Those rail physics were insane. The amount of area, space, and flow of movement, you don't see that often any more. Motion to get from one rail to another, you have to be ready to go at any second.
Level design genuinely looks good. It's diverse, has different paths, and seems like it requires actual reflexes. This actually seems like these levels might be on the level of Unleashed and Generations
Imo it looks more like what they did on third update of Sonic Frontiers. Not visually, but level design is somewhat similar, but with obvious better visuals than the update. The fact that gameplay is somewhat similar to cyberspace (for some people its a bad sign but for me is a good sign) also makes this look even more similar to me. But is far less linear imo to be like Sonic Unleashed and Generations, imo

This alone is already way less linear than most Unleashed and Generations level design
Iizuka said that they got the original designer for Generations as well as some of the developers who originally worked on the game as well. No wonder this looks heaps and bounds better than Forces/Frontiers cyberspace.

I'm honestly glad that Shadow and his stages seem to feel different than Sonic's (at least from looking at the gameplay). Using Shadow's chaos control in order to make new platforms is honestly a smart gameplay mechanic and if Shadow gets new chaos abilities in his skill tree, they might be able to finally make Shadow feel like his own fully fleshed character (gameplay wise I mean) and not just a clone of Sonic in terms of gameplay
Honestly I wouldn’t be mad if they turned it into a sort of thing where going forward shadow gameplay was “frontiers-like” but with the abilities he has, while sonic gameplay was more similar to unleashed/gens. Obviously we’ll all have to try it out but it would be an interesting way to differentiate Sonic vs shadow gameplay in the future and not just for this game. All depends on how shadow feels to control but was just an idea I had.

Alternate pathways, diverse level layouts, it’s looking pretty good. All I honestly need now is levels using slide, stomp, and more unleashed and gens level gimmicks like the qte cannons, timed pole jump, and I’m officially sold🥹 👍

I know that there are " book tokens " in the shadow level but how many, because I have a theory that they give you an in game version of the book you get by pre ordering the physical release. Which if true means we can do basic maths of, 28 divided by the average amount of tokens = the amount of shadow levels
What I like about the gameplay that was presented, is that there are in-game cutscenes in the Space-Colony and the Biolizard boss fight(well, there a blackscreen for just a few seconds in the Biolizard boss fight but it was an in-game cutscene). 3:49 Take the Space-Colony for example: After going through the Space-Colony section, you enter a cutscene showing Doom's eye, then everything warp into Radical Highway, 4:06 Shadow falling from the abyss and then transitioning back to the gameplay but now your doing the sky-diving portion, and now, your in the Radical Highway section. Unlike Sonic o6(One of my favorite Sonic games), this does not have loading screens to head to the next section of the level. This makes it more cinamatic and keeps you more engaged. [3:49 and 4:06] These parts alone proves that Sonic Team wants to make this game feel like a AAA game. Though not perfect, but a good step in the right direction.

Worth mentioning the original on Steam does have a decade of mod support going for it. There's a chance it will get delisted when this comes out, so it's worth thinking about.
Level design is sweet. Love seeing the levels, especially exploring different paths. Using Shadow's abilities, and working out a level like a puzzle, movjng every piece. Boss batties are sick Totally understand that you had to use songs from past games. But that soundtrack must have been excellent
