Agreed strongly with both sentiments! I think the ZT0450 would probably be more popular today if it weren’t at its most hyped when ZT was having all kinds of problems. However, the ability to recognize those problems, stop releasing a lot of knives, and going back to fix the problem was an excellent choice on ZT’s part, and I probably wouldn’t have the knife had they not done it.
I've always wanted a ZT. But they're out of my price range. That just looks like a pocket knife personified! Awesome blade steel S35VN is by far my favorite powder steel even today in 2023. So we rounded. And with the geometry of this blade combined with it being a ZT leads me to believe this is going to be an awesome EDC! Awesome video as always man 👊
Like I said, this is my second favorite ZT, with my favorite being the 0562 because I’m a Hinderer fan and it’s basically a production XM-18. The 0450 I love based almost purely on performance, and the excellent blade steel and combination of a sturdy blade and thinness behind the edge makes it extremely well-rounded. It absolutely is an awesome EDC, and I very much maintain that had ZT not had so many hiccups related to heat treat and lockup in the years almost immediately following the ZT0450’s introduction (basically 2016-early 2019), I think this would have become a classic.
I always loved the lines of these knives. I still have the 0452cf but sold my 0450 because the grip was a little small for me. It's a great knife, and I would have kept it if it fit my hand a little better. I never did have any problems with the heat treat on either knife. Both were excellent! I try to buy American as much as possible but have also bought from American companies that sub out to China. Rosecraft, Ohio River Jack, Jack Wolf just to name a few. And I do have a few 100% Chinese made knives because the value is so high!
Honestly, I don’t think a boycott would be be feasible, and thus, I don’t try. In the two instances where boycotting worked-the Montgomery Bus Boycott and Bud Light-the first worked because it was targeting a service that could not be redirected anywhere since it was provided by a city government (with the majority of people using public transit being the boycotters themselves). In the second case, it worked because the product was subpar and people were buying the name…until they stopped, all the while, the parent company did well because Bud Light’s collapse made room for Modelo, which is another AB InBev beer. If someone tried boycotting Chinese knives, they could simply make more knives more cheaply for other countries. Because I know it won’t make a difference, while seeing American knives succeed is awesome to me, seeing American designers succeed matters even more to me, no matter where their knives are produced.
@@DrBlazer50 Thanks! Marketing/commerce is a big interest of mine and I used to go on about it WAY too long in my vids, though have dialed it back and now reserve it for my comment section!
I have to admit: I love this knife. I’ve been wanting one for a while, but their most hyped point in time ran concurrently to the heat treat and lockup issues. That’s been fixed, but I think if they’d never had those issues, a lot more people would both know about and probably really like this knife.
It's been a long time, but the 0450 might be the my all time most carried knife. I haven't carried one in a couple years, but for about 4 or 5 straight years that was my usual daily carry.
I've always liked Sinkevich's designs. A really beautiful knife.

A fine choice! Great knife and I’m a bit surprised it fell so far behind the 0452 for so long.
