessory,
and on top all the royal regalia, the crown etc.
Speaking of Penny Mordaunt. She wore a beige/taupe heeled shoe during the coronation. Possibly she didn't want to ruin the shoes in the rain and changed from the ballet flats once inside. Also at 12:40 during the video Prince George became Princess George. ;)
I thought she changed into sparkly heels. At least those were the photos I saw, perhaps I’m wrong though and my eyes deceived me?🤣
I lived for Penny!
Penny is the fashion icon I never knew I needed.
Yes I think since she was standing in heels for the entire ceremony, she just threw on those flats to relieve her feet after the ceremony
Penn M turned something slightly campy into something epic. She was awesome. Perfectly ceremonially robed, too.
Luke, did you not see a picture of the back of Harry’s suit? Dior should have sent an iron with hm . It was a wrinkled mess!
Yes the back of Harry's suit was wrinkled and it was sewn unbalanced ..that Dior was awful
Queen Camilla’s children’s names Laura and Tom were also embroidered on her gown above the dogs, if you didn’t know.
He definitely doesn't know.
I think he just wanted to shit on Camilla.
The word is “crowned”. It “coronated”!
Penny actually wore different shoes during the ceremony so she was standing the whole time there holding a sword IN HEELS. What a badass lady.
Penny Mourdant did wear a different shoe for the ceremony. The flats were for the outdoor, presumably because it was raining.
o m g haha you are so great!! this was so much fun!! i can hardly wait to see some of your other stuff!! (really need this, too, been feeling a bit glum) Diana is my queen too.
I was there and Catherine just took my breath away
Fashion doesn't happen in Coronations. It's all tradition and regimented and coded. It's very essential that the designers are all UK etc. The embroidery is all necessary symbols of family, office and country. William's trousers are set by military rules as an fyi. Princess Anne is always impeccable. The PM was wearing the correct full formal gear. There is protocol for that. The ladies should remain 'conservative' and simple. The coronation is completely regimented and choice is extremely restricted. You should know that.
🥱
The coronation outfit notwithstanding, King Charles still IS a fashion icon if you appreciate bespoke English tailoring, which I certainly do.
YES! He has an impeccable style. Perfect tailoring.
@@eve7896 Absolutely! He knows how to wear a double-breasted suit--unfortunately, a lost art. The Wall Street Journal has a lovely pictorial on King Charles' style through the years.
His favourite dress suit, which he wore at Harry and Meghan’s wedding, is 34 years old.
@@eve7896 I didn't know that about Jimmy Choo. Yes, to quality clothes that last a lifetime!
that was NOT the crow from the Queen Mother coronation, it was from Queen Mary of Teck coronation back in 1911
Well he’s not just Diana’s designer he’s also done several gowns for Camilla over the years
That's true also he is a designer that is how he makes a living and some even have contracts with them to do work and it's a royal family things not just one. Some people try to make mountains out of hills
Oh and the “big ruby” in that crown isn’t a ruby at all. It’s a spinel.
Hi Luke - having avoided all things coronation like the veritable plague - I was really interested to see your take on royal garb and enjoyed this thoroughly. It was the royal review I didn't know I wanted. Thanks hun. Greetings from across the pond.
Princess Charlotte was adorable
Queens are crowned NOT coronated.
Many of the dresses in the embroidering needs to represent the 4 countries of the United Kingdom
If a specific designer is classed as "belonging " to a specific person.... the designer won't make money 🤷♀️
Eileen Collins
Especially if their only client died 25 years ago.
_says he's english_
Doesn't know that Camilla's crown is Queen Mary's crown (made 1911) or that the necklace is the coronation necklace that every queen after Victoria (not including) has worn on her coronation.
Very fox news.
one of his parents is british
How could Diana have been there? She’s been dead for 25 years
I think with Penny Mourdant, she had heels on for the ceremony and changed into the black flats after probably because her feet hurt! Which is probably what I would have done.
If the shoes fit properly, wearing heels all day is not a problem.
Penny Mordaunt had to stand for 2-3hrs holding a giant sword. I think we can forgive her for forgoing the heels.
“Windsor pants “ ??. They are wearing their uniform pants from the branches they served in!!
Katy Perry’s suit fit well?? Luke….
Agree! It was a terrible fit!
Luke also said Harry’s suit fit well, but in picks you could see how ill fitting and crumpled it was?
I think that was deliberate pleating or rouching.
It looks three dimensional
Thank you!
@@gnostic268 Bruce Oldfield has also been designing dresses for Queen Camilla for over 10 years. Diana has been dead for 25. A designer is allowed to design for whomever they want.
The king is crowned at the coronation, not coronated.
Take it from this English lady this was the best review ever on the Coronation fashions I loved it!!
Are you being facetious
Princess Anne's Panasonic legs were tapered because she was to mount a horse immediately following the ceremony.
My phone typed "panasonic" when I wrote "pants legs'". Sorry.
We don’t have a title or acronym for the Prime Minister’s spouse. It’s usually just the Spouse of the Prime Minister.
Why would the spouse of an elected official need a title. I know the U.S. has 'the First Lady'. In Europe, presidents' or other elected heads of state's spouses don't get distinctions, I think.
The center stone in the Imperial Crown is a pink spinel, not a ruby.
A crown has jewels on it not jewelry. A big distinction.
He doesn't know the difference?
No hating involved but the big “ruby” is actually a red spinel, originally belonged to the Black Prince and was worn by Henry V on his helmet at Agincourt. One of THE historic royal gems.
King Charles always dress's impeccably. His suits are beautifully tailored and fabulously color coordinated.
Penny Mordaunt wore heels for the actual ceremony
Luke, you are a national treasure and I learn so much from you! (Pronunciation of ermine is "er-min," like mermen.)
I have said it before, but I will say it again you are adorable!
